Review of Hotel Brick

Full marks. Friendly staff, clean rooms. As a three star hotel it excels. I would choose this over 4 star hotels in the area. A great amount of coffee shops and restaurants are nearby, and it’s only 15 min from the airport. Every aspect of my interactions with the hotel was pleasant. Great value.

Really the perfect hotel. First of all some rooms are small so if you are planning on spending time in the room then reconsider. However it is SPOTLESS clean and very hip and new. The breakfast was the best I have had in ANY hotel(I have stayed at thousands) because it was clean, fresh AND tasty, the choices of food were mind altering. Coffee is fresh and available all day and the staff where accommodating in every way. Details make a fine hotel and Brick has a full understanding of this. Again really just the perfect hotel.

Room tip: Ask for a larger room if you need.

I wanted a hotel near the Barcelona Sants rail station as I was going to depart on a fairly early Bilbao train. It's an easy 15 minute walk to the station but you need some extra time (maybe 10 minutes?) for security as Spain seems to have luggage x-raying for long rail journeys. I think there are three separate groups of platforms so you also need time to locate the correct platform.

It's very easy to get to the hotel using the reasonably-priced Aerobus from the airport. Just get off at Placa d'Espanya and walk 2 minutes back down the road where the bus came from past Hotel Gran Via and you're there. If you reach the Waffle cafe you have just passed it! I arrived fairly late and was grateful for the easy journey.

Brick is a small hotel on a busy main road, well located for the Placa d'Espanya Metro station. It looks fairly new and has a modern, sensible design. I think there are 7 accommodation floors with 5 rooms on each floor. My room was compact with no particular view making it fine for three days. I see other reviews mentioning a "triangle room" that sounds like it's only ideal for one person. The hotel's website calls these minirooms at 10 square metres. The rooms have a room safe but no minibar and no hot drinks. The hotel has free coffee available from noon in the breakfast area - I didn't try that. Wi-Fi worked well. There's a single lift serving all the floors.

I didn't try the breakfast - there's loads of cafes nearby. The 365 one opposite is convenient but nothing special. I'd recommend a stroll down the nearby Carrer de la Creu Corbeta road for more choice. If you want a supermarket there's a small Dia a few minutes walk down the road the hotel is on and about 15 minutes walk further is a larger Mercadona which is probably not worth the walk.

The road noise isn't a problem, it's like Manhattan, just a low, constant, background hum. There's a few odd people who hang around the Placa d'Espanya but I think this is far enough away from the main tourist areas to be lower risk for pickpocketing. This seems to be a real problem in Barcelona, a friend mentioned his colleague had his smartphone stolen and I met some fellow tourists on a bicycle tour who lost a bracelet after an encounter with a local.

Friendly, helpful staff and a bit more personable than the larger hotels. They have a free folding map which is good as a backup and useful if you want to avoid flashing your smartphone about in a touristy area.

Barcelona is a bit more expensive than I thought and this includes hotels. I'd consider the Brick Hotel again if I was on a short trip and wanted to use the rail station but given the abundance of hotels in Barcelona would probably explore all the options for a longer trip.

Room tip: Apply caution if booking a miniroom (the 10 square metre ones).

Hotel Brick has a great location and within walking distance of many sights. It was very modern and clean! The room had everything we needed. The staff was excellent and very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Shout to Louis who even helped secure a large taxi for us!

Unfortunately, a review like this is necessary so you don’t run into the same issues we ran into. The positives are the room and hotel are both clean and modern. Generally, that would be plenty reason to recommend the hotel. Continue reading …

If you stay here do NOT book the mini room. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in a hotel room in my life. I’ve stayed in NYC where rooms are known to be small, but this place took it to the next level. The bed was tiny and shoved up against a wall. If you’re staying with your partner, one of you will need to climb over the other. If you’ve got any kind of luggage, that’ll take the remaining floor space, literally. We found it almost impossible to open our luggage. Due to the rooms triangle shape everything about the room is simply awkward. You could barely turn around in the shower without hitting a wall. Walking into the bathroom alone was a challenge and I’m not a very large person at all.

If you’re a larger person or needing room for a wheelchair or walker, this room isn’t for you. If you’re traveling as a couple, this room isn’t for you. This was booked through a travel agent so we didn’t know this was the room that was booked. I wish I had, but truth is even the pictures didn’t make this room look as uncomfortable as it was in real life.

This isn’t where our discomfort ended. The ventilation system was pumping outdoor odor into the room. Add the fact the room is small, you can see how this quickly became an issue. I’m also not sure if they have some sort of toilet paper shortage, but we had to ask for TP twice. They never give you more than one and didn’t add any after tidying up the room even though it was obvious we’d need some with 2 nights left in our stay.

Simply, we never looked forward to returning to our room. We never got a decent nights rest. This room shouldn’t be an option for anyone that’s not traveling alone. If you stay in one of the larger rooms you may have a different experience, but this was our experience and it was our only negative experience in Barcelona.

The breakfast is ok. It’s convenient, but you can find better for about the same price. Location was fine. It didn’t seem unsafe to us. It’s right outside some of the major sites so expect to walk or take a cab.

Room tip: Do not book the mini room. I’ve seen larger closets!

I stayed 2 nights here at the end of March. It does not make an impactful impression at first glance because of the simplicity of the decor. But, I think that the hotel puts its effort into making sure that the essentials of a great accommodation are in place: clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot showers, walls that are relatively sound proof. The room and bathroom are small -- it was fine for me, being a petite person, but I imagine could be too cramped for a bigger person. While the hotel is situated on Gran Via -- a very busy commercial street -- I could not hear much traffic noise overnight. Also, the location is excellent -- right by the Plaza Espana and Mount Juic park. The hotel is a great option for someone who is busy touring all day and just wants a clean, comfortable, quiet place to rest at night. I would definitely stay here again if I find myself in Barcelona in the future.
