Good hotel

Reviewed 3 weeks ago
Lovely looking chalet style hotel. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the mountains. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was good. The staff here were all friendly and helpful. Would certainly recommend here.

This hotel is one of the hidden gems in Interlaken West. A mere 9-minute walk from the Bahnhof, located in the Unterseen municipality, in a more peaceful area of the neighborhood.

Located at the corner of Seestrasse and Schulhaustrasse. Entrance is on the left side as you enter Schulhaustrasse. The hotel has 2 buildings. The front building have views of mountains and valley. The rear building has other rooms and a bar(wasn’t able to check it).

First impression is the facade, it is in Swiss style chalet with the iconic bright red Swiss cow statue in the front garden. Many passersby always take selfies as they walk by. It is such a fun attraction!

Staff is very friendly and accomodating. Sarah, Marianne and a male receptionist(didn’t get his name) all very helpful with check-in, checkout and intermediate requests. Thank you all!

I was assigned a corner room with lots of windows and scintillating views of the mountains, the street and the front yard. There is a stair well and elevator to use to go up.

My room was for single person but it was roomy enough and comfortable with a single bed. There is no air conditioning but it was cool when I stayed so didn’t need to use the provided electric fan. It is pretty quiet in the evenings. Because of the wood floors, there could be some creaking noise as you walk on it but this is normal for this kind of building.

There is a kettle, coffee, tea, a safe, small TV. Room is cleaned everyday and replenished. Breakfast is included in my plan and served in the in-house dining area. It is quite good. Self-serve buffet style but wait staff are attentive and helpful.

I definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again if given another opportunity. The price is bit above average but well worth the stay amenities and access. Select a room facing the mountain side, it will make your memories last a lifetime!

Room tip: A great stay for location and amenities, highly recommended for budget trips

In a great location, 5 or 10 minutes walk from Interlaken West station. Very friendly staff, our room had balcony facing the main road with mountain view. No noise issues at night. Hotel is on the local bus road and you get a free bus pass for your stay.

Good continental breakfast, meats, bread, cheese and scrambled eggs.

A minor negative was that the bathroom space was a little small, the overbath shower not ideal, and the bathroom needed a bit of cosmetic updating.

Would we stay there again? Most certainly yes. This was our second visit, albeit 20+ years apart.

We stayed here for two weeks early September and enjoyed beautiful weather and stunning views of the snow capped mountains. We upgraded to a room with balcony which certainly came in handy due to the weather and balmy evenings, and meant we could open the door and window.

The room was very clean with twin beds and separate duvets which are typical of many European hotels, and a very good idea. We stayed in the Annexe a few steps away from the Reception and main Hotel. The Breakfast Room was light and well appointed with a paper placemat of the Alps for each guest. The breakfast is typical Continental with the addition of Scrambled Eggs and the selection of cheeses and bread were delicious. The two ladies we saw most days were called Nicole and Nicolette and were most helpful and gave us tips on places to visit.

The Railway Station at Interlaken West was about a ten minute walk away and buses stop just across the road from the Hotel. We were given a local transport pass for buses in and around Interlaken and we went to several places on the two Lakes Brienzee and Thunersee. The Interlaken Area Swiss Rail Pass is well worth purchasing at a cost which gives you unlimited travel on both Rail, Mountain Railways, Eiger Express, Cable cars, Jungfraujoch and Lake Steamers and upgrading to First Class is well worth the extra cost as some of the trains can be very busy. This makes it so easy to get on and off trains as there is no inconvenience of trying to buy tickets from machines. If you are staying in the Interlaken area it is essential to research the available travel tickets for the area otherwise it is extremely expensive to do individual trips.

We have been to Switzerland and are returning again staying at Zermatt. We travelled to Geneva Airport which was not a good experience as we had to queue for a long time going through Passport Control again and we almost missed our flight home.

Room tip: Annexe Rooms with Balcony don't have creaky floorboards

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Interlaken west train station and the town centre.
The staff are all friendly, pleasant and helpful.
Rooms cleaned daily.
Free WiFi.
The breakfast consists of juice, fruit salad, fresh fruit, yogurts, nuts, cereal, meats and cheeses and scrambled egg. There are crossaints and fresh bread and sliced bread for toasting, also an assortment of jams.
It was the same each day, but it was sufficient.
Only down side I found was being an older property with wooden floorboards it could get noisy above.
Apart from that I would recommend.

Room tip: Get a top floor room if you can.

Highly recommend this hotel
Staff were lovely and helpful at all times
Barman Fari was a great conversationalist which was nice as I was travelling alone and he was amazingly pleasant to chat to and knowledgeable about local and surrounding areas
Food was great and staff serving breakfast were always smiling and helpful
In fact all the staff were very able to switch languages at the drop of a hat,the girl on reception was lovely
don’t miss the free sauna(book 1hour before) oh it was lovely
Breathtaking view of snowy mountains from my window ,so beautiful
Only a few minutes walk from train station(Interlaken west) small tip if your ticket provider has booked your journey to Interlaken ost(east) get off a stop early at west station as ost is another 20 mins walk, pleasant walk but I had heavy backpack
Kettles in rooms with coffee sachets, small tip if your an English tea drinker like myself buy milk or request at desk they may provide if asked
Room had both bath and shower which was fab for me as alot of holiday stays there are only showers (which I personally dislike)
I am over 60 and was a solo traveller but felt very safe throughout my stay
I climbed Harder Klum whilst visiting as funicular was off for winter, amazing views but very hard climb and not for the feint hearted (or unfit legs)
I cannot recommend this place enough
A beautiful stay in a more than beautiful location
Stay in this 180 year old chalet in this beautiful town for a perfect Swiss alpine experience
