We have been staying at this hotel since the first year it opened, there have always been minor issues with the rooms which we have always chosen to ignore as we liked the location of the hotel and the fact that its on the river which lets us dock our jet skis in the water, in the process we had gotten to know the owner of the hotel Richard fairly well, But this last weekend we had the most horrible experience of all.We rented two rooms from them a two bedroom family suite for 6 adults and 2 kids and another one bedroom suite for 2 adults and two kids, in total we were a family of 12 and i had my daughter of 6 year old as an addition which when we booked with them they didn't mind and said its okay because the rooms are large enough and can handle one additional 6 year old, The problem started when Richards wife came to confront me in the parking lot because we were all on the beach taking turns on the jet skis, and said we had too many people on the property for which i explained to her we had a combined family and we had booked two rooms, but we had also invited my mother in law and my brother in law later that evening to have dinner with us on the beach which got me worried so when i informed her about that , her immediate response was ' Do you know who i am, i am the owner of this place and you cant have any guests on the property' at this point i knew by her tone that she was only interested in flaunting her position so i asked her calmly to speak with my husband.
First of all i have never came across a hotel that doesn't let you invite guests during the day in the lobby or common areas in this case a beach during the day time. We didn't drink , smoke or even played music while we were at their hotel, so i have no idea why it bothered her so much and the only thing i can think of and felt was racism written all over it.
Her words were you cant have dinner or even be on the property unless you have booked a room and we have a last minute cancellation and a room has just become available , since my MIL and BIL were already on their way it would have been embarrassing to turn them around so we took interest in the room that was available for which she said there was a little issue with the room but she would rent it to us but for the full price which was another $300 a night. We absolutely didn't find it fair that she was taking advantage of the situation that she was creating for us considering we were repeat customers and have never had this particular issue with them.
The next day we went above and beyond to leave the room as clean as possible checked out on time and even went as far as emptying all the trash cans and dumping the garbage in the dumpster ourselves even after the fact that when we checked in the room the fridge had left over food from the previous guests, the phone had some kind of syrup all over it, the living room TV didn't work.
In the end they ended up charging us $1100 for the two rooms that we had booked for one night and our deposit of $800 between the two rooms so the one night stay at this hotel ended up costing us $1900, we have had a hard time getting in contact with this hotel since then about why they haven't refunded our deposit yet.
Make sure you are very careful in giving them a deposit because they will find a way to keep it by hook or by crook.
I hope Richard reads this review and contacts us because i am definitely taking them to court for my deposit.
i also own a business and as an owner i go above and beyond to serve my customers because as a owner it gives me the ability to do so instead of walking around trying to rip people off and making them feel uncomfortable. We took our kids there to unwind and relax but the owners wife made it impossible for us to do so.
Cha who worked at the front desk was the only person that was polite and reasonable but obviously i am sure her hands were tied in this matter.
