Budget average hotel

Reviewed Mar 10, 2023via mobile
This place was just ok. You get what you pay for in this budget hotel. Only 1 fancy restaurant you can visit once. The buffet was ok with enough choice if somewhat repetitious.

The safe didn't work- not in our room nor our friends room and the whole place in desperate need of repairs.

Staff are hard working, friendly and try to be helpful.

In four weeks we never had hot shower - no hot water! No escape from Loud music that played all day. Buffet very mediocre - n0 variety. On the plus side it was a lovely location, staff friendly and helpful. Our best encounter was Valentine’s dinner on beach - fantastic.

Room tip: Don’t go there!

We had a great time here. Pool, beach and service is great. It’s all we needed. Ya it’s a little older and we heard some people had shower issues, but that didn’t ruin our trip. We had a double superior room and it was right by the pool which was great for hanging out. The food is mediocre but we still ate it. The service is amazing by the pool. Always friendly staff, quick and accurate. If you’re looking for fancy things, this probably isn’t the place for you. But if you like a nice pool, great service and a functional room then this place serves.
A couple tips, make sure you get the all inclusive, and at the buffet dinner ask for a menu to get some nice options.
We stayed in room 115 and it was great
Also the wifi was fine. We didn’t have to use data once.

Room tip: Manage your expectations when you’re here. It’s not super fancy, but we had a great stay. Upgrade to superior, it was worth the little extra

The workers are so kind. They really made my experience 5 star. Thanks to a previous reviewer who mentioned Raul in entertainment, I also found Mauro helpful. Really enjoyed doing yoga, aquafit and Spanish lessons.

The food was between a 6/7. It was fine and was different each day. They often had items marked as vegetarian. Always a nice bean/chickpea/lentil salad, fresh and cooked veggies, pasta. They didn't always label what it was though (so once I though I was getting pesto but it was jalapenos). I wish there was a plant-based milk for coffee. I was happy with it, but nothing I said wow! about.

I wish there was more of an intro so I could understand what we were allowed to do between the various resorts. For example I could do Spanish lessons, yoga and aquafit at Grand Pelicanos but wasn't allowed to go on the walking tour with the other hotel.

Warning to anyone booking Grand Pelicanos- it's under construction til at least the summer and they use loud equipement. Our poor yoga instuctior practically lost his voice trying to guide us. I wouldn't have liked staying there and found this place more quiet around the pool.

Room tip: Tipping got me far here. If you tip 20 or 40 pesos the pool waiters will help you get a lounge and even watch your things.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Noisy, dirty, food is lousy, no security, families in the pool until late at night, kids, foods and drinks in the pool. Horrible experience..shame on Westjet Vacations for promoting this property.

Where to start, so many bad things. New management has made this resort go way down hill. I'll start with cleanliness, our mattress was moldy, our walls and ceiling were moldy, and the bathroom was rotting away. All pictured. The mold appeared on the walls and ceiling the longer we were there, it was obvious that they painted it before we came in to cover it up and it came back during our stay.
The food was inedible, so salty and pretty much mush. We noticed that the uneaten food from dinner would be used for a stew for breakfast the next morning.
The pool bars would close by 6pm so the only place to get drinks was at the dark sports bar that looked like an ex strip bar at the far end of the property. The lobby bar has obviously been shut down which would have been the nicest bar on the property. It's a shame that wasn't open, no where to hang out at night and have some drinks.
The staff physically looked like they hated their jobs but I don't blame them, they weren't getting tipped because of the crappy resort amenities. The restaurant manager had RBF and front desk staff would make you feel like it was your problem if you complained about any of the above issues.
There was so much more little things that happened during our 2 week stay that was just the tipping point from everything else.
Just don't stay here, don't book here. It's awful!
