Watch out for INTERIOR rooms!

Reviewed Mar 16, 2024
Overall, the hotel is good, but we were upset when upon arrival the receptionist informed us that we had booked an interior room and that she knew we would want to upgrade! There was no indication on the Hotel Ramblas website that we were booking such a room. However, it did say "interior room" on the booking form - after we'd booked it. We were unsure what it meant, but assumed it would be overlooking a central "courtyard" area. It was a windowless room (No. 500), but had a patio door opening on to what looked like a disused lift shaft - five floors up - with railings in front of it. The noise from the surrounding toilet flushings etc. was extremely loud! The room itself was fine otherwise. We were told that there were no other rooms available that night, but that we could upgrade to a standard double room the next day. We found the lack of natural daylight very uncomfortable, and the plumbing noises were disturbing, so we asked for an upgrade as suggested, only to be told that there were only terraced rooms available at an extra 30 euros per night. Well, we paid it, but felt that we had been misled. Our terraced room on the 8th floor was fine, but use of the terrace was quite limited in March! Breakfast was a continental buffet which included fresh fruit, delicious rolls, yoghurts, cakes and fresh orange juice. It's a shame that our stay was negatively affected by the feeling that we'd been misled - at best - about the rooms.

Amazing gem of a hotel, we booked a terrace room, situated on the 8th floor the view was spectacular, right in the middle of la rambla, everything is within easy reach, buses and metro right on the doorstep.
The staff in the hotel are amazing victor in reception was so helpful and full of local knowledge.
The waiting staff work really hard.
Rooms cleaned daily with lovely cleaning staff, beds very comfortable, couldnt of asked for more for the price
Will definitely be back again.

Thank you Ramblas hotel for a memorable stay.......

I approached this stay at Ramblas Hotel with trepidation, after reading the mostly poor reviews on here.
Well, we had a great time! We had room 409, a double with a small balcony overlooking Las Ramblas. It was nothing fancy but it was clean and comfortable. There was a safe and a fridge. It even had a bath as well as a shower and loads of hot water. No tea and coffee equipment but we knew that.
We were not particularly aware of noise from the street. Yes you could feel the odd rumble of the metro and now and then a door slam but it did not affect our sleep. Probably the 2 thick layers of blackout curtains helped (they certainly kept it nice and dark at night!)
Breakfast was ok....cereals, fruit, yoghurts, ham, cheese, pastries, cake, bread...and on request, gluten free bread and biscuits for me.
The lifts were small and quite slow, but that didn't inconvenience us. The whole place is an old, characterful building with faded charm.
Location wise it was excellent, the metro (very easy to use, we bought a T Familiar which gave us 8 journeys for under 10 euros) was less than 5 mins walk. It was also walkable to the harbour (30mins) and the Gothic Quarter and Bouquera market (10mins). Do try the nearby Placa Reial, a lovely place for eating outside in the evening (even in March as the bars had outdoor heaters) and beautiful in the day too.
We had a lovely time.

This hotel is a perfect location easy access to everything.
Staff were pleasant.
Room had clean towels, beds made and bin emptied every day.
Very good and hot shower.
The rooms need updating, beds you can feel all the springs, chips in bed side units, you can hear people coming and going all through the night, doors slammed, people leaving and arriving with suitcases, there is a flamenco club next door you can here the music till the early hours, the rumble of the metro, drainage pipes in your room so you hear when other guests use the shower or toilet.
If you want to sleep this will not be the hotel for you.
Breakfast was poor, we went the first day and only had a yogurt and banana didn’t return again.

Room tip: Great location If you want sleep you won’t get it at this hotel very noisy

Hmmmm. Where to start.
Reception - 24 minutes to check in due to volumeof peope checking in and only 1 receptionist.
Room. Very tired. Chipped floors & furniture. On our arrival day there were 2 polo mints on the 3rd floor landing and they were still there 2 days later.
Matress was thin and I actually had springs sticking into me - At first I thought there was a stone in the bed but it was springs.
No tea/coffee facilities.
Dont bother with a balcony as there is no furniture on it so not usable.
Bathroom - mould on grout and cieling. Cracked tiles, rusty taps. Thin towels.
Location - Great central location to explore but this came with problems.
The Irish Bar 2 doors down kicks out ay 2am. The nighclub beneath the hotel opens at midnight until 6am. If you want a good night sleep - don't go here. Fri and Sat had noise from people in the street all night until 6am - and then an hour later the bottle's get emptied from the pubs.
We hoped for a better sunday night but this was even worse with noise all night including yelling and a huge police presence at 5.30am.
I appreciate that what happens outside is not the fault of the hotel but there is no double glazing and our window pain was cracked.
On the positive- the contenental breakfast was adequate and the bathroom had plenty of hot water - but thats it.
This place is in serious need of refurbishment and I would class it as 2* rather than 3

After reading reviews was a little uneasy as to what to expect. But I can honestly say we had a fabulous time at Ramblas Hotel. A warm welcome by the lady in reception. On entering room (606) I was pleasantly surprised. A large, freshly decorated room with a view looking out over La Rambla. Great size bathroom, TV, small fridge and safe. Only drawback and that’s why I’ve only given 4/5 is that there are no tea and coffee making facilities, but I was aware of this so had taken my own.

Breakfast was continental, but a great choice of cereals, yogurt, fruit, breads and pastries as well as meat and cheese. Freshly squeezed orange juice (no pretend stuff here, you can see it being prepared as you eat. Staff are constantly cleaning the breakfast room. Never saw them standing still.

Hotel is very clean and is currently being decorated. Great location

Great bar just out side Cafe Gran Ramblas. Looks a little lonely as it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of some of the street side bars, but really well priced. Cocktails €8.40 Meals varied in price but really competitive.

Yes it can be noisy as mentioned in other reviews, but it’s a main tourist area, so what do you expect.

On leaving they have a luggage room. You are given a keycard and inside the rooms there are lockers which take €2. You can easily get two carry on cases and a couple of back packs in them.

Beautiful hotel and we hope to go back
