Bath, Maine

Great stay and play!

Reviewed Jul 30, 2021
Poland Spring Resort is set on some of the most beautiful grounds you will see! We live in Maine and mostly went for the golf as the course is so beautiful! It is well groomed and offers a challenging game for sure! The room was very dated which I knew going in. That being said it was very comfortable and a good size. It even had a small couch etc. and a mini fridge which we did not discover until the next morning. For fellow travelers there is NO hairdryer in the room and if you are picky about your toiletries bring your own! The inn is old. That is just a fact. The nostalgia on the course and in the hallways etc. is amazing to look at! Hubby and I will return to do another "Stay and Play" as it is a great value. We will stay two nights next time to explore and enjoy the other amenities. When I told my daughter about the place and all the fun things it offered she said it sounded perfect for her little family to try out! Affordable and fun! The pool looked beautiful! The new patio outside the pro shop is gorgeous. There is seating all around the grounds to just sit and admire the views. If you are looking for marble tiles and plush carpet you will want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for an affordable, comfortable place to stay with impeccable service, and enjoy the Maine outdoors this is it! We ate at Mel's for lunch and dinner. Great food and very reasonable prices! Oxford Casino is just 8 miles down the road.

We came for 4 nights for a family reunion and our family of 5 really enjoyed it! There were different activities of interest to different age groups and the grounds are just beautiful. We stayed in a cottage and had a campfire by the fire pit each night and enjoyed the rustic feel of the cottage and the ability to have our own space. Would have liked a bathroom on the first floor but cottage 3 did not have that. Other family members stayed at the main inn and enjoyed that as well. We played pool there and used the game room too which was fun but a trip up three flights of stairs to a hot room. Otherwise it was very fun and relaxing and as they say a "stress free zone"!

Dear amandatG5826UB,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! The cottages really are the perfect place for families to gather as you do have your own space and can still enjoy all the amenities at Poland Spring Resort. If you stay again, maybe request cottage 7, a similar size that does have a 1/2 bath on the first floor. Please visit us again soon!
Sincerely,
Laura

Another great stay at the Maine Inn. Room was as expected (I like the mini-fridge), the breakfast buffet had plenty of options and was tasty, a hot fudge sundae from the front desk snack area was so big I couldn't finish it! and Brenda in the lounge was friendly and accommodating! The three days of sunshine made the trip even better and we enjoyed all the courses in the Trifecta package. All the arrangements were made by the Poland Staff (thanks Sue) and all we had to do was show up and play!!

This August my grandchildren will become the fourth generation of our family to stay at Poland Springs Resort. This is a budget vacation, I don’t want to leave people thinking this is a spa with fancy exercise rooms and an Olympic size pool. There is a modest pool, dirt and paved trails for both walks and bikes, small swing set, kids play room, two museums and a variety of local attractions such as Sebago Lake State Park, Maine Wildlife Park, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village and Carousel Horse Farm, just to name a few. Poland Springs has one goal- to be the #1 most relaxing vacation, and they nail it. There is a lake with boat rentals, an ice cream stand next to a mini golf course, a fabulous porch with rocking chairs and adirondacks. You have two on site restaurant options for lunch and dinner, and you can enjoy the hotel’s breakfast buffet or drive a bit up the road for a regular breakfast restaurant. The Maine Inn has a library and a game room full of board games and puzzles. Sometimes there are movies in the afternoon. Friday nights there is music at the pub. Your small ones can run around without bothering anyone, and your older ones can sit on the porch and admire the incredible view across the golf course. Within an hour radius of Poland Springs Resort you’ll find Freeport, Portland, Augusta, Lewiston, and Brunswick- all lovely shopping destinations with brew pubs and galleries. And of course, there’s the casino. The prices at Poland Springs Resort are probably the real draw- our last stay was a Friday in July ‘21, and our room in the Presidential Inn was $99. People come to Poland Springs Resort and stay for weeks at a time. Obviously!

Room tip: Ask for a room at the Maine Inn, or a more modern room at the Lodge. Dog rooms are at the Lodge.

Dear Huxelfam, I am so excited to hear that in August we will have 4 generations of your family that have stayed at Poland Spring! We love hearing stories like this, and are proud to carry on the tradition of hosting families and having an inn on the property since 1794! Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review as thoughtful as this! See you in August!

We stumbled this place during the Independence Weekend while visiting Portland Maine - massive and peaceful retreat.

We were so pleased to stay here, and learned a bit of history on the popular Poland Spring Bottled water.

The property has a big library, with lots of books, and also a big playroom (mostly for children).

The resort is massive, with a very beautiful Maine State Building (behind the hotel) and Poland Spring Museum (a few minutes drive) within the property. I recommend a visit to the Maine State Building, very nicely done inside. It would have been good to visit the Poland Spring Museum too, but unfortunately it was closed. Nonetheless, we could see the original Spring Water source through the windows. There is also a hiking trail and golf course.

It is definitely a good retreat away from the busy city life - the air is so refreshing here.. worth paying a visit and learn a piece of interesting history. And the price is very reasonable.

Room tip: Visit the Library, Maine State Building and Poland Spring Museum nearby

Dear albertf940,
I am glad to hear you learned a bit of the Poland Spring History during your visit! We have such fascinating history here, even us as staff learn something new all the time! The Maine State Building is 1 of 4 buildings remaining from the 1893 Columbian Exposition, and we are so proud to have it here in Poland Spring Maine. Thank you for taking the time to write a review! Hope to see you again in the future!

Well it was not anything like it was 10 years ago. A lot of money has been put into the place and there have some nice upgrades. But for the price, it is not worth it without meals. The meals brought people together. We used to meet a lot of nice people. We would sit on the porch after breakfast and dinner and talk for awhile.
The upside we had to find places to eat. We learned quickly that Cindys Dockside is all fried foods do fish. I don’t eat either. The prices are very high.
We did venture out and found an Applebee’s. One of the front desk people recommended a great Italian place in Auburn. There is also a casino and a Walmart not too far away. So all was not lost. The whether was not good last week so we were somewhat restricted but we made the best of it.
The need some good marketing advice to keep the place running.
There was no service. The room was not vacuumed, straightened or the bathroom cleaned in five days.I guess because of covid. I think all in all it is best for golfers.

Room tip: There are no elevators so first floor was good for us. However we could hear people walking around over us.

Dear twodwright,
I"m glad that you noticed we have done quite a few upgrades and renovations to the various hotels and cottages as well as restaurants on the property over the last decade! Due to COVID last year, we weren't able to offer the buffet meals and we weren't sure what was going to happen this year and that is why we held off on serving buffet dinners this year. We did however lower the rates to reflect the lack of buffet meals being offered. We too, miss the camaraderie of everyone meeting new friends, and returning to see those friends year after year. We are not offering daily housekeeping this season, again due to COVID to help protect both you as the guest and our staff. This is noted on the welcome notes you are given at checkin, as well as the front desk staff is alerting everyone when they make a reservation and when you check in. You are able to get clean linen at the front desk daily. Thank you for taking the time to write a review! Hope to see you again in the future!
Sincerely,
Laura
