Nice place but could be better

Reviewed Dec 6, 2022
The property is less than 10' walk from West End Bay. We switched to this facility after checking in the sister hotel Arco Iris and found out that it did not have AC in our 2-bedroomm unit.

Our room was spacious with one queen and one single bed. It also has a kitchen with fridge and stove. We thought we could do with ceiling fans but ended up getting AC ($15/d). The deck/balcony has an unobstructed view of the bay, and we spent every morning watching the sunrise. Breakfast was included but limited and it got old after 9 days. Of course, we could have ordered something else, but we have to pay for them.
The receptionist (Shelby?) was very helpful when she and a helper rolled up the plastic screen that blocked our view from the deck.

The place could be a 5-star with some improvements:
1. We spent 9 nights with $1.3k for 2 rooms and still have to p\ay for potable water. The others in my group stayed at less expensive places in the center all got free potable water.
2. The rooms should have couple chairs with table for sitting and working.
3, Some upgrades are needed such as kitchen counter has water damage,
4. It's probably better to have allowance amount for breakfast and guests can pay extra if the order costs more than the allowance. This allows them to explore other dishes.
5. The internet is terribly slow, but I think this applies to the whole Roatan.

Posada Las Orquideas is a great little hotel on the very north end of West End. The rooms are quiet, clean, and very comfortable. Each one has a balcony with a hammock and table and chairs. There are small kitchens that are pretty well appointed along with a small fridge. The AC works well. It is the perfect place.

Room tip: Get a room with a kitchen

We had a lovely stay at this quiet and beautiful spot. We had a 3rd floor room and I would have asked for one if hadn’t been assigned because the views were better and we caught a breeze on the balcony. The balcony was essential for drying dive and swim gear too. There were no hooks or shelves to store anything, but the tiny kitchen was nice equipped. The ceiling fan in our room clattered but that was the only flaw (well, that and the hammock that needed a little help to not tip us out sideways :) ) Hot tip! - at end of may/June we needed the AC - it’s worth the extra $15. The cafe downstairs was yummy when it was open. The staff were friendly and helpful; they even arranged our taxi to the ferry. There’s a lovely seating area down on the dock, which is a nice pace to watch sunset and cool off if the wind is blowing. The walk into town was easy and not far at all. And you really can’t beat lazing about in a hammock listening to the ocean, especially when there’s a breeze.

Room tip: Recommend getting the AC…we needed it!

Lovely simple place with excellent breakfast in charming cafe. Staff was super friendly and made us feel at home. About 10 minute stroll to Halfmoon Bay and in really quiet, peaceful area with green, green surroundings.

Room tip: third floor has the best views of the bay. Other floors have views through the rather thick vegetation. has views

We were originally booked at Posada Arco Iris, on the "strip" in West End. We wound up moving here after a single night at Arco Iris due to the noise, the partying and loud music until 2:15 am, as well as the barking dogs. What a relief....the room is nicer and at least provides you with a place to hang things and a small shelf in the bathroom and shower. This place is very clean and quiet and tucked away from the hubub of the main strip of West End. We were on the third floor with a large balcony with a hammock and plenty of space to dry our wet stuff after diving. The view was pretty, overlooking a small cove and looking out east to the ocean. Nice breezes and very relaxing! Love the cafe and yummy breakfasts! We indulged in the Carrot Cake for dessert last night....it was delicious as was the Vegan Banana Muffin! Only drawback here is that the paved road ends about 100 yards from here and when it rains, you have to try to navigate your way through the mud and water to walk to the strip for eateries, etc. But, it really is convenient to Jackson's Dive shop and Moana Divers, only about a 5-7 minute walk. Oh! Be prepared to pay $4.00 for a gallon jug of water, and there is no dispenser, so, your best bet is to perch it on a chair and carefully pour it into a glass. The room did include a small fridge.

I was just evacuated from my Honduran mission. I was in Trujillo and had a private flight to Roatan on Saturday, and a United flight on Sunday.
Posada Las Orquideas was recommended to me by a fellow volunteer who stayed at the property and said it was amazing. I emailed and received a very pleasant prompt response Karolina. She efficiently answered all my questions, reserved a car to pick me up at the airport with a sign, and held a room for me. I was so excited to stay there. Then United put me on a Saturday flight with my other volunteers, so I had to cancel. Karolina processed my cancellation with uncommon kindness. Kudos for the best service I have experienced with any hotel anywhere. Thank you!
