This place was a great value!

Review of El Jardi
Reviewed 3 weeks ago
This is a great little budget hotel right in the middle of Barcelona. We had a GREAT balcony overlooking the plaza and sat in our room every night just watching the people below us out in the courtyard. the beds were great, the shower was the smallest I have ever seen, and the staff was super friendly. Breakfast was bread, coffee, and cereal. There are stairs to get into the place and there is a bar downstairs right outside. Great location.

Cool little hotel in a great location! Be warned the elevator is on the second floor. I give it 3 stars because when I told them the shower was broken they told me that’s impossible it was checked before we got there. Basically they’re calling me a liar. If they have something funny going on that they take broken things out of the staff’s pay they should stop. Fearful staff doesn’t create happy environments.

Room tip: Be prepared to hike to the second floor with luggage. Check your room thoroughly before your stay including the shower. location great!

We stayed at this hotel because of it was recommended in the Rick Steves book. It’s in a great location. Two minutes from the Rambles. several tapas restaurants just outside the hotel. As noted in other reviews you have to go up one flight of steps in order to get to the hotel lobby so if you have heavy luggage, that will be a challenge. But after that, the lift can get you up to your room or you can take the stairway. The rooms are clean and quiet.

A very well located hotel offering basic but clean accommodation. Just off La Rambla and close to metro stations, the location was convenient to even return to the hotel for a quick rest before heading out again in the evening. A pretty square in front of the hotel, many restaurants and bars around added to the convenience. Most attractions and placas were within walking distance. Breakfast was bare bones. Be forewarned about the flight of stairs that lead to the front desk from the street level entrance...requiring some additional effort to lug your bags.

We stayed at El Jardi for 5 nights while in Barcelona. We had a great stay and would go back in a heart beat! I'm giving it 5 stars not because it's an luxury resort type hotel, but because of the value of the location, the staff and the clean, safe environment. Our room (double room with terrace), on the top floor, had a large balcony that overlooked the Cathedral next door. The glass doors were well insulated and we never heard a bit of noise or Cathedral bells. The bathroom had been redone and was lovely and large by European standards. The actual room was spartan, but clean, with shelves in the closet as well as a safe. The bed was only a full size, but comfortable. The location is perfect for walking or catching the metro. We felt safe at El Jardi. There is always someone at the front desk and they spoke English well. They arranged for a taxi to pick us up at 4 am to head to the airport and couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast is just ok. They do have juice, coffee, yogurt and cereal, then one of the employees brings out a croissant and baguet to your table. They do provide jams as well. We don't spend a lot of time in our hotel room. All I need is a clean, safe space to sleep and shower. We were more than happy with our choice.

Room tip: I would choose a terrace room on a high up floor

Bare bones hotel, you will be greeted with the stench of garbage upon entering. The patio door did not lock, nor did The heater, so when we asked for a blanket, they said they did not have any and gave me 3 sheets instead. The only toiletries/ammenties you get are 2 paper cups and a pump bottle of crappy soap. The bathroom smelled like sewer. Photos on website misrepresent the actual rooms. The walls were bare and the TV was smaller than my laptop screen. Oh, and the light switches were behind the pillows on the headboard so if you leaned against it in the middle of the night, the room lit up. Need I say more?
Pros: Room appeared clean and coffee station was decent at least.
