We stayed at Hotel Del Mar for a weekend break in Barcelona.
Booked via British Airways flight + holiday deal, we had a real bargain.
Arriving at the hotel, it is moments away from Barceloneta Metro Station, and a few moments walk away from the beach, harbour and Gothic Quarter. It’s a really ideal location to base yourself in for exploring Barcelona, with about a 15-20 minute walk to La Rambla.
The staff are absolutely fantastic and friendly. They speak perfect English (which was great, as much as I try to converse in the local language where I can, I wasn’t sure on how well using my broken Spanish would go down in Catalunya l!) and were really helpful.
The hotel building itself is understated but well built. The hotel layout is different to most due to the building, but the lifts were fab, glass walls so you could see out to the inner area of the hotel.
The room was a decent size, bathroom was absolutely fine, the extra bed was nice and comfy for our daughter.
Our only issue at all - was the heat. We were absolutely cooking. We had the window open any time we were there, all night and even held the door ajar when we were in the room and not sleeping. Outside was a balmy 15 degrees in the day. Locals were in coats and scarves, but we were in shorts t-shirts and dresses! The room however, was borderline unbearable the first night. After asking reception about the A/C, they said it doesn’t work as it only provides heat, not cool. Now, this might have just been us Welshies being used to the cooler weather at home, but it was damn hot. The 2nd and 3rd nights were much better though as we left the door and window open for an hour or two before bed.
Breakfast was more than adequate - plenty of options, including toast, sausages, bacon, eggs, fried tomatoes as well as croissants, muffins, doughnuts, a selection of cold meats and cheeses as well as teas, coffees and juices. Whilst not the best breakfast I’ve had, it was free and had plenty to get you set up for the day. There were also a few vending machines for picking up some snacks in the evenings.
We would definitely stay again, location is fab with plenty of connections and lovely staff.
