What a wonderful little motel for Cherry Wonderdog! It was up the road from downtown Canandaigua, perhaps a mile or less, far enough, however, to be away from the hustle and bustle, leaving us without concern for things left in the car. I was expecting an old retro hotel from the 60s, great value but lacking modern amenities. I’ve stayed in a few of these before, but Miami Motel is different. Miami is updated, renovated, and commodious. Comfortable king bed, heating and cooling system completely remote, a double shower head, and ample outlets in all the right places to connect appliances and chargers alike. There’s shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even toothbrushes and paste for those (like me) who forget theirs at home.
I also found the husband and wife owners to be sincere, conscientious, reasonable, and smart. They welcomed us with just enough professionalism to give us what we needed to get started and to accommodate our early departure. They didn’t pre-charge anything to our credit card either. Inasmuch as we had a couple of e-bikes in tow, they assigned us an adorable private room with a carport that made us feel incredibly cozy and secure.
One thing that has changed recently (website needs updating) is breakfast – it’s gone, supposedly a result of the pandemic. It’s a little unfortunate, because something quite simple in the office area would help folks start their day more quickly than having to visit a local restaurant. In our case, we planned ahead and brought cereal, milk, instant coffee, and plastic utensils to the room. The little refrigerator and microwave made it possible to fix a simple but satisfying meal without going out. Note that there was a Keurig machine in the room, but no matter how hard I try, I can never get that coffee to taste better than leaf broth.
All in all, Miami Motel was perfect for our two-night stay, and we didn’t spend an arm and a leg by any means. It’s a great value, and you’ll drive away thankful to have supported a nice couple whose friendly business offers travelers an alternative to the typical pricey hotel chains.
