A TOTAL Gem! AMAZING service, gorgeous place....

Review of The Bruce Hotel
Reviewed Jul 25, 2022
Wow! I just returned home (to mid-michigan) from a 4 night trip in Stratford, Ontario. After a fair amount of research, I booked a premium room with a walkout terrace at The Bruce. I had noted in my comments to the hotel that IF a suite became available to alert me. They actually read and remembered my request and called me offering to purchase an upgraded room. I am SO glad I took the offer! Our suite was very notably large - a nice sitting area, a massive bathroom with 2 vanities, party sized shower, deep free-standing tub++. Our 2nd floor suite came with a generous balcony overlooking the rear gardens. The hotel is simply lovely. Twice daily room service. Open self serve coffee bar. Unlimited water. Chilled and heated towels... Original art (ranging from a bronze sculpture, oils, vintage gowns, chandeliers from the 4 Seasons in Toronto+++ BUT the most impressive part of the stay was the STAFF! From Philip and Chantal who greeted us, to Annie, Rob, Luke, Paige and ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE, we were amazed at how kind, thoughtful and professional they ALL were. I've stayed at fine hotels throughout the world (The Peninsula in Chicago, L'hotel in Paris, Hotel Danieli in Venice, Eden Rock in St. Barths, Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton's galore...) The Bruce matched or exceeded any place I've ever stayed. Our U.S. dollar cost of $525 a night was a bargain (particularly given it also included a premium breakfast). GO THERE. STAY AT THE BRUCE! Tell them Mitch and Jim sent you!

Room Tip: All 25 rooms are likely nice. I would ask for a room facing the rear gardens though there is no...

We have never found an hotel we like better anywhere in the world that we like as much as this one. We've known Jennifer Birmingham as customers for years through her extraordinary b&b. She spent years designing this according to her vision. She spent another approx 5 years getting it approved. When you enter the lobby ti feels like a traditional luxury lobby. It's quiet. There are comfortable chairs everywhere to sit, sip a drink or talk. The ceilings everywhere are high. The colors are neutral but not bland. There are all kinds of things in various hallways and landing, you'd have to see for yourself. The rooms are very large. Who'd need a suite? The ceilings approx 10 - 12 ft. The bathroom is my dream. spacious and comfortable. The texture of the tiles on the floor are comfortable to my feet. The restaurant is EXCELLENT. I had a crispy perch that was wonderful. The breakfast omelette was first class, They make their own jams and honey. The patio you'd really like to eat on. Quiet and overlooking some fields. No traffic. I said to my wife isn't it wonderful to stay at a place we really like? I it's small, 25 rooms. The service is fast up close and personal. It looks large because of the large rooms. It looks old fashioned but it is entirely up to date.Free parking. When we go to Stratford Ontario this is the ONLY place we'd stay at. It's was within walking distance to the Festival Theater.
To our minds better than the modern luxury hotels.

This hotel is just spectacular and outstanding. Staff were always kind and attentive. The breakfast (included) alone is worth the stay. Very convenient location. Rooms were comfortable and quiet. Nice pool with option of a resistance current...never seen that before! Met and exceeded our expectations.

The management and staff at the Bruce Hotel were very professional and very courteous. They are 10+ and go a mile to make your suite perfect, to make sure you enjoy your stay and memorable; everything from making sure you get water bottles or bring you coffee or cookies to your room, etc. The Bruce Hotel is short walk to the Stratford Festival Theatre or the new Tom Patterson Theatre, and the Stratford Festival Park and walking trails by the Avon River, etc. They provide information about Stratford, local events and maps about Stratford. The management and staff are well trained and very informed and knowledgeable.

Also the Bruce Hotel Restaurant is excellent. Every dinner appetizers, entrees and desserts are delicious. We stayed for 5 days at the Bruce Hotel and its a gem, we've travelled around the world and the Bruce Hotel and Bruce Hotel Restaurant is a 5-star restaurant and 5-star hotel.

We'll be back.

Room tip: The room suite was excellent. We chose the lower level room suite with the private patio and lovely patio chairs.

This is a truly exceptional hotel. We have stayed in most of the supposed best spots in Southern Ontario. I can say that our experience at the Bruce put the competition to shame.

The amenities and rooms are exceptionally well appointed and clean.

But in a time where everyone is complaining about lack of staff etc. etc. the Bruce shows that these are just excuses.

Without exception the staff were courteous and exceptionally well trained

They seemed to have the common goal of making the customer experience exceptional.

Very well done to ownership and management

We booked a night's stay on a whim, after realizing that we had not booked a second night at another hotel (not in Stratford). In short, we were pleasantly surprised.

Upon arriving, they greeted us at the car waiting to open our doors (wasn't expecting that so bonus points there). The check-in process was friendly and simple. We were escorted to our room and along the way, our guide provided us an overview of the hotel. Once we arrived at our room, our guide went over some details about the room as well. The room itself was more than we expected. Spacious and extremely clean. The bathroom was impressive and provided all the amenities expected and more. The wet bar is a nice touch and just down the hall (outside the room) was a dedicated pantry with ice, coffee, team, milk, cream, sugars, and sweeteners. You can also make your coffee/tea in the pantry area, which includes a milk/cream frother as well.

We didn't use the indoor pool area but wished we had. It's was extremely clean and very inviting with what appeared to be a separate jacuzzi hot pool.

Topping things off, there's a "cookie hotline" on the phone - that's right, you call and they bring you free cookies...it's a tough life :)

Our stay included breakfast, which we had in the dining room. The hostess was very friendly, along with the serving team members. The food we ordered was brought to us in a timely manner and was delicious.

Overall, this was a great experience and a wonderful surprise. It's priced higher than your standard hotel chain but there is nothing standard about this hotel. It was fantastic and we plan to stay here again.
