We decided to travel here for our honeymoon for 10 days...We have been to several All-Inclusive Resorts in the Playa area over the last 10 years, and this resort just didn't stack up...
We had been in communication with Maia who is the guest services manager, months in advance to help plan & coordinate our trip so it went well...We even explained our only flight option in the package was with JetBlue, putting us at the resort before noon...Although check-in was 3 p.m., we were assured we would have our room upon arrival....NOT
4 hours later, after several pleas, we were directed to our room, tired, hot, and exhausted.
Upon arrival in our room, we had an active bee hive on our deck, along with termites parading into the walls, and the deck & bathroom covered in small ants. In addition, the safe was locked, requiring their locksmith to come up to program...4 phone calls later, and no locksmith, and no exterminator, rendering the patio deck useless. We were not going to leave our room with passports, money, and vital personal belongings out with no safe, so we individually grabbed food at the snack bar, and ate in our room...
Finally, the next morning after 2 more phone calls, Maia arrived to help us resolve the 2 issues..
The bees were removed, but the termites & ants were still present throughout our 10 days.
We paid for the premium upgrade all-inclusive, however, unless you specified the brand of alcohol you wanted, you got the off-brand Mexican liquor.
This is definitely NOT a 4 star resort. The buffet is very redundant, you had to special order any omelets which took 20-30 minutes, and staffing was very low.
The resort itself is very nice. Pools are kept up, grounds are clean, but beach seaweed was bad. The barriers put up to limit the Sargassum were removed during the week, and the water quality & smell only got worse. The 2 specialty restaurants were a saving grace. Our visit to the sister properties of Coco Beach & Reef 28 were eye opening..Much nicer, way better offerings especially with food. The buffet was actually open for regular self-serve which was nice.
The spa was one of the high points as well, as well as dinner on the beach with Ricardo.
Our next visit will be back to one our higher rated All-Inclusives like Occidental or Grand Sirenis, which are actually in the Same price range, but include 5 specialty restaurants, and 12+ overall food options...
