Booked a one night stay at Toby's, i've always seen this hotel pop up on my search of Montego bay so i decided to see what it was like.
At Check in the first receptionist i met wasn't too friendly and told me my room wouldn't be ready until 3pm due to a lot of late check outs. I understand most hotels have the 3pm check in policy however it was the way she communicated it that was borderline rude. I then went to the restaurant onsite to have some lunch while i waited. I had the red peas soup, the waitress told me it was finished then came to me a few minutes later to say they had some more. When it came it was watered down as if they just added hot water to the soup to extend it. tasted like hot water and peas, i didn't drink it and thankfully they didn't charge me for it. I then ordered the Oxtail, it wasn't the greatest Oxtail i've had and i didn't end up finishing it, to my surprise after receiving the bill, they are charging $25 USD for an oder of Oxtail which in my opinion is well over priced.
After eating at around 3pm i went back to the front desk to check in, thankfully there was a different receptionist (an older more mature lady) who was much nicer than the first lady. she was much friendlier and checked me in with no issues.
The room was ok, and what you would expect at this price point, they had not fridge or iron in the room, but it has AC and a TV. There were no towels in the room but a quick call to front desk and they delivered towels to the room. I was in room 39, there was hot water in the tap however you had to run the pipe for about 20 mins before the hot water would come. Also the bath tub would clog up and i would be standing in a puddle of water every time i took a shower.
The security guy at the front was very friendly and helped me with my bags to the room.
There are 2 pools on the property, one seemed a lot older than the other, however both pools did not live up to the pictures on the site, seems as if those pictures were taken a very long time ago and the pools are not maintained as well as they should be.
