A lovely and friendly hotel

Reviewed Jan 14, 2024via mobile
My brother and I have stayed in more budget-conscious hotels whilst skiing in the past but decided to forgo a few CHF and enjoy a bit of pampering this year. We don’t regret doing so as the Alpen Resort is a lovely place to return to after a full day skiing.
The owner Inga and her staff are without exception welcoming, cheerful and helpful. Singling anyone out would be wrong but I will: Anatella in the dining room made us laugh and was happy to spend precious time teaching my brother Italian whilst serving others. All the staff are happy to take time out to chat.
The twin room was spacious and had sofa and armchair. The ski room was large and had an allocated locker for every room. The basement spa facilities were extensive and accommodated many people in the warren of sauna/steam/ice shower/hot tubs. A surprise was the billiards/table football and table tennis area in the basement, with double height roof making it feel spacious and airy.
Food was generous and largely high quality, given the number of diners. Buffet breakfast was satisfactory rather than exemplary, perhaps, as it was the same every day (except the cakes were sometimes varied) and more 3 star than 4.
The bar itself is small but could be described as intimate, with the entrance hall serving as a nice seating area for taking drinks to, with a glazed wood burner in the middle.

Room Tip: We had a twin room looking out towards the Matterhorn, which glows in the dawn sunshine - room C3...

Stayed here for one night before going on the Glacier Express
As we booked quite late it was literally the only accommodation left!! It was very expensive but we could just about get over it but then to charge an extra £150 for cleaning was excessive and a rip off in my opinion
The room was really nice and the view from the balcony amazing.

Thank you for the feedback. You are right, that our rooms have a very nice view to the Matterhorn. But we do not charge any of our guests extra for cleaning. All services are included (breakfast buffet, entry to the pool & spa area) and never we charge extra for cleaning. Kind regards Alpen Resort & Spa team.

This hotel & its staff are outstanding! Very well kept, friendly & helpful staff, excellent breakfast & great location. We needed a doctor 2x & they checked to see who was open & shuttled us there. Also asked how we were upon return. Great experience.

Had the most wonderful stay in this hotel and I’d highly recommend staying here - we would stay here again if we came back. Rooms are gorgeous, the pool area is stunning and everything is kept so clean. Very convenient location too it’s just a walk away from bars and restaurants. Also the massage was amazing which was a bonus.
Thank you alpen resort !!

8 of us stayed at the Alpen Resort Hotel over the opening of the winter season in Zermatt for a business trip. We had an absolutely seamless stay from start to finish. The hospitality is just unmatched, we were looked after the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The interior is beautiful... cosy alpine meets modern luxury and it’s perfectly done. They keep upgrading it at every opportunity too. After we left, they were adding in a long fireplace to the centre of the lounge area. It felt really special staying there and I would certainly return at any given opportunity.
THE SPA! WOW! it was a whole experience in itself. If you want a relaxed day off the slopes or a chilled après ski, this is the place to be. The outdoor hot tub, heat & ice experience, Jacuzzis, saunas, gorgeous swimming pool, relaxation rooms.... heaven!
There are 3 different places to eat, they have the main restaurant, The Grill & then the bar downstairs (DUDE) where you can grab a burger, wings, and fries. You wouldn’t even need to leave the hotel if you didn’t want to as it had such a range of options. Just one last thing to add is the amazing boot room- each guest has their own separate large, heated locker that opens using your room key. Thank you so much for having us, it certainly goes down as one of my most luxurious stays. See you again in the future!

ONE OF THE BEST HOTELS WE HAVE STAYED IN. IT'S LOCATION IS EXCELLENT, WALKING DISTANCE FROM RESTAURANTS, LIFTS ETC. OUR ROOM WAS SPACIOUS WITH GREAT VIEW TO THE MOUNTAINS. THE OTHER HOTEL FACILITIES (RESTAURANTS, POLL) ARE PERFECTLY DECORATED, ALWAYS CLEAN AND COSY. THE STAFF IS VERY POLITE & HELPFUL. WE WILL VISIT IT AGAIN!
