Review of Inn Exile
Reviewed Jul 5, 2016
While Inn Exile was in a decaying slump under prior ownership, the owners of All Worlds took it over a couple of years ago, and have done a terrific job of transforming the property. Inn Exile, with its 3 pools and additional wading pool, has always been an expansive, beautiful property. Now, under All Worlds' ownership, the rooms have been cleaned up to perfection and upgraded with 21st century amenities. Finally, there are electronic safes, upgraded HDTV screens and cable system, well-functioning wifi, and clean, clean, clean rooms and grounds. Even when All Worlds first took over, it seemed to relegate its more surly staff to the Inn Exile property. But, now, the staff is - for the most part - fully engaged, and, dare I say, friendly. I had one dispute over a room charge that I disagreed with the staff about. And, while I still disagree with them, I was impressed by the fact that one of the desk people took the time to look into the matter further, and later approach me about his interpretation (which, again though, I think was wrong).

The biggest problem with Inn Exile is that it tends to be the little brother of the All Worlds property. So, most of the daytime, and all of the nighttime, activity takes place at All Worlds. I actually prefer this in the daytime since, during the day, Inn Exile is a quieter, relaxed environment with plenty of pool space and lounge chair availability. At night, though, Inn Exile seems almost desolate, even on Memorial Day weekend, when it was full. Now that the Inn Exile "Maze" has been shut down, if you're staying at Inn Exile, you pretty much have to go over to All Worlds to mingle with other guests at night. It doesn't quite make sense since Inn Exile itself is a pretty big property. But, even on Memorial Day weekend when both places appeared to be full, Inn Exile remained desolate at night. I'm not sure how to get around this dilemma but there is some not entirely convincing talk about restoring the Maze. But, maybe, people just have to discover how great a job was done in transforming the Inn Exile property. Which is why I am writing this review.

Inn Exile seems to be a little pricey. But, at least the room I was in, and the couple of others I saw, are in far better condition than those at All Worlds.

So, but for a few reservations, I highly recommend Inn Exile. (I notice a couple of reviews state that a sign posted at Inn Exile encouraged guests to post Trip Advisor reviews for a discount on their next stay. I noticed no such sign, and offer this recommendation free of any compromising economic bias. Ha.)

The helpful and responsive staff are the strongest aspects. My shower had a defective shower head and the room safe wasn't attached to the wall, and when I mentioned it to a passing staff member, they immediately arranged to have the items fixed promptly. The swimming pools were sparkling clean and overall housekeeping was good. My room (704) was spacious but Spartan -- a comfortable king-size bed and rustic end tables, a credenza, small table, and a couple of chairs. (One couple who were staying for two weeks said their room lacked a table and chairs, and the staff brought those in upon request presumably from someone else's room.) No wall artwork, no rug on the stone tile floor. The small bathroom was clean and had a shower stall (no tub) and minimal toiletries - shampoo, lotion and one small bar of soap. There was a small fridge but no microwave or coffee maker, and the breakfast room which has those appliances is kept locked except for a couple of hours on Saturday and Sunday morning ("breakfast" on those days is coffee and cellophane-wrapped sugary pastries).

There are three nicely maintained and heated swimming pools plus a hot tub and a long shallow wading pool. Most activity was around the pool near the 800 and 900 series rooms. Piped-in music in the pool areas is kept at a pleasant, low volume.

This is a men's "clothing optional" resort, and a major attraction is the large Maze area, which was advertised as re-opening after remodeling in Spring, 2016. But when I visited in mid-May it was closed and looked like an abandoned demolition site. Guests have access to the sister property across the street -- All Worlds Resort -- which is busier and has more amenities. That said, some guests who had gone there said that Inn Exile was cleaner and more enjoyable as a retreat from the wild bathhouse type atmosphere at All Worlds. Also, due to day passes sold to the general public, one should be mindful of keeping valuables secured.

For a similar price, there are more comfortable and attractive neighboring properties in the Warm Sands neighborhood. But for a brief stay, especially if one's objective is to hook up with a "mister right now," Inn Exile is a satisfactory choice.

I'd toured Inn Exile many years ago but had not stayed here before the property is owned and managed by All Worlds now (where I have stayed many times) so you can use all facilities at both properties. We booked a 2 bedroom was really a 1 bedroom apartment with the living room set up at a bedroom very spacious. Room was clean and most updated floors tiled beds comfortable with clean white linens. Bathroom is updated except for the tube/shower which was not very nice but was clean and functioned well.

The grounds are very hard with lots of concrete making it on the hotter side midday seemed to be a shortage of pool furniture but didn't have a problem fining an empty one just looked sparse. The Maze is not currently open they are doing some sort of building project so not sure when or if the Maze with return.

Staff was great checking was efficient all be it long because they make a copy of everyone's ID as part of the process.

We enjoyed our stay overall yes it is not a 5 star resort but your are also not paying for that level of service, if that is what you want stay at a 5 star resort and pay the higher amount you can always get a day pass any enjoy with Inn Exile/All Worlds has to offer.

Ok, so the hotel sucks. Rooms are not nice, staff is not knowledgeable and need retraining and the property is mediocre. BUT it's a pretty cool place to be naked and get some sun. The pools are decent and there is plenty of open space to lay out. They also give you free access to all worlds (their original property a 20 second walk away), which has more a sex positive environment (which is a lot of fun). Inn Exile used to have an amazing maze with slings and many areas, but apparently it's been shut down. I would highly suggest going here on a holiday or 'busy' weekend, that's when it's most enjoyable. Mid week you will find the property almost empty and a much older crowd. Literally, it's hit or miss with the clientele. (FYI- This is a GAY clothing optional hotel. No kids or women)

Room tip: just go with the best rate....

We decided at the last minute to take a little weekend getaway for Easter weekend. The place up the street from Inn Exhile that we usually stay was fully booked so rather than not come to PS at all, we decided to give IE a try. Won't make that mistake again. We should give it 1 star but give it a two for a couple reasons. See below for all the details.....

We called Friday morning and were told that they were almost completely full for the weekend and that we were limited to a "king suite" room. We said fine and went with it. When we arrived the man at the front desk was very pleasant and politely showed us to our room. Suite? I think not. Putting a mini fridge in a tiny hotel room does not make it a suite. At least it felt clean so we dealt with it. As the first afternoon went things were fine and there was really nothing notable to complain about. Then the first evening rolled around. First of all, the resort was a ghost town. The first night we were one of only 5 or 6 rooms we could see occupied. We know because we walked around the entire resort a couple of times and saw that there was nobody in most of the rooms. The crowd did pick up slightly on Saturday night but certainly not oversold with one room option kinda full. After my partner and I were sitting at the hot tub for a bit, I went to the front desk and asked the guy for two fresh towels. He didn't seem to be thrilled that I was asking for that, but he gave them to me anyway. About an hour later after a bit more time in and out of the hot tub, I went back and asked to exchange towels again. This time the guy at the desk was so unprofessional. He told me "we don't have a lot of towels and I'm not going to swap them 4 or 5 times for you tonight." I was shocked! First of all, you're a hotel. Second of all, you're empty. Give me all the damn towels I want if necessary. Either way, we were almost done for the night so it wasn't a big deal after that. It was just incredible unprofessional and inappropriate how he spoke to me, both in words and tone. The next day I brought the issue up to the nice guy at the front desk that initially checked us in and he was apologetic and assured me it wouldn't happen again. That night we went to swap towels and luckily there were no issues. Sunday morning was our last morning at the resort before an afternoon flight home. My partner and I were sitting around the hot tub enjoying some coffee and conversation from about 7am-9am. We sat there to witness a revolving door of drug activity in 2 of the rooms near the pool. The customers, the dealer, the decor, the runner.....it was just as tacky and obvious as it looks on TV. I was horrified and shocked that with the amount of cameras it appeared that they had around the resort, that nobody was taking notice of this drug activity. That was the final straw that assured me that we would NEVER return to this resort. At that point we were over the place, went to have some breakfast and then came back to pack and leave. The final tacky and unprofessional thing that happened was at checkout. Checkout time was 11:00am. At the strike of 11, housekeeping was knocking on our door. I opened the door and told him that we were getting ready to leave and would be out in 2 minutes. The employee walked into the room as we were gathering our belongings and starts looking around doing an inventory of the room while we are still in there. Checking the closet for the robes, looking at the pile of towels in the bathroom and making us feel like hotel trash. I travel for a living and at times have spent 200+ nights a year away from home in a hotel. I have NEVER had someone from housekeeping come in and behave in such an unprofessional manner.

In closing, again.....we really could give this a 1 STAR review. I very hesitantly gave it a two ONLY for two reasons.....most of the staff was friendly and the room itself was clean. I will never return and don't recommend this place at all. If you are looking for a hotel that is more of a drug infested bathhouse with round the clock accommodations, this is great for you. If you would like something more laid back, professional, classy and comfortable, please look elsewhere.

I recently stayed at Inn Exile for the better part of a week. I found the property to be well maintained, clean and quite peaceful. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The room, 801 in my case, was clean, well appointed and spacious. I was a bit disappointed to find out The Maze is closed, but I had a good time regardless. I would definitely stay there again.

Room tip: They all seemed quite nice. Parking can be an issue on weekends.
