We're posting this late, as time has gotten away from us! However, we have NOT forgotten how incredible this trip was. This was our first time visiting Tahiti/Moorea and we didn't have a clue as to where to stay. My husband wanted a good surf break and I wanted a beautiful beach with clear water. We didn't want the touristy, expensive, resort experience. We were looking for something more remote. That being said, we booked a car rental, our first 2 nights at Fare D'Hote Tehuarupe Hotel, and the remainder of our trip at a place near the Sofitel beach (supposedly the best beach on the island?-not to us). As it turns out, we did not want to leave Fare D'Hote Tehuarupe. We hesitantly checked out and ventured to our next spot-immediately upon our arrival we knew it was not the place for us. The location, as well as the accommodations (and extremely rude owner) were not at all what had been portrayed online. We decided to lose the money on our booking there and return to Tehuarupe Hotel. To us, this was a 'once in a lifetime" trip and although, we couldn't afford to lose the money, the experience, what suited us, and our memories, were far more important! That being said- we returned to Tehuarupe Hotel and stayed the rest of our trip (thankfully they still had our bungalow available:). We were so happy to return and wished we could have stayed permanently! The owners, Elda and Charlie, were so sweet and accommodating...and we loved their weiner dogs. It felt very comfortable and homey to us...The bungalows were beautiful, clean and with kitchens-which came in handy and allowed us to shop at the market and make our own meals. The access to the ocean is a short walk across the road-which didn't bother us in the least. We used the kayaks every day to cruise around and snorkel, fish, and paddle out to the surf break. I can't say enough positive things about our experience there...Tahiti had been a long-time dream of ours and we won't forget it. Now we just need to figure out how we can go back!
