Bonanova ruined my vacation!

Review of Bonanova
Reviewed May 5, 2014
ALthough we had paid in advance the apartment was not available upon our arrival. We were given a hotel room instead with the excuse that it was an upgrade! Very poor service and unreliable. Dear Bonanova, if we wanted a hotel we would have chosen one! NO excuse is acceptable when you look forward to a peaceful vacation and it is ruined !

First of all I would like to thank you for your comment, although in your case it is a negative one. We felt very sorry for changing/relocating you to a hotel, but we really had a serious problem in the apartment you booked. We sent you an email 3 days before the check-in day explaining the situation and offering you a 4 stars hotel, more expensive, but with no extra charge for you. We know it was not the first time you booked at our Hotel, and we know you evaluated our hotel as excellent previously. For that reason we would like to apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to see you in Bonanova Suite in the future.

been there for several days. Good and quiet location. The rooms are equipped with everything you need to be ok, not a lot of comfort, but practical
. First day had a very uncomfortable room with a horrible bed. Then I got a room with a terrace and a comfortable bed the second day. Te personnel moved everything for me, even the content of the fridge ... Nice!

The personnel is very helpful and friendly.

Nearby is a supermarket, so you can buy everything you need to cook in the kitchenette in the room.
The hotel is close to the subway, very short commute to downtown.

Hotel price for Barcelona is ok. I would stay there again because you have a chance to fix your own food. Ok, the hotel is not equipped with the latest furniture... But not uncomfortable.

I stayed here for a week for a mixture of work conference and leisure. Overall, it was fine, in a decent area, clean and convenient to have a kitchenette. Balcony/terrace was also nice. The main downside was that it was extremely noisy - I was kept awake or woken up most nights either by people talking loudly late, maybe on their own terrace, people coming in late (4am) and talking away for a couple of hours, or the very noisy lift. This is very far from ideal if you need to get up for work or value your sleep at all. Possibly compounded by the fact that the mattress and pillows were EXTREMELY hard and uncomfortable. The hotel made an effort to provide useful amenities on request, e.g. washing up items, kids' films.

This little aparthotel is great value for a stay in Barcelona. It's in a quiet part of town but only 5 minutes walk to the FGC line 7 to the centre, taking only 8 minutes. Staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. I can imagine some of the views from the rooms would be unexciting but if you can get room 501 or 503 you get a terrace and a decent view over a square.

Room tip: 501 or 503 are the best

Friendly, welcoming, informative staff. Clean and well equipped room - more like a small apartment, with a kitchenette, dining table and two chairs. Not going to win any style awards though, so stay elsewhere if that matters to you. Small reception area, with sofas to one side. Go for one of the rooms at the rear if you're sensitive to noise - saying that I imagine all rooms have the huge heavy duty external blinds to block out both noise and light (mine did).

I wanted to stay specifically in this neighbourhood to be close to friends - it is on the hill behind the centre of Barcelona, so away from marauding stag and hen parties, and general city centre goings-on. The location will likely determine whether you stay here - it is not an area where most tourists venture, even though it is one of Barcelona's more upscale areas (though the buildings are mostly 50s-70s modern). In a city where all too often the restaurants have photos of each plate to help visiting tourists (almost all are dreadful), there are a few good eating places near to Bonanova Suites - Montesquieu for upscale tapas / Catalan cuisine, Bopan for breakfast and tea, Hana Bishi for homely Japanese. Ask around or at Bonanova Suites as there isn't one street full of restaurants/shops, rather things are dotted around.

Hi - full disclosure, I lived in this neighborhood for 4 years so am very familiar with all it has to offer. I had driven by this hotel 1000s of times and on our last visit to Barcelona we decided to stay here. 3 stars in Spain means something very different than in the US - this hotel has all of the things you need for a great stay and the staff is very helpfull. If you know Barcelona you know that you can navigate almost all parts of the city via the Putxet train stops or the many buses that fly down Muntaner street. 20 minutes by bus or 15 minutes on the train to the city center. Hotel is very clean and in a very safe neighborhood. Will stay here again on our next visit.
