I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of an organised tour, on which I had no control over the accommodation. Before arriving I was dreading this stay, as I had heard the stories about only generator power for a few hours a day, no air conditioning, and not to mention that I have severe arachnophobia. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised, the reception area and restaurant were quite nice and the wifi worked well there. The lodge is located in the jungle so it's quite humid and there's wildlife on its doorstep, but this didn't turn out to be much of an issue, and the entrance of Tikal is 5 minutes walk away. When I stayed the electricity hours were 6-8 am, 12-2 pm, & 6-9 pm, but turned on manually rather than automatic so the times weren't exact. Wifi was available 24 hours in the reception area and it wasn't too slow. The pool and surrounding areas were nice and clean.
My room was basic but very clean and had the essentials. On entering my room a thorough search was done for any creepy crawlies, and only a couple of really really small ones were found. I think between guests the rooms are deep cleaned and sprayed with some sort of bug spray. Additionally there appeared to be no cracks or holes where anything could get into my room, all windows were completely covered with a transparent mesh and there was no gap underneath or around the front door. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were very clean. There were mosquito nets around all of the beds, which was great though I didn't really see any mosquitoes in my room (though it was a very nice precaution). The bathroom again was basic but had hot water 24 hours, no bath tub but a large shower, and a toilet that flushed properly. One issue was as it was so humid things didn't really dry properly such as towels or swimming costumes, but that's the reality of staying in the jungle. There was a lamp in the room which charged when the power was on and worked well when the power was off, saved having to do things by torchlight.
We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, breakfast was included but we paid for dinner. For dinner the food was good considering the facilities and not massively overpriced considering there weren't really any other options. The breakfast was table service rather than a buffet, they brought coffee or tea, fresh orange juice, and fruit to each person, and there was a choice of eggs or pancakes freshly made. Service was reasonably fast.
One thing worth mentioning about this place is how exceptional the staff were. They were so friendly and helpful, and their level of English was surprisingly good. The person who I think was the owner was around a lot tending to guests which was great.
Overall, if you want the jungle lodge experience and/or to stay very close to the site of Tikal then this is the place for you. Many of the limitations of this lodge are down to either the national park regulations (e.g. not being able to have power on the whole time), or the fact that Tikal is very remote and not well connected (e.g. to the power grid). Otherwise Tikal is accessible from Flores and easily doable in a day, as once we had finished touring the site we ended up back at the lodge for the whole afternoon with very little to do and no electricity (again, not Tikal Inn's fault).
