I stayed at the above Days Inn to attend my grandson’s graduation from Navy Boot Camp. The location is excellent being less than a mile from the Great Lakes base. The location is the best thing about this hotel. I arrived on the 23rd of November, around the 2000-time frame. During my trip from Florida to Great Lakes, my wife informed me that the hotel had already billed my credit card for the full amount of the charges. This, in itself, is very unusual. Upon arrival I asked the desk clerk about the full amount billing, and he stated this was normal for Days Inn. Having stayed at several very nice Days Inn across the United States, I had never been billed for the full amount in advance of my stay. I was also requested to provide a $50-dollar Incidental fee. I asked what this was for and was told it would be used in case there was anything wrong with the room when I departed. So, the hotel now had $558.16 of my money before I even set foot in the room. My wife spoke with a front desk clerk, Jay, on 3 occasions (by telephone.) I also had booked a room with two double beds as my grandson was going to stay with me during his time off. I was told all double beds rooms had been given out because I arrived so late mine was given to another customer. I think it is important to note I arrived by 8:00 pm. My room was to say the least a mess. The entry area had a large gap between the wood flooring entry way and the carpeted area you sleep in. (I have pictures if you want to insert them.) I stepped into the bathroom and found the caulking in the tub was discolored and the drain to be missing the stopper (I have a picture of the missing stopper) so if I wanted to soak in a nice hot tub of water, it would have been impossible. The water pressure was very poor, and the shower head sprayed all over instead of a direct stream as one might expect. Called the front desk to ask about another room, but no one answered. I turned the heat on in the room but found the unit did not work. I found the unit had been unplugged, after plugging it in, the unit came on but only provided cool air. So, I turned it back off. Climbed into bed, which was not comfortable. The mattress was very hard and the pillows were flat. After trying to utilize the only two in the room, I could not find a comfortable position. The next morning, I awoke to plenty of noise in the hallway, and a very cold shower. Even after trying to move the faucet to the hottest point on the dial. I went down for breakfast and found the dining area so crowded people were actually sitting out in the lobby eating. So, I skipped breakfast. When I returned that evening, I found cockroaches crawling through and around the sink basin area. (I have pictures of the roaches) I also found spiders crawling around the dresser area. Upon closer inspection, I was looking at the desk light and found that the lamp shade had rust all around the inside of the shade, which is unusual, unless of course the shade had been wet, to which the rust would confirm this hypothesis. (I have pictures of the shade) The next two days were much of the same. There was no housekeeping to speak of. No one entered my room, the trash was left in the wastebasket, the room was not vacuumed, and the dirty towels lay in the same pile I had left them in by the sink. To say the least, this Days Inn was and seems to be run with no concern for the customer’s comfort. I spoke to a couple of people, and they conveyed the same sort of problems in their rooms as I experienced. I have pictures of all the bugs/filth, etc which have been sent to Corporate HQ, not that they probably care.
