Nice hotel good location

Reviewed 3 weeks ago
Beautiful hotel, good location.
The staff at reception, restaurant and the security lady were all friendly and helpful.
There are lots of restaurants, cafes and a shopping centre 5 min walk from hotel.

The restaurant staff were helpful when inquiring about allergens for my son. Good breakfast spread.

Great hotel. Good location and friendly, professional staff. Very clean and comfortable. A short walk to the Rambla with lots of restaurants where you can try the Spritzes and Sangria and Paella. Lots of atmosphere around The Rambla in the evening.
We did the Hop on Hop off bus in Barcelona, which takes you to most if the main attractions...such as the SAGRADA FAMILIA and Park Gruel.

All glitz and no glam. This is portrayed as a really nice hotel with the sky tower; and I guess the tower is cool and the view is generally neat from a higher room. The room was OK and on the first night I was at-least moderately satisfied for what I had paid.

On my second day I come back to the room later in the afternoon after sight seeing to find the room extremely hot; turns out the A/C had broken and fridge was leaking. The hotel is completely packed with staff, almost uncomfortably so, you can barely get a buffet item or get into the elevator without dodging and weaving thru their staff all dressed in suits. There is even a guy with a suit on that hovers by the hotel entrance. The front-desk had many of them as well. Turns out their all for show and nothing else.

I call twice about my issues to the front-desk from my hotel room. Both quickly someones says they'll "send someone up". Waiting twice; the first time almost 40-mins and no one ever showed up. When I called again, I had a different person who I had to describe the issue with again. Imagine wasting all this time and stress on your limited PTO.

Finally, now it's night; tired of waiting I go down to the front-desk. No one recollects my calls, I describe the issues again and they offer to move me. What happened to the technician coming to my room to fix it? No one knows, I have to go pack everything and move at almost midnight now.

The new room is the absolute worst in the Hotel, the room absolutely REEKS of cigarette smoke; there is no way they didn't know there is issues with this room. Could barely breathe the smell was so bad. They found the absolute worst, defective, no-sale room and offered to move me to this one, of course. On top of this; there was a loud party going on in the neighboring room, the walls were shaking.

Desperate to just get some sleep at this point I move back to the hot stuffy room; hoping by now since it's night it will have cooled a bit. There is no windows in these rooms and no ventilation.

At check-out; the young girl in a suit with poor english only offers to comp me 1 beer from the min-bar because of my issues. Claiming they did their duty "trying to move me to a new room". Just absolutely ridiculous.

Moral of the story: Melia Sky Barcelona is all marketing. And all of the staff are there to upsell massages and food and services; nothing more. Not to help you. If something goes wrong they do not care nor will provide services to help.

This is NOT a 4-star hotel. The pool is small, and the ground-floor breakfast is weak; with cheese trays and machine coffee.

I want to preface this by saying that the staff were wonderful and the hotel was beautiful, but the inaccessibility dampened our stay.

Writing this negative review makes me feel really sad.

We booked this hotel based on the fact that it had a wheelchair accessible room, but were left disappointed. To begin with, the door to enter the room was not widened so when entering in my wheelchair I kept banging my knuckles.

The main issue was the bathroom. Here there was a wider door and a room with a bath and shower. The grab rails on the bath were too low so I couldn’t get in and out of the bath independently. There was no seat in the shower, so I couldn’t use it at all as I can’t stand for long enough. I have never ever seen a wheelchair accessible shower without a seat.

The sink was lowered to be at a wheelchair users height but the amenities like the hand soap and the extended wall mirror were not lower, so I couldn’t use them without standing, which as I previously mentioned I can’t do for more than 5-10 minutes before it becomes painful.

Because of this shower/bath situation I couldn’t wash independently. My boyfriend had to lift me in and out of the bath.

There were grab rails around the toilet but one of them wouldn’t stay up, making manoeuvring to the seat very awkward.

Elsewhere in the room, the door frames were scuffed, presumably because they were not wide enough. There was a chise-longue in the room that was blocking me from being able to wheelchair around the room.

We also booked a room with a double bed, but were given two single beds pushed together, which is not what we had in mind for a romantic holiday for our anniversary.

What has upset me even further is that I was sent a survey after our stay by the hotel and I told them all the above information. I was told that someone would contact me in 3 days to discuss, but I haven’t heard anything. I have emailed the general manager Miguel to discuss what went wrong but I still haven’t had a response.

Before this experience I was hoping to visit this hotel with my mum, but there’s no way she could help me to wash in these circumstances . I’m hoping that this review will reopen the dialogue with Melia Barcelona Sky and we can find a resolution.

I gave 5 stars for the service, staff, food, views and amenities - I think if they fixed the rooms this would be a 5 star hotel. We stayed 4 nights in the basic Level room. My brother also had a Level room. Both our rooms had flooring that was coming up or not finished (gaps in wood flooring in ours). Not hazardous by any means but doesn't look great, especially when Level rooms are supposed to be "5 star".The views were great and the overall room cleanliness and chamber service good. We didn't spend much time in the room so it wasn't a big deal. Our floor had older carpet and was a bit dark and dingy, also didn't really feel very Level-ish.

The pool is a great space to chill and swim with good service from the bar. Food in the level lounge was consistently good with a few dishes better than others. On Friday night they move happy hour to the 24th floor bar. Level lounge concierge service from Antonino and Julia was great! They are very helpful and friendly. If you need anything go ask them.

Breakfast was very good - use the pod coffee machines instead of the bigger ones for better coffee. A few blocks from the hotel is the L4 subway or the T4 tram which goes to the Zoo / Par de la Ciutadella. Great park and right next to El Born / Gothic. Also 10 minute walk to the beach so overall a great location. Rambla de Poblenou is a nice neighborhood boulevard if you want something less crowded than the main tourist rambla.
