Off the strip but close enough to everythig

Reviewed Feb 12, 2022
We have used this hotel for many visits. It is off the strip but close enough to get there. Hotel offers a shuttle to the strip (may not run often during Covid). It's an older property and the rooms are getting near needing a refresh but they are large and comfortable and affordable. Large casino that really hops from Thursday through the weekend. Movie theaters and bowling alleys are on the property. There is a large arena attached which has many sports and other activities. We love the pool area for lounging under the palms.

We had a great week at the Orleans Hotel. All staff really make you feel welcome. Reception staff do their job check you in and out but not very helpful if you go to them with a problem. Whenever we needed help or information we found bar staff very helpful especially Rick at the alligator bar he was our go to person. We found Reception staff didn't want to deal with any problems
We really love this hotel much better than staying on the strip, but we have a couple of issues. We cannot understand charging resort fee when, pool not open, WiFi only works in bedroom (sometimes) nightmare having to go to room if you are expecting emails or messages, and shuttle bus drop off to far away from everything only used once so really don't know what we are paying for
Enjoyed are stay thanks to great staff

Security bangs aggressively on my hotel room door demanding to come in because I had my do not disturb sign displayed for three consecutive days. This after being told at check in that no room service would be provided unless I asked for it. As I was just getting out of the shower and not fully dressed yet I told them they could not come in, they insisted and said they were coming in anyway. Although the officer was professional the hotel’s poor execution of a legitimate policy provoked and unnecessary confrontation that soured my experience on the last day of my stay at the Orleans. It’s a good thing that security conducts room inspections but when the room is occupied they should be calling the guest to advise that they need to come by, not barging in uninvited as if they were serving a warrant. Completely ruined my first stay at The Orleans.

Room tip: Get ready for security to walk into your locked room literally at any time they want. Parking also a challenge as is persistent smoky smell

...am disappointed that they are not enforcing their mask policy- especially with the Omicron Varient running rampent! Also, too crowded. We were here in Sept & felt very safe, & masks were enforced by the security. But not now. Shouldn't be allowed to smoke in the Casino either, that just spreads it around. All staff is very friendly & prompt as usual, and room is clean- which is good since we're spending more time in it

Rooms are dark and dingy. They charge a resort fee and said there was a safe in the room. Nope! There wasn’t even a place to hang your clothes! The toilet was so small and low! What a joke. We also had the worst food and service at the coffee shop in the morning. It took forever to get waited on, forever to get a drink, and forever to get our food! My friend’s Belgian Waffle was hard as a brick, my potatoes were so bad I couldn’t eat them. I told the cashier and all she could say was gee I’m sorry. Thank goodness Fridays isn’t run by the hotel. We actually had good service and great food!

Room tip: Don’t eat ate the coffee shop

At least many things are not the same as before Covid-19 like they want you to believe. My wife and I flew to Las Vegas Monday Dec 13, 2021 on an afternoon flight and arrived around 4:00 pm. We wanted to get to The Orleans and TGI Friday's during Happy Hour, so when we arrived by Uber, we didn't even bother to check in – just took our bags to TGIF. Sat down at the bar, I ordered Guiness and my wife ordered Stella Artois. The bartender set the beer down and I made a comment about Happy Hour. She said that they didn't have Happy Hour anymore – due to pandemic. We had one more beer and decided to settle the bill. It was $40 - $10 a beer! I decided to go next door and get some beer and wine for the room and there was a sign saying closed on week days – Only open during weekends.
We stayed in room 1920 the first night. Thermostat didn't work and the fan ran steady with no way to shut it off and it sounded like an old dishwasher. The floor lamp turned itself on and off all night long so we changed rooms Tuesday morning.
They had a program one day a week called Young at Heart which was available to all B Connected card holders 50 Years and older. It used to be fun and the more you played that day the more chances you had to win prizes. It is still there with much less valuable prizes and it is now only open to Sapphire members and higher – Not the base tier of Ruby members.
The Orleans Hotel and Casino, a Boyd-owned property that is quite old and off strip, previously had a very reasonable Resort Fee – I remember paying $13 a night. It is now $39.54 for each night there and it's winter and the pool isn't even open.
The Orleans experience has diminished considerably since we were there many times pre-pandemic. Overall, Las Vegas was not much fun for us this time around since many of the activities that we enjoyed doing are not available Monday through Thursday. We flew home Wednesday Dec 15th – our shortest trip ever!

Room tip: DO NOT stay in room 1920!
