Barcelona has a lot to offer, and as a tourist you need to be well located in order to be able to go places (without a car) Hotel Colón has a perfect location, right in from of the Catedral de Barcelona, just perfect, a few steps away an underground parking place (if you have a car) and a few meters more and you can catch up the tourist busses as well. Many nice restaurants (read my other reviews for tips) and tapas bar around and a short walk to Plaza Catalunya and its many stores and Ramlas (please be aware of pick pockets, there are a lot)
Hotel Colón is a 4 star Hotel in which I stayed 11 nights, the receptionists are nice and service minded, we had a little problem the first night with the heating but they solved it and compensate for the inconvience,
THE PROS: Our room (118) was nice and lighty, on a corner with 2 small balconies, very quiet from the street even thou it gets really busy there. When they fight on the streets which can happen on weekends you will hear it. The amenities are nice, and well I happen to like Ortigia, Special mention to the best worker from the Hotel Mrs. Conchi, such a sweet lady who cleaned our room and was always happy and willing to help, she deserves the employee of the year tittle.. The breakfast was fine BUT you might get bored after some days, there isn't much variation, I will recommend the managment to improve variation as not all guests stays 3 nights,
THE CONS: Bed are firm, I like cosy soft beds and mine wasn't but had nice pillows.
Also some days I saw people (not hotel guests) going into the hotel and taking pictures, sitting there, I did not like that.
I got a lot of noise from the room above mine, I know that is not up to the hotel but it is worth to point that if you are a light sleeper like me you might want to stay at the top floor.
Because of corona and the time I visited we weren't able to try the spa, neither the pool (which is in the terrace and not heated) The views from the terrace are beautiful.
These days there is a big Chjristmas market just outside the hotel, usually there is an antique market from Thursday to Sunday but now its Christmas and I must say it looks amazing, the whole Barcelona is full of christmas lights and decorations, trully magical. I will for sure stayed again at Hotel Colón, just in a higher floor and facing the Catedral, hope the breakfast buffet has improved by then.
