Rustic, secluded getaway with incredible views

Reviewed Jun 16, 2024
We had the most amazing time at Crystals! This place is perfect for someone looking for a secluded place to stay with incredible views of the rainforest and mountains. We stayed in "Papaya," a spacious villa with its own pool and truly spectacular views. The daily breakfast was delicious and someone came to clean our pool each morning. The onsite restaurant, Treetop, wowed us with a new dinner menu each night and fabulous custom cocktails. The staff were all super friendly and it was easy to arrange transportation, excursions, and even an in-room massage. The air conditioning in the bedrooms worked well (there is not A/C in the living area), and the kitchen was well-equipped. To understand if this is the right fit for you, consider that you will need to be comfortable coexisting with critters (insects, geckos, frogs, birds, etc.), especially since you will want to leave most of the doors open to let in the breeze. This is not a "luxury" resort, rather, it is a rustic and family-run sanctuary in close proximity to nature. For us, this was a perfect fit and we enjoyed our stay immensely.

Crystals! This little place was recommended to us a few years back and I'm glad we stayed here. We stayed here for 4 nights after staying at a resort further up the coast. While this is not a resort, do not overlook it. This little hotel is private, romantic and charming. It is also children friendly. We stayed in Sugarcane and it was huge! Everything was clean, comfortable and uniquely decorated. The view from the pool is was sold us on this cottage. We wanted to sit in the pool and enjoy the view of the Pitons and that's exactly what we got. You're up in the hillside with an amazing breeze which actually makes it quite cool and well needed! Yes there is some noise from the birds, frogs etc. But that's all part of being in the forest and the experience. You're also surrounded by palm and Mango trees! We ate at the restaurant twice it was so good and you cant beat the view in the restaurant. We got to meet Monica and she was the sweetest, giving us tips to explore Soufriere. The staff were great and brought breakfast to our cottage every morning, which was delicious (I wish I asked for the pancake recipe!) While we were there, we wanted to explore the area. The staff set us up with a driver that we ended up utilizing for 3 days, he goes by the nickname "The General ", and he was great. The volcano mud baths, Botanical gardens Soufriere beach and Sugar beach are a short drive away. If you do choose to rent a vehicle and drive, you'll definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The driveway is a bit of a challenge. But DONT let that put you off from coming here! There is a full kitchen in each unit so I do recommend stocking up on your favorite beverages and snacks. With the full kitchen, you get the main appliances you need ie toaster, coffeemaker, French press, water kettle, plates, cups/glasses, utensils. They do stock you with some tea, coffee, sugar, salt/pepper, milk. Bring binoculars! You can see the volcano from Sugarcane and for bird watching. Come here and enjoy the peace and being with nature!

Thank you so much for your lovely review.
I agree the public road up to Crystals is a challenge, although every year when we close in September we try to improve on it as much as we can.
Thank you and hope we see you again soon.

I had not been to Crystals for a year and wow, how they have worked to make the property even greater than before. We stayed in Silver Palms which now has an additional walkway entrance, again with a great view, which is much appreciated after a few cocktails created by their mixologist, Hamilton. Breakfast was tasty and as always has a Caribbean twist. We like the breeze at night however there are now sliding doors/windows if you prefer aircon. This was my friend's first visit to the Treetop Restaurant and she loved the view over Soufriere Bay to the Pitons. I advise you to book to eat at least once in the restaurant, run by Solange, Monica's daughter, who had devised its fusion menu. All in all a great stay, thanks to Monica and Martin.

Room tip: Have a 4x4 so driving up the road is easy. Book the restaurant as it is very popular with locals and visitors alike.

Crystal Villas is situated in a stunning location in St. Lucia, offering guests a memorable and immersive experience of the island's natural beauty. The Papaya villa view was amazing as noted in other reviews. The kitchen was stocked with essential items like sugar, coffee, water, tea, and milk, which was a thoughtful touch and made the start of the week convenient. The outdoor show presented by the local wildlife, including frogs, snails, and lizards, added a unique and enchanting aspect to the stay. It is really a cool bathroom and not something I have seen before.
The master bedroom's noise level due to the wildlife might not suit everyone, especially light sleepers. We had trouble getting used to all the wildlife at night and could not sleep well. I am sure for others it will be calming. Additionally, the second bedroom requires a new mattress to enhance the comfort level of the accommodation. The staff at Crystal Villas was exceptional. Bradley, in particular, was instrumental in ensuring guests had a well-planned itinerary, assisting with arrangements for a driver and other activities. The daily breakfast was delightful, and the overall service was warm and welcoming. The gentleman who cleans the pool each day is an amazing person and I enjoyed chatting with him each morning.
The onsite treetop restaurant provided a magical and memorable dining experience, offering guests a great night out. One consideration for guests is the remote location of the villa. Transport to the beach and town can be costly, with a $60 US taxi ride to the beach and a $40 US ride to the town. Guests should factor this into their budget as it can add up quickly. Crystal Villas St Lucia offers a unique and authentic St. Lucian experience with its stunning location, immersive wildlife, and exceptional staff. While there are some areas for improvement, such as the bedroom comfort, the overall stay was enjoyable and well-suited for families.

Thank you for your very honest review. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay overall. We have recently installed double-glazed glass sliding doors in the master bedroom of the Papaya Villa for added comfort, particularly for guests who prefer not to hear the sounds of nature. Additionally, the outdoor bathroom has been updated and now looks amazing.

Regarding the mattress, we did not update it as it is only 6 months old. However, we do have special foam toppers available for our beds for those who prefer a softer sleeping surface.

I'm sorry to hear that you were not informed about the availability of the foam toppers during your stay. Please note that the taxi fare of US $40 is to go to Soufriere and return to Crystals, not for one-way travel, and this rate is set by the taxi association.

Thank you so much for staying with us.

We stayed in the Papaya villa. It was a fantastic experience, I don’t think we will ever stay anywhere with such fantastic views. We are at Treetops & the food was wonderful.
The only thing which would have added to the experience was an earlier check in and later check out time as we were only there for 1 night.

Thank you so much for your lovely review.
Great to hear you enjoyed your stay and our restaurant.
unfortunately, it is not always possible to give an early check-in and later check-out when we have arrivals as our villas are large and require a a lot of time for cleaning
Thank you for staying with us hope you return and visit us again one day.

My partner and I had the most amazing stay at Crystals. We spent two nights in Sugar Cane and then extended our stay by an extra night in Calabash. Both were furnished brilliantly, with great views of the jungle hillside and both Pitons.

The staff were amazing. Simone, Aaron, Peter and others were great in helping us feel settled in to our rooms and were always available to help. Bradley from their tour desk organised car hire that we could collect and drop off at the airport, which was seamless and communication was great.

We couldn’t recommend it highly enough and we’d love to come back!
