I spent 7 days, last week of July, at the Fare Teruahupe at Haapiti on Moorea and it was truly great. It is on the really quiet side of Moorea only 20 minutes drive from the ferry terminal. Elda and her husband were really nice and I felt welcome immediately. Elda brought me a bottle of water and there was a bottle of wine for me in the fridge also. She enquired if I needed anything and gave me tips about local snacks or places to go.
There are two pairs of pretty bungalows; one is literally by the pool but mine was just 10 meters away so they are all identical. The infinite pool looking over the lagoon is really sweet especially to contemplate the sunsets or just read a book quietly in the late afternoon.
There are two local grocery shops at a 4 minutes walk in each direction so you can buy really basic things. There are bikes to borrow if you want to use them but my favorite was just taking the canoes and going snorkeling by the reef in the lagoon just facing the Fare across the road. There is a true big supermarket near the Ferry terminal if you need to buy more things.
Room is large and confortable with a bar/kitchenette with all the necessary appliances to cook (there is even a microwave) although you have food trucks near by at night and a couple of tahitian snacks that serve simple good local fish. One large bed and one couch that can be used as a second bed so I would guess you could squeeze in 4 people. Clean bathroom. Nice balcony with a view of the lagoon and a table to chill there too. Mosquitoes are not a big concern at this time of the year and the weather was good with one day of rain (the last day). No need for alarm clocks the local poultry will take care of that for you.
If you want to relax far from the chaos of “civilized life” this is the place where to go. Moorea is really small so from there it is easy to go around the island for hiking or snorkeling at other beaches like Temae or Les Tipaniers. I recommend renting a car of course. It was perfect and really relaxing and quiet. Exactly what I needed.
I will come back.
Thanks Elda.
