Review of Steinenschanze Stadthotel

I originally booked my stay with Hotel Steinenschanze in early 2020, planning to attend a course on respiratory infections in Basel. Ironically, the SARS COV-2 pandemic kept me from attending the course in 2020 and meant staying up very late into the wee hours for remote virtual attendance during 2021. Through this, the hotel staff were very helpful when I deferred my booking for one year in 2020, then in 2021 sought a "rain cheque" for some time in the future and finally asked if they could accommodate me and my mother (who was not included in the initial plan) at short notice when we travelled across from Australia to visit my uncle in his last days battling lung cancer.
For a conference, the hotel is centrally located, convenient for trams (especially with the 7 days free public transport pass that came with our accommodation). It was quiet in the evenings, with a pleasant and inexpensive "little breakfast" available (or a decent spread if you were especially hungry) in the mornings. The room was spotlessly clean, the lighting was good, the shower was hot and powerful and the beds were comfortable. My only criticism is that the television could only be viewed from the beds (bad for sleep hygiene from the perspective of a respiratory and sleep physician but there really was nowhere else in the room to put it). Even so, my mother says that she slept better than at home! However, in the circumstances, we were there for other reasons and we found the staff attentive, friendly, helpful and willing to go to extra effort to answer our questions and ensure that we were comfortable.

The warm staff made our stay wonderful!

We enjoyed a one-night stay at the spotlessly clean Steinenschanze Stadthotel before a river cruise. The location was perfect for exploration and overcoming jet lag! The reception staff and manager were warm and hospitable. Loved the welcome drink and flexibility with our reservation. They moved us to a room where they thought we'd be more comfortable than what we had booked! Called us a taxi to our ship with a gracious goodbye. We will stay here again and appreciate the small hotel hospitality!

SUPER NICE STAFF

I’ve been to this hotel for a one night stay, during a business trip all over Switzerland.
The hotel is very nice, the location is good as it is very close to the city center and the rooms are very new (quite small but nice and modern).
As soon as we arrived we got our welcome drink in the lobby, loved it I haven’t got such a warm welcome in a while.
The drink was nice but the best thing about this hotel is the super friendly staff at the reception, always smiling, helpful and careful about the clients. I hope the manager/owner treat these girls well because they really deserve the best.
We’ll be surely come back!

Morgenstraich - Outstanding

Couldn’t be more happy with choice! Right over a parking garage and 1 min to the Barfüsslerplatz. Next time we will ask for room facing away from street as we like to sleep with window open. They made everyone cafe and Gipfeli for the Morgenstraich, at 3 am!

We are glad that you enjoyed our stay in our hotel. For us it is very important that our guests start their day with a good and healthy breakfast . During the Fasnacht, as the Morgenstreich started at 4.00 O'clock, we thing that it is important to have already the possibility to take a cafe before going out. We really appreciated that the Fasnacht could finally take place this year, it was a joyful atmosphere!

We have different kind of rooms, for exemple the Small charming rooms and the backyard charming rooms are facing the garden. For your next trip don't hesitate to contact us and we will help you to find the ideally room for you!

Lovely hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic and the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast which is included is wonderful and the room faces the garden, which was beautiful even in the colder weather. We particularly liked their communication before the stay. They want your stay to be pleasant and they give you a Basel card to use for free public transportation and discounts on tours and museums. The welcome drink each evening is a nice touch. Overall, we had a wonderful time in Basel and this hotel was a large part of that experience.

One day Xmas Market trip

My wife and I stayed in Steinenschanze Stadthotel for one night. We came to Basel mainly for the Christmas market. The hotel is closed enough to the main train station so we walked from the station to the hotel. We were able to check in early. The lady in the front desk was **super** friendly and helpful. She made our stay in Basel much more enjoyable. I would recommend this hotel just because of her great service.

Anyway, the hotel room is clean and comfortable. Bathroom and shower was a bit small but well equipped. Bed was comfortable. Shower water pressure was strong. Breakfast was excellent.

We came on Sunday 28/11 morning. I don't remember her name - antoinette
antoine? Anyway, thank you for your service and thank you for arranging dinner (fondue at the Christmas market) for my wife and I.
