Lovely hotel in Kos

Reviewed Aug 26, 2023
Lovely hotel with all you could need for a relaxing holiday. Quite a way out of Kos Town but there is a regular cheap bus service. Two big swimming pools with plenty of sunbeds. Good clean rooms with extra specially comfortable beds. Staff all very friendly and attentive especially Maria and her team in the restaurant who really do a great job. My daughter is gluten free and every night they made sure her specially cooked meal was delivered to her at the table. It really was appreciated and helped her such a lot.. Food on the buffet was really good with plenty of variety and most food was clearly labelled.
The Animation team did a great job in the daytime and worked very hard but the evening entertainment was a bit disappointing.
I feel there should be more varied professional acts in a hotel like the Platanista and not rely on the animation team so much.
Only went to the private beach once as very rocky getting into the sea but they had put sandbags down so you could walk on them until you reached the deeper water
If you are travelling with children dont forget to try the Crazy golf down the hill from the hotel....Great value at 5 euros each for 16 holes !!!

The photos of this hotel don’t do it justice- it’s a very picturesque place. The Platanista is set out over a large well-kept site with two lovely swimming pools, tennis courts, outside entertainment area, mini golf, pool bar and snack bar. It’s a long walk to Kos Town- we walked it but I suggest you catch the bus or taxi as in the heat of the day it is a slog! The hotel’s section of the beach is so peaceful with a beautiful view of Turkey and the most delightful taverna next to it. Unusually there are always sun beds free at the hotel or beach. We rented a car from the hire place next to the hotel which was a competitive price and well worth doing. An area for improvement is the evening entertainment which was poor - generally 45 mins of them trying to get the audience involved. They need to spend money on getting some professional acts in. Overall, a lovely holiday at the Platanista and you won’t be disappointed in choosing this 4 star hotel. Kos is definitely worth visiting- we will return to the island.

I spent a week at the hotel with my teenage daughter at the beginning of August. The hotel is really great, everything is so clean, the grounds are beautiful. All the staff work really hard and are so friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The food was excellent in the restaurant at both breakfast and dinner with a great choice.

The pools are great, both really large and they never felt crowded, one with a swim up bar. There are also plenty of Sun loungers and umbrellas and it was never difficult to get one. The beach which is a 2 minute walk isn’t great but the pools more than make up for it.

We hired bikes a couple of times from outside the hotel and rode into Kos Town which only took around 15 minutes and was really convenient to go wandering round the harbour and old town. We also did the Tui trip to Zia to watch the sunset which was beautiful and it was well worth asking the rep to book a table for dinner, we went to Olympia2 and had a table upstairs on the terrace.

The rooms are newly refurbished, modern and cleaned every day with fresh towels daily. Our maid was great and worked really hard and nothing was too much trouble. There is a kettle in the room and tea and coffee and a small fridge.

The only thing I would change would be for the hotel to perhaps leave one bottle of water in the fridge on arrival. I had read the reviews before I came and knew as we were arriving late at night there wouldn’t be any water so took some with me. I was glad I did as we eventually arrived at 2am and the bar was obviously closed and nowhere to get any water from.

There is a petrol station at the bottom of the road and you can stock up on water for the room from here, cheaper than buying it in the hotel and a supermarket a 15 minute walk away.

We had a great holiday and I would definitely come back and stay at the Platanista again.

Room tip: Take water with you if arriving late at night

The entertainment crew, Robert in particular was brilliant, he made a great effort all the time. All the bar staff Spartak and his team were top drawer and the waiting team in the restaurant did a great job.

The hotel management need to take a look at themselves, the primitive rule of wearing long trousers in the dining area is very poor, inconvenient and unjustified .... a joke!

Room tip: Don't forget your long trousers!!!

Dear Mr. Woodhouse,

Thank you for your time to leave a review online.
We really apologize if you haven t been informed in advance for the long trousers, as is written in all tour Operators and in our website about it.
However, we do mention it upon arrival to all of our guests in order to avoid such complaints.
Is a rule which runs for many years now to our hotel. As it is we need just to respect it and follow it.
Many hotels have such rule.
Thank you for visiting and staying in our Hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed everything about this hotel from our lovely welcome from Stavros on reception to our modern, immaculately clean room with quality linens. The food was of good quality, tasty and there was plenty to choose from. The pool areas were spotless and there was no shortage of beds or umbrellas. We ate in the Taverna several times and found it reasonably priced and a very welcoming modern space. We especially loved the dancing 🐈‍⬛. One thing that stands out especially was the excellent staff - welcoming, friendly and so hard working! Thank you Hotel Platanista we had a brilliant time and hope to return.

We came to Kos for first time for 2 wk holiday, and from the moment we stepped off the bus from the airport it’s been fabulous , the staff made us welcome and have been amazing. We promised ourselves cocktails on arrival and as the bar was still open at midnight we order two from the best bar man ever in Kos ( Dimitri) and by and b we had more that one as the first went on we’ve met (stavros) from reception who escorted us to our room he’s become a good friend and always comes to talk to us nothing is too much trouble for him to sort out. We’ve also met our waiter team from main dinning area Sophia whose alway there with a smile and has been a wealth of info about Kos, then at the pool snack bar we’ve met (Christos) one of the new waiters and the team that run it and they have been amazing giving us the best service we’ve had at any hotel we’ve ever stayed in its definately 5 stars from us, room are very clean well maintained and air on is great in the heat, grounds and pool well maintained and clean and alway fresh , great hotel great staff(amazing really) would highly recommend this hotel for short or long holidays and will be back as soon as I can. One last thing food best food I’ve had at any hotel in all my years of travelling the globe. Not a hotel to miss and the staff are it’s best asset for sure , well done guys xx
