Recommended by our hotel, La Yaya Amelia is a treasure. This is a wonderful family restaurant with excellent food (including many Catalan specialties, an extensive menu and superb wines, fairly priced.
The owner makes you feel you are a guest in his home. He recommends first-rate wines that are not the most expensive on the list - which I find charming. We went two consecutive evenings and both times had the same superb Priorat he had recommended on our first visit.
This is a local gem to be treasured. Go and enjoy the Catalan hospitality.
BTW, if you enjoy excellent Scotch whiskeys, his collection is extensive and very well chosen. For instance, there is a somewhat rare whisky distilled in Scotland, but aged in wine barrels in Burgundy, Michael Courvier, about which he was very knowledgeable. I own that whisky in my collection and was impressed at his knowledge. Not something I would have all expected.
As you can tell, I love this place. We live in San Francisco, dine out several times a week and enjoy fine wines (not to mention good whisky). This would be a much visited favorite we’re it in our town.
BTW, “Yaya” means grandmother in Catalan. The place is in homage to his Yaya, and he does her proud.
