My husband and I stayed at the Tikal Inn for two days, while we visited the Tikal Ruins. We were greeted by Ricardo, who really went above and beyond, to make sure we were well-informed and that our stay at the Inn was pleasant. We speak very little Spanish, so we were lucky that Ricardo’s English was perfect and that he was so eager to help and knowledgeable of Tikal.

We booked a poolside Bungalow, and we found it to be clean and comfortable. Our room had a hot shower, large soft towels, mosquito nets and fresh bedding. I think the thing people need to keep in mind is that we are in the middle of the jungle...there will be internet outages (it’s satellite) and times during the day where you don’t have power. If this is an issue for you, book yourself a trip to Miami, not to a Central American jungle. Keep this in mind and you’ll do fine!

Pro Tip: Save your booking details (where you booked, confirmation number, how much you paid) offline, as they ask this at registration and the Internet might not be working.

I looked at the bad reviews for this hotel and thought this is from people who are not familiar with this kind of travel or place. Maybe they were on a type of packaged tour, as all the complaints seem to be about no electric and it being hot.

As it is in the middle of a Central American jungle you’d expect it to be hot and
on the hotel’s website it clearly states the hours when there is electric and Internet, they are up front about it. Also those bad reviews are not recent.

I read in a recent review or on the hotels website that the hotel has new management.

It is a lot cheaper than the other options here, so I decided to stay there and did the meal package, which also seems to have lots of complaints. This isn’t a top restaurant in some trendy location. I feel sorry for this restaurant and hotel having to put up with all of these stupid reviews.

This is a lovely place and the food was fine. In fact the breakfast was better than fine.

We also did the sunrise tour and the guide was very good and spoke great English. We chatted with him and learned that he had trained for 10 years. He was very knowledgeable in relation to Tikal and Mayan history.

We are very happy that we stayed here, rather than stay in Flores and get up at 2.30am to get there to see the sun rise.

When you walk through the jungle at 4am from the hotel, there are no sounds apart from the jungle waking. This is all ruined when the bus arrives an hour later with the tour from Flores who don’t seem to appreciate that they aren’t the only ones there.

After the sun rose the guide gave us a tour round the main areas, so we understood what was what and this allows you to explore more after going back to the hotel for breakfast, if you wanted to.

Everything was fine about the hotel and I don’t understand the complaints. I had a more distant room which was cheaper but I liked it because there were so few people around and it was quieter. Apparently there had been a jaguar cub hanging around the hotel recently but I wasn’t lucky enough to see it. I enjoyed the birds and howler monkeys. The only time that limited electricity was a problem was when I used up my phone battery taking photos and suddenly realized I couldn’t recharge it in the hotel.

I travel a lot in Guate and services around Tikal have a “pressure the tourist” vibe that I’m not used to. I got a room for $67 US (tax included). On check in I was offered a package with the sunrise tour, dinner and breakfast. I was too tired to shop around and I probably should have. Their restaurant has extremely few vegetarian options and I might’ve done better elsewhere. The food was tasty not special.
The sunrise experience is not to be missed. The tour guide was very pleasant but basically he was just a guide to make sure we didn’t get lost in the dark, not a tour guide. I will review Tikal park elsewhere.
The pool is a pleasant place to sit with loads of orioles overhead.
I had a major glitch trying to get transportation out of Tikal on Sunday afternoon and the owner was very helpful, calling people and trying to figure out how to solve the problem. I would stay there again.

After reading several reviews complaining about the lack of Internet or 24hr electricity at ALL 3 of the hotels in Tikal, I was prepared with my expectations that traveling to and staying in the remote jungle would be a different adventure then staying at a Holiday Inn in the city.

The Tikal Inn exceeded my expectations. Firstly, it's located right in the Tikal park, you can walk 2 minutes to the entrance to the protected Mayan ruins site. (This alone makes it much better than staying in Flores or Remate and taking a bus.). Secondly, the Tikal Inn is beautiful, thatched huts surrounding an amazing pool, it's literally what everyone dreams about staying in. I also checked the other 2 adjacent hotels (jaguar and jungle lodge) but found them much more low budget and like a hostel environment, just not right for me. For the same price, Tikal Inn is a big step up.

Yes, there is little and sometimes zero access to the Internet, electricity is by generator so only runs a couple hours a day, and hot water is in limited supply. You might notice, it's in the middle of the jungle, not NYC. If you're going to Tikal and don't understand how remote it is, your going to look foolish complaining.

Bring bug spray, Sun block, a rain poncho, walking shoes, a flashlight, and see something few will ever get to experience this close up, Tikal is amazing.

We did eat several meals at the hotel and purchase beverages. They let us just bill everything to our room and pay when we checked out which was super convenient. Prices were fine considering how remote the location is and when compared to any other hotel dining in the world, but I can see that budget baglunch travelers might find $2 coke or $12 meal expensive, but it's still cheaper than any National park anywhere in the world by comparison. (Try staying in Banff or Yellowstone at 10x the cost).

Overall highly recommend this hotel. It was exactly what an ecolodge property should be and by far the nicest option in the area. There are cheaper hotels, but they don't compare. Also, as others suggested I found that by staying 3 nights and booking directly through the hotel email that I saved alot of $$$ compared to using an online reservation site.

I will upload some pictures later, but it's basically Paradise off the grid in the jungle. A 5 star experience.

Hotel Tikal Inn is one of the three accommodation options available just outside of the gated Tikal archaeological/cultural site. Please be aware that you are in the middle of the jungle- all electricity is via generators, internet is via satellite uplink. You are, to an extent, roughing it here. As such, electricity only runs for a few hours per day, and is off all night to reduce the detrimental effect of generator noise on the jungle fauna. Internet is patchy and like all satellite internet, quality varies with weather and satellite location. HOWEVER given these constraints, Hotel Tikal Inn does a fantastic job of making your stay a wonderful experience. The kitchen is excellent (ask for the house-made hot sauce with your meals!) and the staff are friendly, courteous, and accommodating. The pool and garden area is relaxing and pleasant, with weaverbirds living in nests right above the property. The inn is right on the edge of the tourist area, so backs on to completely wild jungle, and the howler monkeys can be heard at dusk and dawn. Overall a wonderful eco-lodge experience.

Also, there was a merchant selling a variety of carved wooden wares including kitchen utensils, bowls, and small figurines in the lobby area in the daytime. I regret only purchasing one item from him, as I struggled to find the same kind of unique wooden souvenir anywhere else in Guatemala.

Second visit after almost a decade and even better than before. The rooms are still basic and power still goes off at night but WiFi works well in the reception and restaurant and the pool is superb.

Very helpful staff arranging tours including the famous 4am start for the dawn temple view.

The restaurant’s offering until 9.30pm is very good in the circumstances of location and good value for breakfast and dinner. Highly recommended.

We had a great stay at the Tikal Inn. We made a mistake with our booking dates and they were so helpful and accommodating. That level of service only continued when we arrived. It was clear the owners/managers are proud of their hotel, and the national park and were happy to give us advice and tips. Rooms were clean, grounds were lovely and the pool was just what we needed on a hot afternoon. That and watching monkeys swing through the trees! It is a (very) short walk to the entrance to the ruins, and there is a great path if you want to walk back into the jungle. People should know that wifi is only available in the main building, hot water is limited and electricity is only available at certain times of the day. Personally, we thought that was part of the charm. Overall we had a great stay. It's well worth staying in the park if you want to see the ruins!

This was a great in the jungle. And remember that, you are in the jungle. The stay here was made great because of the manager, Ricardo. He was soooo helpful with absolutely anything we needed. From tours, to highlights around the area, to getting us transportation back to the airport. He belongs in a Four Seasons somewhere!

The hotel and rooms are nice. We went with the bungalow, which is more, but worth it. Wifi was ok, but its the jungle, so expected. Electricity wasn't on all day, only mornings and evenings, but most of the time we were at Tikal so didn't matter to us.

The pool is refreshing for when you come back from your hikes. The food in the restaurant is ok. Nothing special. The mixed drinks were really good though! There are also drinks and snacks you can purchase throughout the day, so no need to stock up. There are also a lot of stalls and snack shops around the area you can easily walk to.

If you want a change up, the Jungle Lodge about a 5 minute walk has a nice restaurant too. We went a couple times just to get different types of food.

My only recommendation for the hotel is to get some games and more stuff to do. While you are there for Tikal, there is going to be down time and would be nice to have something else to entertain you.

People stay at this hotel mainly for location. It sits right in the Tikal national park, just a short walk from the world famous Tikal Mayan ruins and museum.

The hotel is reasonably well maintained. The pool is nice and clean and the lawns are neat and manicured. The restaurant is not bad at all, the Mayan-style chicken stew is the best thing on the menu.

In the end, Tikal Inn disappointed us on many fronts. We found this hotel to be greedy and a tad deceptive. Here are a few examples:

1). At the time of booking, we were confirmed a nightly rate of US$139 for the bungalow (inclusive of dinner, breakfast, and sunrise tour). When we checked in, we were extremely surprised that they refused to charge us in US dollars. They insisted on charging us in local currency ***at the conversion rate of their choosing (not the market rate)***. This means the confirmed rate of US$139 could be converted to any sum of local currency they wanted. Not surprisingly we ended up paying more than the expected US$139 rate. The final amount was not the issue, but it was the deception and the greed that we found difficult to stomach.

2). Our booking included the sunrise tour. However, this "inclusion" wasn't inclusive of the park entrance fee. Once again, deceptive.

This hotel is fine for a couple of nights for a visit to Tikal and it's very convenient for the entrance to the site which is only a few minutes' walk away. Although the hotel can't be described as luxurious, the staff are very friendly. and there is a swimming pool at the back. There are very comfortable beds with mosquito nets around them (we didn't hear any mosquitos though). The rooms are pretty basic other than that, and astonishingly (in my room at least) there was only one (double) electric socket. The bedside lamp and the battery operated lamp are plugged into that, so you need to unplug something to charge a phone or camera. The restaurant food is OK but the menu is pretty limited and it's the same at lunch and dinner. Staff are delightful and while some speak English, you'll get by much better if you have basic Spanish. As people have written already, the electricity is supplied only at the beginning, middle and end of the day, but we didn't find it a problem as one tends to get up early and go to bed early when on holiday in the tropics (and there is a battery operated light in the bedroom anyway).

I echo DavidW W's comments. Power generally 6.30pm to 10pm at night, and 6am to 9am in the morning. I've only stayed in the bungalows at the end of the long track away from the visitor centre, but nights were warm but breezy, and no problem getting to sleep, especially after a hard day exploring/climbing. Windows all have grills/mesh so while windows/vents are open, no bugs get in.
