Review of Hotel Medicis
Reviewed May 18, 2017via mobile
I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights with my boyfriend and was delighted at how lovely and clean the hotel was and how modern it looked as it was just like the pictures online! The staff were also very pleasant as they would always greet you everyday which was nice however there was a number of issues that we faced.. First of all we specifically paid for a double room which we didn't get.. what we received was two small single beds pushed together which wasn't ideal as once you lay down the beds would move apart and not mention it was the most uncomfortable bed to sleep in! The mattresses were hard and lumpy and the excuse of a "pillow" which was about 6 foot long had no padding! On the topic of sleep the noise levels at night were a joke, you could hear doors slamming and people walking up and down the stairs at all hours and even hear others conversations in other rooms. We were also promised a balcony and window view which to our disappointment we were put in room 101 which had NO BALCONY and "our view" was a set of spiral stairs.. so yeah not good! The room itself was rather small and with the no balcony and the air conditioning not working it made me feel claustrophobic and not to mention the rooms being absolutely roasting! In the hotel description it stated that there was a safe in the room which there was although they fail to mention that you have to in fact pay a fee of €25 to use the safe.. like seriously?? you may as well just raid my case instead! And as for the "Free WIFI" yeah it's all well and good the wifi being free but it has to be the slowest out there to the point you can't even use it (we had to trek all the way to McDonalds (15 minute walk) to use their WIFI instead which was much better.. and that's saying something) to be fair the WIFI isn't that much of a big deal in terms of my experience at the hotel however when you're trying to get into contact with your family in regards of your safety etc it's a little stressful to say the least! On a more positive note the hotel location was pretty decent as it was less than a 10 minute walk from the La Sagrada Familia and close by to bus stops and metro stations which was good! Although there were "some" positives there were definitely more negatives and I couldn't and wouldn't stay again or recommend this hotel to anyone but that's just from what I experienced and felt...

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in May 2017. Hotel was clean and comfortable - good value for money. What let the hotel down was how noisy it was during the night; constant banging / crashing noises which didn't have any visible cause.
There is a taxi rank right outside the hotel making it easy to get around the city. The Sagrada Familia is a 5 minute walk from the hotel with plenty of cafe type places for food and drink.
Hotel staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Gave us pointers for where to go on an evening and took the time to explain how to get to certain tourist attractions. Could even book tourist tickets through the hotel reception which were usually cheaper than the attraction itself.

This hotel was really excellent, and I recommend it everyone.

We stayed for 2 nights here, on the second floor with a balcony facing the street. As soon as we arrived the lady at the front was super helpful, friendly and welcoming. She pulled out a map and showed up all the main attractions to see in Barcelona, and wrote down all the transportation routes get there from the hotel.

The room was exactly as shown in photos, clean and nicely decorated. There was air-conditioning for the hot nights which was really wonderful. The bathroom was perfect, and there were many clean towels. There was a closet with a mini fridge, and a safe for valuables. On the table there was a kettle and complimentary water, tea and coffee. The bed was comfortable.

The location of the hotel was perfect. The minutes walk from the L5 metro station. And one station or 7 minutes walking from Sagrada Familia. There were many lovely restaurants all around as well, a few grocery stores and a small 24h shop for basics.

I really recommend this hotel, for the amazing staff and wonderful accommodation.

Nice clean hotel close to Sagrada Familia. The rooms are small but ok for 2 nights. Close to the subway.
Close to restaurants and cafes. It has free wifi. It has breakfast 12 eur per person, it was good enough not a lot of options. The best part is the proximity with Sagrada familia. It is a 10 minutes walk.

Very clean hotel. Really comfortable beds and pillows! Never eat here so cant comment. Staff are really friendly and the hotels location is good right by the train station. Loads of food places nearby. Walls are very thin in hotel but that didn't really bother us. We were at the back of the hotel so had no traffic noise. We stayed for a weekend 16th March - 19th March. Weather was lovely and so was Barcelona. We had a lovely meal on the marina which I would recommend for dinner. Lots of nice restaurants and felt a bit nicer than sitting on las ramblas. I would stay nearer las ramblas if i returned but would reccomend this hotel.

Room tip: we had 501 no balcony but at the back so no traffic noise
