Not enough for the money

Reviewed Jul 30, 2017
Stayed here a couple of nights. It was clean. It was very hot. There were 3 stand alone air conditioners that were very noisy, but couldn't seem to actually get the place cool enough, and it was hard to sleep when they were on. I think a more permanent air conditioning solution is in order. The balcony seemed very scalable, so leaving windows open was not an option. One bedroom that had no windows was especially stuffy. Very quiet. The common hallway was extremely narrow and had obviously been banged up a lot and needed paint. There was supposedly free wifi, but even my "wifi whisperer" teenager couldn't actually get it to work. (We could log on, just couldn't actually get anything from the Internet using it.)

Beware that because this isn't a "normal" hotel, there is not staff at the desk 24/7. From what locals told us, these were condos that didn't fully sell, so it was partially turned into a hotel.Staff are there from approximately 9am-9pm so if something happens that you need to get ahold of someone in the night, this might not be possible. (Maybe they have an emergency #, I'm not sure).

OK! Check in was terrible! We picked this hotel because its literally 2 min from the ferrie and we were arriving in Nanaimo at 4pm and check in was at 4pm. First off we cant find the front door, this may seems silly but its not obvious at all. But...its at the front along the street, haha. Anyways, there is a sign that says check in for that date only is not until 5pm. So here we are with a 7 month old who has had enough for the day and now we need to do something for an hour?? Come 5pm there is now a line up of people at the door and one very rushed lady who has to open the hotel, turn things on and plug in her debit machine (:p). One thing that I questioned was they photo copy your drivers license, when I asked why she just said they have to. There is ZERO reason for anyone to need to photocopy your ID!

Walking into the room we were surprised by the size. There was one smaller room at the front with an ensuite, large kitchen/Living/Dining Area with a bathroom off to the side, the second larger bedroom and the balcony looking out to the marina. The view was very nice and we enjoyed watching the float planes come and go.

Overall the room was clean and had all the needed amenities. My only feedback would be if you are going to provide a tassimo machine and coffee perhaps provide some cream and sugar?

Parking is also only out front of the hotel along a busy road which we were disappointed with.

Reviewed November 13, 2016 via mobile

Stayed here in October and again in November. I saw hair in the shower and outside of the shower but thought okay I guess this can happen. On my second trip to the hotel, I realized that the cleaning staff don't actually clean. Not sure the hotel even has a vacuum for the area carpets. I stayed three nights, on the second day, I walked into my room and the cleaners were there. The one cleaner had removed all my sheets and put them on the ground to re-make. I told her she shouldn't do that. I told the cleaners that the carpets are dirty and to make sure they clean them and pointed out the hair in and amongst the shower. I left and told the manager "Harp" about the dirty rugs and the hair in and amongst the shower. I also told her about the dead flies and bugs in the light fixtures. When I returned to the hotel, I saw the rugs weren't vacuumed, hair in and around the shower. This is how I knew the rugs weren't vacuumed- I FOUND A FINGERNAIL IN THE RUG IN THE LIVING ROOM!

I immediately went down to the front desk and "Elle" super nice, wrote down everything and called the manager. I demanded another room. She said they were full but could give me a room on the 2nd floor. Elle took me down to the new room to see if this would work. This room was even worse! It smelt like swamp, rugs were even dirtier and long hair balls on the living room rug. The white marble tile once had light grout but is now black cause they don't clean it. (The tile is consistent throughout the suites and you can tell it was a light colour by the tile connecting to the walls) Elle did a great job by documenting the dirtiness to report to the manager. Elle changed my sheets, picked up the fingernail and I stayed in the same room.

The next day, the manager said they will be doing a deep clean. Well, when I returned to the room, carpets were not cleaned even tho they said they were. I know they weren't cause there was onion shell remaining on the kitchen one. Hand towels were dirty and stains on the towels. Completely gross!!!!!

***i didn't even get a refund or discounted price for any of my troubles.

**********the hotel also takes a photocopy of your license and keeps your credit card on file********* unacceptable

***and huge wolf looking spiders amongst the property. One was tryin to access my suite under the door. Saw another one outside. None inside the suite tho. Great spider viewing.

We were thankful that a room came availalble at short notice on the August long weekend. Usually we don't stay in a "presidential suite" but it was the last room available in Nanaimo hotels! Wrap around balcony and modern kitchenette; futon for the kids and separate bedroom for the parents. Balcony overlooks Marina. Front desk only open till 11 pm.

We ended up with the last room available which was the Presidential Suite. Set up very nice with a full kitchen, dining and sitting area and a separate bedroom. Marble floors and wall mounted TV in living area and bedroom. Very clean and comfy. Two French doors open up to a wrap around patio, and view of the marina.

Room tip: All rooms face the water. It also has underground parking as not much room on the main road.
