I can't speak for any of the other rooms except to say they are obviously bigger and better, but Room #4 was not a pleasant room to stay in. The biggest, most obvious problem is the shower—no enclosure, no shower curtain, nothing—and it could so EASILY be updated so that water doesn't go ALL OVER THE BATHROOM when you shower. You end up trying to squeeze into the corner and not move much in order to shower without making a mess. It's SO UNNECESSARY and NOT relaxing! There is a light fixture right by the shower, which is totally an electrical hazard! It's rusty from the shower, along with all the other metal objects in the restroom. AND, the ceiling is spattered with black mold. It's just a ridiculous excuse for a bathroom!

I added some comments to existing photos of the room, to describe some of the other issues. Keep in mind I am talking about Room #4 only, although for all I know, the other rooms have big problems also.

My impression is that the room may have been part of the office space in the past, and they carved a small room out of it. It just didn't seem like it was designed that way originally.

The staff was nice and helpful. No complaints there. They even brought us free bottles of Belikin (you also get two in the room fridge) while we sat outside the first night, due to the fact THE POWER WAS OUT ALL ACROSS BELIZE and it was HOT and PITCH BLACK in the room (windows slam down when you try to open them). Now this is something they don't tell visitors about! The power went out several times while we were there, and it's a big problem there that they need to freakin' fix. We went without dinner the first night, because everything was shut down.

Caye Casa, for their part, at least needs to invest in a generator. It was miserable there with no power. It went out so many times, my wife and I stopped even commenting on it to each other.

Ambergris Caye is kind of a dump. They also don't really tell you that. The poverty is in your face. The beaches along the side where Caye Casa is, are just rocky, trashed-out, undefined and sargassum-infested (that stuff SMELLED so bad!). But I'll refrain from getting more into Ambergris Caye here, since this is about our experience at Caye Casa. Except to say, there is more of a normal beach situation on the other side, at Secret Beach. If we went back, we would stay at one of the newish accommodations over on that side. There were some appealing-looking places over there, and we also enjoyed the funky vibe at Secret Beach.

I'm rating Caye Casa "Average" only because TripAdvisor calls two stars "Poor." Really, it's two stars for us as far as stars go, but "Poor" seems a little harsh. But maybe I am already forgetting how uncomfortable we were there and am not as unhappy today as I was in that room.

My husband and I recently stayed at Caye Casa for a week to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary and a belated honeymoon and we are so glad we did! The neighborhood and its accompanying beach were less crowded and more relaxed than downtown San Pedro, which was the speed we were looking for with this trip. The hotel features different types of rooms/units, including several with beautiful oceanfront views. You can walk from the property to the ocean in less than 30 seconds and they even have a pier with steps into the water, which is especially nice on days when the seagrass is deep on the shore.

We had a front porch which featured four Adirondack chairs, a hammock we could easily hook up, and a beautiful view of the ocean across the (sand) street from the property. There was a swimming pool on the ground floor that was a great option when the ocean had too much sea grass present or when we wanted a shaded option for being in the water.

Our room was huge and had a very comfortable living room set up, a full size kitchen, a massive bathroom, and a dining room. The kitchen was equipped with a five gallon water jug hooked up to the fridge so we could have cold water and ice without any worries. The unit had board games and a few books, both of which we took advantage of on our trip. For those that want to travel all over the island, there are lots of golf cart rental options nearby and free parking in front of the hotel.

The location is walkable to so many great food options - Sandy Toes was one of our favorites. You can even book a snorkeling or fishing trip from the dock out front through New Day Adventures, which was a highlight of our time in Belize.

The staff are super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful time in San Pedro! They had loads of restaurant recommendations, helped us book our snorkel trip, and arranged a cab on our last day to catch the water taxi. They even offer a free laundry service, which we were not aware of before booking, but is a great option if folks want to limit their packing.

If we ever have the chance to return to Belize, we will definitely stay at Caye Casa again!

Comfortable and super clean room, fantastic location, fabulous view and incredible staff- treated like family throughout our stay. We would go back there inna heartbeat. Big shout out to that team- they helped us secure a golf cart and called taxis for other transport from ferry and to airport.

Room tip: Do try to book your golf cart before the trip if you want to go into San Pedro for dinner or up to Secret Beach for a day trip.

Caye Casa is incredible in every way. They views, the excellent quality of the apartment, superior bedding, luxury furnishings and huge space on the balcony with great places to watch the world go by. The staff will go out of their way to make your stay memorable, fun and comfortable. Special thanks to housekeeping, Jake the manager and Shane were all outstanding in their customer contact and care. Nothing was too much trouble.
