I was worried about staying here after reading the reviews but there was difficulty finding a hotel on this busy week. Nice self contained suite which should have indicated a very pleasant stay overlooking the marina. We did not have the issues of noise that others commented on although being in an end unit may have helped.
However, it didn't look like any cleaning had been done except for the basics...bed was clean and bathroom appeared to have been cleaned At least the towels were replaced. Floors were very filthy, and it was very visible on white marble! As did the dirt and stains on the stainless steel appliances and black granite counter tops. You would think with such surfaces they would think to at least wipe them before renting! The inside of the fridge had juice? spilled all over it.
Very disappointed...and hate having to worry what else might be there that is not readily visible. Won't recommend or come back.

At first glance it seemed nice, spacious and very modern. Beautiful view of the harbour and a nice deck (aside from the folding lawn chairs that where soaked) but then we noticed the hair in the fridge which to me, means it hasn't been cleaned. And the tomatoes in the sink which had obviously been overlooked. Then my impression of the cleanliness of the place started to faultier. At 400 a night, I shouldn't be worried about whether my sheets have been washed.

My husband booked this room by the harbour in what was suppose to be a 'boutique style' hotel. Seeing as it was my birthday and our anniversary, he booked what he was told was the 'Presidential Suite' .... NOT. We looked all over for parking, knew we were in the area but couldn't seem to find the place... ended up down the small winding road to the Marinaside restaurant & had a drink ... told the place was right behind us - looked strange because it looked more like a condo building... it IS but I guess many owners rent out.
Finally got parked and climbed UP the huge hill, holding on to a sign to make it up... there's NO stairs to get up, nor is there a real path way... only feasible way for most people to get up is to go back up the small winding road - up the hill.. strange !
Got to our room and it was sort of as the picture shows - all white with dark furniture... however there was a glass side table beside the couch leading to the bathroom and bedroom and we had a challenging time getting between the table/chairs and the side table. The rectangle glass table was in front of the L shaped couch long ways so it was again - challenging to get to sit on the couch or get tot he 2nd glass door ... which were left unlocked when we arrived ND the next day as well.... why wouldn't they lock them in case I forget ?? I don't care if no one can get up there -- I have a vivid imagination and some devious people are wall climbers ... For the room we wee staying in, we thought the furniture was too big - not scaled to the room - made it awkward & uncomfortable.
The lady who was cleaning the room - not English speaking but very nice, came in when we first arrived to give us soap for the bathroom and check the place -- shortly after we found a half used cigarette butt on the middle of the bathroom floor - difficult to miss because the floor and everything else is white .... Also, the light in the bathroom around the mirror is really bad for applying make-up (listen up guy who thought to put that in) The guy at the front desk was nice and helpful but I would never stay again nor would my husband and we would not suggest to any friends... The restaurant directly below however is GREAT !!
On the upside of the accommodation is that is DID overlook a lovely little marina and we walked downtown which took us about 15 min,

We booked through hotels.com. Soon as we arrived they told us to cancel our hotels.com reservations and they would save us money. So i did!! obviously to save 200.00. Soon as i opened the door a strong smell / odor overtook my family and me. we almost walked away! and should have.we asked front desk for air freshener which she had readily available half can of. Upon looking around we decided it would be tolerable. My wife which is a clean fanatic located rotten built up food between stove and counter tops, dirty dishes, white creamy stains on couches and on the fake fire place. There were red which appeared to be blood stains on sheets.black lighter burns on ceiling. And the walls are paper thin. The view is the best,It is all i have to say good. It does not make up for the fact that when we left they turned around and charged our credit card for a broken couch leg. which is not true, and smoking in suite which is also not true. This hotel owner is shady and should be charged with fraud for stealing money from people whom are honest about their stay. They have too much power to charge additional revenue fees for themselves. They prey on the public. If your looking for a resort go to parksville or qualicum beach. Avoid this hotel. Unless your looking for sub standard accommodations inwhich there is a good possibility that a prostitute has used before you. Because that's how you feel when your inside their so called presidential suite. That is not even suited for a dog. Like a horror movie or a cheap motel movie that becomes reality. Also i feel that they will commit fraud on your credit card.As they did to myself. I will be seeking my money back, For the vacation rental. As well as the fees that were taken without honesty. No exceptions for them! even if it costs me more to help the next person. Enjoy the pics below of first impressions.Of the the worst Nanaimo resort.

As you can tell by my reviews, I have travelled a bit and the one thing I hate is misrepresented bussinesses. The photos of this "hotel" are a definite misrepresentation. What you have is a oner bedroom time share type facility that they turn the into two bedrooms through a lock-off. It is the lock-off they are purporting as hotel rooms. They are tiny to the point you can barely get around the bed and the wake up call iis that of the next room as the walls are paper thin. I could go on but you get my point so there is no point. OK one more thing - the staff need to purchase some personalities.

Only one comment NOT RECOMMENDED and NEVER AGAIN FOR ME.

The hotel is ok but needs more mantenence.
The staff is very kind an the view is very nice with a few meters from the marina

I ended here after looking I 4 hotels and all of them were full so I had to take this as final optio n.

It's not a bad place but it could be better managed.

I admit that after reading previous reviews I was very concerned about our stay. From the moment we checked in my concerns were gone. The front desk folks were really awesome and helpful. We were given access to underground parking, our room was exactly as pictured with the exception of the couch which was a futon. There were no noise issues and we loved having the full kitchen and the spaciousness of the room!
We spent 4 nights and we will come back. Thank you!

So disappointed in how our stay was. They charge you through the noise for there "private" rooms and all we heard was another couple. All night. The front desk women was not very friendly nor did she let us know there was no spa on site (walked around the building looking for hours) the rooms had lots of space, beautiful marble although filled with dollar store amenities and lots of hair, no coffee, and garbage on our deck. All in all I would NEVER go back nor will I EVER recommend it to anyone.

This is a new condo hotel that has an ok location. The room is ok for 100.00 but you can hear the TV and smell the cooking in the adjoining unit. The folks who were staying next door were not all that noisy but you can hear everything clear as a bell, tv dialogue, drink blender, doors you get the idea. I thought it was odd that they took my payment when I arrived. Now i know why.

I travel regularly for business and have seen my fair share of hotels. I normally book the Coast Hotel when traveling through Nanaimo, however they were all booked and so I took a chance on the new Marinaside Resort. I was NOT impressed and this is why....

1. I did NOT feel safe here at all. As a female business traveller I did not appreciate the large glass door to my room that did not latch properly. The only recourse I had was to close the safety latch at the top of the door because the door itself did not close correctly to allow the actual door lock to catch. Nobody was available to fix the issue and I was told "all the doors are like that." Well, I feel so much better now. Yikes!

2. No parking (if the 5-6 spaces on the road are taken, you must park down below and in behind the hotel. There isn't a set of stairs or elevator to bring you up to the lobby so you must then walk through the parking lot, up the long winding driveway and back around to the front). Very strange set-up!

3. Room was dirty - it wasn't difficult to notice the dust bunnies between the bed and the night stand on the sparkly, stark-white floors. Obviously the room hadn't been thoroughly vacuumed (or vacuumed at all for that matter). Also, the bathroom products were obviously being refilled in cheap dollar-store type bottles as the screw-on lids were grungy. I also noticed a small stain (about the size of a penny) on one of the pillows. Gross!

4. Room was very small. I was constantly stepping over my suitcase when moving around the room (no place to put your suitcase but on the ground or on the bed)

4. The room was VERY warm 24.5 degrees and the only way to cool it down was to use a stand-up air conditioning unit that was extremely noisy and not very effective. It wasn't safe to open the window because

5. Decor was like sleeping in an asylum! Stark white. White everywhere...on the floors, the walls, the bedding, the window blind.

6. The bathrobes were missing the robe closure tie. Not very useful.

7. Noisy road traffic (unless you wanted to drown it out with the even noisier air conditioning unit)

8. Nobody at the front desk when I checked out at 7:45 am so I had to leave the key on the desk (which was left completely unattended). Made me think twice about anyone who may have had their photocopied credit card exposed. Again, some training and better business practices are in order here.

9. Bed was uncomfortable and felt cheap (similar to a hide-a-bed where you can feel the springs) and the pillows were too thick. Would have been nice to have a variety on the bed to choose from.

10. The location was good for me as I needed to be close to the ferry terminal but if you want to be within walking distance to shops and restaurants in Nanaimo, this is not the place for you. Again, stay at the Coast and save yourself the disappointment.

In a nutshell, I do not recommend this hotel. RUN, don't walk away from this place. Pay the extra $$ and stay at the Coast!
