We just came back from our stay in Montezuma. We took a quick 30 min Sansa flight to Tambor and got a $40 ride to Montezuma (arranged by our hotel).
We stayed at the Amor de Mar resort right on the water. This is a very understated, multi-generationally owned boutique resort that blew our breaths away when we walked in. The entire staff was attentive and amazing our whole stay. The grounds are impeccable. The views simply breathtaking. The on-site restaurant serves a delicious breakfast (not included, but billed to your room.) Honestly, their website does them no justice.
The resort sits just outside of town, directly across from the entrance to Montezuma Falls. It’s an easy walk to the quaint small town center that is Montezuma. We visited a variety of restaurants, bars, shops, and took many trips to the grocery store to stock up on alcohol, snacks, and other necessities.
While there we took a surfing lesson with Surf School by the Wave (arranged by the hotel) for $65/person. Hiked to Montezuma Falls (free) which I would classify as moderate difficulty (because I am not a hiker) and spent some time swimming in the cool waters. Our last day there the manager suggested we take a ride to Cálala restaurant in Cabuya where we spent the day lounging by the beach, swimming in the pool, and eating and drinking to our hearts content. It was a perfect last day.
We were in Montezuma for a friend’s wedding. Corina, the manager of the resort, perfectly planned my friend’s wedding. Everything went off without a hitch. My friend could not have asked for a better wedding day (week).
I cannot speak highly enough about Amor de Mar, their entire staff, the people and town of Montezuma, and our entire vacation overall. It was a solid 10/10.
