I booked a table at this restaurant before arriving in Barcelona. I was captivated by the idea of ​​being able to have a beef experience similar to the one in Japan in regard to services and beef quality. I opted for the Fukuroi menu. Right from the entrance, I was pleasantly surprised by the hostess dressed in traditional kimono and by the fact that we were offered wet and warm towels to wipe our hands. Then I experienced the excitement of discovering each dish. We chose to come back after a few days. High quality of the dishes for both experiences. We were really impressed by the impeccable service on the first visit, but the service was not that attentive during our second visit. I think it was a different shift, with new employees, slightly inattentive and a little confused: the grill was placed upside down, the explanations of the dishes were very quick, the meat was cut differently and the Fukuroi was not presented at the table before serving it.
I liked that they adjusted the menu according to intolerances - no spices and no pork.

Carlota Akaneya is one of the best (if not the best) yakiniku restaurants in Barcelona. The food is of excellent quality as well as the service and of course the ambiance (it is a rather small restaurant, dimly lit and overall with a very Japanese and austere aesthetic that I personally appreciate). If you've been to Japan and miss it you have to come here, just with the 'IRASHAIMASE!!!' they greet you with as you enter you know you're in the right place.

Special mentions: the matsusaka beef and the Crown Melon of course (I didn't want to take a picture of the melon and now I regret it!), the nabe soup was excellent too, they are experts in making humble dishes and elevating them to the highest category, just what you are looking for in a yakiniku. The desserts were delicious, very well prepared, and being able to accompany them with an umeshu on the rocks was the icing on the cake.

Overall a fantastic experience, I wouldn't change a single comma. I first came 7 years ago and came back a few days ago, I was very happy to discover that they had not lost any of the character or quality they had the first time I came to dine here :)

Well surprise visit for my birthday and was blown away by the whole experience …. Amazing setting and staff attentive , friendly and knowledgable ….clearly you are buying a dining experience and nothing left to chance , my son had let them know my dietary requirements and fully catered and adapted , the star of the show is the beef all superb but you end with the A5 wagu and nothing ever tasted like that and portion generous ….. recommend the wasabi salt with it ….. the wine menu was great and sensibly priced !
All in all a top evening apart from the candles saying I was 68 … lost in translation somewhere!!!
Highly recommend if in Barcelona or Madrid !
