It did the job but we didn’t love it

The Metropolitan is a go-to hotel for mid-range travellers. We had travelled Israel on a reasonable budget and found many places to be fine. The Metropolitan was the most expensive hotel we stayed in for the whole trip and this did not include breakfast – a staggering 75 shekels per person. So, a bit too expensive, but this is Tel Aviv.
The location is great – a short walk from the beach and right in the shopping district.
We had two rooms (one for children) and they helpfully arranged for these to be adjacent with connecting doors. The bathroom functioned well other than the shower leaking water all over the floor. Beds comfortable with good pillows and other linen. Coffee, kettle, fridge, safe etc. The place did not seem beautifully clean (black stains round the air con grille). Lobby area was pleasant with charging point for phones. Nice swimming pool on the roof.
Staff were friendly enough (Ronit on reception absolutely great). One of the “security” spent the whole day on his phone and served very little purpose; staff constantly using the customer lift which slowed everything down, even though there is a separate staff lift, including a guy with a massive open pot of paint.
One other thing I found annoying was a constant stream of e-mails before we arrived asking for documents (hard to use) and payment (the deal was pay on arrival).
So all-in-all, over-priced (as is everything in Tel Aviv), comfortable and convenient but needs a but of a tidy up.

The overall ambience of the hotel was ok, but the front desk employees were absolutely rude. We requested water and they refused to give us any. They were also rude to several other people who were staying in the hotel

The restaurant ran out of food on the second morning due to a large party who breakfasted early.

I asked for room service, specifically for clean towels. This did not happen which meant I had to go searching for clean towels from the cleaning staff.

I asked for an additional 30 minutes on the check-out time, which was declined.

There is no coffee machine in the reception area for guests, unlike most Israeli hotels.

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the past 20 years, but never again.

hotel staff are not prepared to treat their guests well. They don't even know how to suggest a nearby restaurant. They and don't care about customer satisfaction. Restaurant waiters are impatient. It has the worst and most expensive food and refused to pack for travel when I’ve asked for

If you stay at the hotel, make sure to ask for Adrian Nachemia and Dana.
Adrian was the best! Always helpful, greeted us with a smile and made sure our stay was wonderful.
Pay a bit extra and stay on the executive floor.
Thank you, Dana for making it happen
