Amazing vacation on Rhodes - Expectations exceeded by far

Reviewed Jul 14, 2023
We had never been to Greece before and wanted to spend our first holiday as a couple on the beach. After a lot of back and forth about which island to go to, we chose Rhodes! From the first minute we had the feeling of being warmly welcomed by everyone in the whole hotel. After a somewhat tiring flight due to delays, we arrived in the evening and were greeted with champagne and a short golf cart ride to our rooms. A bottle of wine was also already waiting for us in the room!

The grounds of the hotel are absolutely magnificent and the service all the better. The hotel has its own app that allows you to order drinks to the pool or beach 24/7. The service itself has a high standard and you constantly feel like you are going out for a fancy meal. Particular mention should be made of our two regular waiters, Pari and Manos, who served us almost every evening and were incredibly welcoming. Their service was also very professional and they made sure that no wish remained unfulfilled for us. We enjoyed coming every evening and the small conversations about everything possible were great.

Besides the great service and the hotel itself, our second big highlight was definitely the great beach area and the wonderfully clear water, in which you can dive wonderfully. Every morning, the hotel employee on the beach Lukas Fakas greeted us with his unbelievably casual way of approaching everyone. After obligingly explaining which destinations on the island could be visited from the beach, he often invited us for a little chat at his hut and we spent an hour or two philosophising with him about the country and the people. Lukas always hands out towels, all kinds of toys or optionally bathing accessories, so that no wish remains unfulfilled. Lukas can be described as an incredibly nice person who has a warm and cordial nature, who gets along with every guest and welcomes everyone like an old friend! Through him, we also became aware of our two absolute highlights of our holiday - the boat tour with Captain Vasili to all kinds of bays and beaches on the east coast of the island and the neighbouring boat rental company, where we got a small discount through Lukas. On the first days, no boat tours were possible due to the wind, but then on Wednesday we were able to get a place on board through Lukas' mediation - a tour that we can only warmly recommend to everyone!

After the trip with Captain Vasili, we rented a motorboat ourselves the next day, which we used for a 3-hour trip to the most beautiful beaches of the previous day, where there were really crystal-clear waters that can otherwise only be found in the Caribbean. So if you come to Rhodes and especially to the Atrium Hotel, be sure to ask for Lukas.

The food in the hotel has a different theme every day, so there is never a dull moment. The buffet is well organised, there is live cooking and the choice is huge! We didn't even manage to try everything in 7 days. The other restaurants in the hotel also made a great impression - the lobster night on Wednesday is really spectacular and luxurious and if you want to be really pampered, this is the place to be. Also the personal at the bars of the Hotel were incredible friendly and provided a good service all the time!

Beyond the hotel, we can only recommend a trip by boat or car to Rhodes and Lindos to see the sights there. Especially in the late hours of midday, Lindos is not too crowded and the heat in the alleys is not too scorching - unlike on top of the Acropolis. A stop in one of the many tavernas is worthwhile here. We went to Stefanos - a strong recommendation here too!

There are only a few things that could be improved. The room we had was clean and very nice, but not top modern, if that is what you are looking for. They have a nice traditional design and are cosy - only the shower tray seems a bit out of date. It was a bit too small for our taste, a normal modern shower would have been nicer! But if you look at it in relation to the overall experience, it's probably almost nitpicking.

All in all, it was an unbelievably luxurious and relaxed holiday, where you never got bored and could really relax.

Room Tip: - Go to Lobsternight - Ask for Lukas if you need help with anything - be sure to book the boat...

The Atruim Palice is a stunning Hotel and immaculate grounds. This beautiful Establishment is deserving of 5*. From customer service, attention to detail and cleanliness, nothing was to much trouble. The only downside was the location, just a tiny bit remote for me. However there are some lovely local taverners which offer lovely local Greek dishes. In particular Milos, which is run be a very friendly family. The pretty shingle beach was a blessing, and slightly cooler then sitting around the pool. All drinks and bar food can be ordered directly from the Hotel app, meaning you dont have to move if you don't want too.
The entertainment for us was a little hit and miss, but entirely a personal thing. There is a local bus which can be found roughly five mins from the hotell, however don't expect it to be on time. I personally think if you want to see Rhodes then a method of tranport is a absolute must. Overall a lovely Hotel, and highly recommended. (Just be sightly weary of the hotel jewellery store 🤔

Room tip: You can use the hotesl beach towels. They are unlimited and brought down to the beach and pool bar a few times a day.

Myself and my partner got a really good offer (£1100 as opposed to 4K from TUI and others) after shopping around to explore Atrium Palace near Kalathos pebble beach in Rhodes. Location is isolated but easy transport to get you to where you want to go so we didn't mind that, especially we're not the night owl type of people.

Our main downfalls aren't actually with the hotel itself and more with the agent. But it's good to start with negatives:
As with most reviews I've seen, the buffet is a bit bland, no seasoning and cold, however my partner loved it so I wasn't too bothered. Different themed nights, our favourite being the Asian night. They do have entrees available, but they were brought out within 2 minutes and stone cold. But a quick switch to buffet was fine for me. Complimentary :)
Second was no lifeguard which was quite shocking to see. Again we weren't bothered by this as we're in our early twenties and strong swimmers. It's also not too deep but a warning for families with children.
The entertainment I did get bored off very quickly. However, Encore the rock band (Wow 🤩) , a south African trio, and the footloose dance show, bloody ace!! I also think there could be more activities such as pool sports like water polo, and other night time activities like quiz and karaoke. Makes it more fun for families and couples like us.
I really think there needs to be a smoking area in the main area. Balconies, I'm not bothered about. But for the kids health especially, I don't want to be breathing in smoke the sun bed or the table next to us 😷

Now for positives and there are a lot of them. I love the layout of the resort, it's very clean and tidy and whereas people say it's dated, you have to remember it's styled as ancient history, and for that, it's spot on!
The spa experience we had was just lush. This was something completely different for us as we've never had something like this before, and the therapists were amazing and the real deal. My partner went for relaxed and I wanted a more medium pressure which took a lot of knots out of me.
And I have to say, a lot of people went out of their way for our stay. A really young waitress with a nose piercing was lovely and a young middle aged blonde lady was also great in looking after us for breakfast. Beatrice!! Wow, great service at the bar, very lovely to chat to. And I cannot forget the butler and PR manager for being very welcoming and giving us a tour when we checked it rather late. Sorry I can't remember their names.

Oh and my partner loved the cats... Many many cats.

Overall, I do recommend giving it a go here if you're adventurous like us because as a base it was superb. I can't say it's 5 star. 4 star for the hotel but the service is an easy 10/10, despite the slight human mistake here and there and laugh it off. However just based on location and wanting to explore more I wouldn't return to this one, but maybe Platinum or Prestige?

We have stayed in many 5 star hotels, but this one is probably the best. The food is absolutely exceptional in the main restaurant and the à la cart restaurants. We visited them all several times and the food and service were first class. Our favourites were the Italian and Zen.
The hotel is beautifully kept and spotlessly clean. All of the staff, bar none, are cheerful friendly and exceptionally helpful. We made a couple requests from housekeeping which were carried out instantly.
We booked a junior suite which consisted of 2 large bedrooms both with large comfortable beds and smart televisions, a well stocked mini bar and decent bathroom. Only one wardrobe which was a shame.
The sunbeds are plentiful and there is no getting up at the crack of dawn to reserve them. It just doesn’t happen here. Each umbrella has a number and you use an app to order drinks and food.
The manager and PR Manager are always visible and checking that everything is satisfactory. What a great hotel.

Special mention must go to the following: Alexandros Dimitris and all the staff in the Italian/Greek restaurant, especially Sara who is pure sunshine. Stratos Lideana and Stefanos in the pool bar. Valentina and Theodoris (the omelette man) in the main restaurant. Thank you all very much for all your hard work.

Exceptional hotel and facilities. Staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Good gym and pools to choose from. Vast selection of food from the buffet and a la cart menus. Restaurant staff are amazing and Savvas Papantoniou made our stay extra special. Nice touch a breakfast you can order from a selection of coffees.

Room tip: Visit Lindos, Rhodes old and new towns and Marmaris - thoroughly recommend all.

So lovely hotel. We had great holiday at the Atrium palace. Staff was very friendly, especially Lucas at the beach (always high fives for kids :) )

Hotel pool was amazing and the beach was lovely. Best hotel beds I´ve ever slept. Breakfast was great.

From hotel there is easy to go everywhere in Rhodes by local bus. To Lindos it takes only about 15min and there also some great restaurants at the Kalathos.

The best holiday in a awesome hotel :)
