Great place to stay

Reviewed Mar 8, 2023
We had a blast at Cahal Pech! The staff were attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed free coffee and free water to refill our bottles. They have a spacious veranda overlooking the city of San Ignacio. It was a great place to sip morning coffee, have a cold beverage in the afternoon, or meet friends for dinner. We booked our trips with the front desk. I also booked a massage, which was wonderful. We were able to book a driver through the resort from Beliz City to San Ignacio. They pretty much have you covered, they will even call you a cab to get down the hill! We walked back to the resort at least once a day to get some exercise, it's literally straight up. But the location is perfect because on the way back from town you can stop at the green iguana sanctuary and the ruins of Cahal Pech.
We booked the ATM cave tour, highly recommend! It was one of the highlights of our trip. Our tour guide was Basilio, he was fantastic! He is an expert birder and stopped the van several times to point out different birds. His charisma was infectious. He was extremely knowledgeable and was one of the best tour guides I have ever had. He told us about his friend Raul, another expert birder, who takes folks into the jungle to see the wild Scarlet Macaws, our other trip highlight!
The rooms are ok, the bed wasn't that comfortable but we never complained about it. Honestly, it didn't affect our good time at all. The view from our balcony was wonderful and we had everything we needed.
If you are looking for an affordable home base in San Ignacio with friendly people and access to almost everything, this is it.

We stayed here for the first half of our honeymoon in Belize. We booked the honeymoon package through CPVR and Lenny was incredible - organized everything for us, was great with communicating changes, and was available when I had questions. All of our tours and transportation were taken care off so all we had to do was show up and have fun!

We were in one of the cabanas with an incredible view of the city below. The room was clean and well appointed. It is not a 5 star hotel, but it is very nice for what you're paying - especially if you are spending the majority of your vacation out sightseeing and adventuring. The only thing we noticed is that we could have used more placed to hang wet clothes - there were almost no hooks!

The staff were all so wonderful. Everyone was super helpful and friendly. We went on 4 trips organized by Lenny at CPVR and all of our guides were so knowledgeable of the history, landscape, and country. When I tell you everyone is so nice, I mean everyone!

We didn't have a single bad experience working with Cahal Pech!

Room tip: Book one of the cabanas if you can for a more private stay!

A good value for the money. Fantastic view, a good bed, great shower. Working AC. We stayed in one of the cabanas. Our main complaint was that the security to the room was a joke. A 3-year-old with a butter knife could have broken into our cabana in less than 10 seconds, and the room had no safe. The hotel was also at the top of a very big hill. This made walking to town difficult and the hotel restaurant was acceptable but not great. The Wifi was VERY intermittent.

I was disappointed with this hotel. The rooms are large with a great balcony but very dated furniture. The bed was okay. There is only a sheet on the bed no blankets. We ended up using our travel blankets. The lighting was limited especially in the bathroom. The shower had low pressure and the water never really got hot, several times the water went from warm to cold to warm or cold. They do not supply drinking water in the room (at least not in our room) you have to go to the lobby to fill your water bottles. The restaurant was okay but they were understaffed. There are three pools and a hot tub. The hot tub didn’t appear to be working. The lower pool had a slimy bottom but the two upper pools were nice. We stayed at several hotels in Belize this not the nicest and the most expensive place we stayed. If we go back I would look for somewhere else to stay. It wasn’t terrible it was just okay.

Cahal Pech Hotel, and resort is on the top of the hill overlooking San Ignacio, Belize. This was my second visit. I arrived at 6 PM and sat for 30 minutes waiting for a waiter or waitress. I got up and called my cab to leave After 30 minutes. There were only two other tables occupied and well along in their dinners. Notably, this was the second time this happened to me at the same resort’s dining room. How do they survive? I told the front desk of these two experiences on my way out the door. They gave me a blank stare, said nothing in the way of apologies or explanation. This resort appears to be a disaster with respect to customer service.

Room tip: The hotel may be fine, but the dining facility is completely remiss of customer service.

Nice location with a scenic view of San Ignacio and beautiful sunset views. Conveniently short drive to central town area and nearby excursions. Spacious bungalow with screened porch/lanai, but a steep walk to and from the parking lot and restaurant/pool. Some wear and tear of many materials, some maintenance would go a long way. Beds were not especially comfortable. Food at restaurant had reasonable variety but was not exceptional. Wifi was a bit spotty in the bungalow, but better near the office/restaurant. Three pools, but all a little cold, not very deep, and lots of noise from pump equipment - again, possibly a deferred maintenance issue. Staff was friendly and helpful and responsive to our requests (extra pillows, for example). Concierge/tour desk staff were very accommodating and efficient. The tour guides that they hired for our Caracal tour were knowledgeable, engaging, and entertaining.

Room tip: bungalows further down the hill require more climbing to and from the office/restaurant (obviously)
