First off this place is located a stone's throw away from the most stunning sight in Barcelona, the imposing Sagrada Familia.
I had read some very good reviews about this place so decided to give it a try. I think what best sums it up is: simple everyday food done well.
Instead of ordering a main course (to be honest, I didn't find anything in the mains that made me want to try it, although I do accept that this has to do with my personal tastes and not with the quality of the menu) I preferred to order 3 of the smaller plates which I had found a lot more interesting.
I ended up having the best burrata of my life (with basil pesto and balsamic glaze), a delicious tomato salad with tuna belly and simple but delicious patatas bravas cooked perfectly. Accompanied by a refreshing catalan beer, the bill came to 35 euro, not cheap.
Waiter was extremely eager and friendly. Contributed to an overall pleasant experience.

Cosy place near the Sagrada Familia with excellent food.
The best part has been the warm welcoming of the people working there in particular Jose Maria and Salvatore. both of them were very professional, friendly and with an excellent customer service. They made us appreciate the food even more and they even took a moment to share our hen do celebration

We came here after a tour to escape the sun and bask in some air conditioning.
After recognizing we spoke English, the establishment set us up with a waiter who could communicate with us. As travelers who do not speak the native tongue, it is always appreciated to be able to order in our own language.
For drinks, we ordered tinto de verano, an off-menu item recommended to us by our guide. It’s a light, refreshing summer drink with red wine, a single lemon slice, and some soda I believe. You order this for the cool relief it provides and NOT to get drunk. It is soft and truly soothes the warmth of the Spanish summer sun.
We just wanted a small plate, so we ordered octopus with truffled mash potatoes off the menu. The octopus was delightfully palatable. Soft and cooked to perfection. The truffle flavor was noticeable enough but not too strong to overpower the dish.
Even the complimentary bread and butter was amazing! I dislike tomatoes, but the crushed tomato spread was super fresh. The butter melted in your mouth in savory goodness. The bread was soft and warm on the inside and crunchy and warm in the exterior
Afterwards, our waiter provided us with a shot I cannot recall the name of, but it had a foam of egg whites adorned upon it with hints of an acidic juice and rosemary. Airy and refreshing as well.
Would certainly come back again and recommend to all my friends.

We ordered two different dishes with poached egg. Both eggs were raw. We also ordered a lobster dish that cost 18 euros and received five small pieces of uncooked lobster. When we ordered the check they had charged us for a dish we had ordered, but didn’t receive because they were out of octopus. All in all a bad experience.

Thank you for taking the time to provide valuable feedback about our restaurant. We apologize that your experience was less than ideal, however both dishes you mentioned are very delicated. Poached eggs and a lobster require few minutes of cooking or the result would be boiled eggs and a rubbery lobster. We came as two families based on recommendation, location is near to La Sagrada Familia, the food was a good quality, service was very attentive, everything was cool until we got our bill. They tried to charge us 120 eur for 2 small pieces of seabass for the kids!!! We questioned it, and we were advised that the price is correct. After some minutes later another waiter came and apologized for making a mistake on the bill. We felt that had we not challenged this they would have overcharged us which in our opinion was not a mistake but an attempt to rip us off. It’s such a shame because we liked the place but we would never come back based on this experience. Make sure you check your bill carefully if you decide to go there.

Had we just had tapas at this restaurant this would probably have been a 5* review as that was excellent. Great garlic prawns, croquettes and Patatas bravas and more.
However we also wanted paella, but as a tapas option like most other places. The waiter insisted the portions were so small that we would need 4 illustrating smaller then the side plates. It wasn’t. They were full size main portions. We also asked for seafood and a meat option, but received mushrooms and what we think was black pudding. The scallops were literally raw and slimy on the seafood one and we ate less than half.
The absolute stinger at the end, was that we had been charged a whopping 80 euros for just the paella (basically 4 portions of savoury rice!). An overall bill totalling 160 euros, which included one beer and otherwise non alcoholic drinks.
So if the waiter was disappointed that we left without leaving the tip that he went out of his way to ensure we knew wasn’t included….I hope this explains why.
Want amazing paella and tapas? Head further up the road to Sagrada Tapas on the right hand side. Absolutely outstanding food and service. 10 tapas (including 2 paella), a jug of sangria and 3 crème brûlées for less than 100 euros. Best meal of the holiday.

I have visited Barcelona three times and this was the best service and food by far. Oscar was very attentive and I highly recommend this stop to anyone visiting. Though assumption may dictate that you can not get amazing food in a location so close to such a large tourist attraction, those assumptions would be false in this case. The service and food was so outstanding that my party and I visited this location twice during our stay.

We dined here for dinner on Easter Sunday. It was the perfect way to end our weekend in Barcelona. We loved everything we ate. Our favorites were the Barceloneta potato bomb, Catalan meatballs, vegetarian paella, and the lovely bottle of local wine recommended by our waiter. Additionally, the service was exceptional. Just a wonderful dining experience!

We went here based on the trip advisor ranking and reviews and I am shocked that this place is rated. Service was great but the food is terrible. Bread was fresh and butter and tomato was great (pan con tomate) so we had good first impressions. However we all ordered 3 different main dishes (one fish of the day, one seafood paella and one meat paella) and everyone agreed the food was disgusting. Zero sign of lemon or seasoning, anyone can cook better food at home, very disappointing for the money paid and a meal to definitely forget. Definitely do not recommend this place.

We dined here our last night in Barcelona based on the reviews and the area which was close to our apartment. Sadly, it did not live up to our expectations. I honestly do not understand the good reviews. We had a reservation and it was unrecognized. We were seated immediately in a nearly empty restaurant. Ambience was homey and we were excited to order. Sadly, the orders were not taken correctly and we were given the wrong thing twice. But worse than that was the slow service. 2 other tables arrived after us and they were waited on and got their food long before us. 2 salads came to us 1 hour apart and 1 entree was served 1.5 hours after everyone had eaten. They did offer the 2nd wrong entree for free which was nice - but no one wanted it. The endive salads were nice and the tomato and tuna salad was tasty as was the bread service. The ham and cheese made my son sick later which was unfortunate.
The bottle of white wine we ordered was good as was a glass of red I ordered upon getting my entree 1.5 hours after arriving. The beef cheek cannelloni tasted fine but was a small portion. We left hungry and frustrated. Had the service been better we would recommend it but we cannot based upon our experience. Too many other great options in Barcelona.

I used recomendations from tripadviser. We came here without reservation. Staff was very helpful and we have got table imediately. Before order we havve got a lot off recomendations from waiter what to order. Our wish was to try traditional paela. We were four persons. When I said that we want to share, waiter asked “are we a lot of hungry or only more or less :-)? “ I said that we are hungry. In menu paela price was 27 euros, we have got bill for 108 euros for paela :-) It was crazy as quantiy was only for two persons. You must always ask what final price is in this restauran. Other meals was delicious, but mood after this visit was not the best.

The food and customer service was amazing 10/10. I have to say this was my favourite restaurant throughout our trip. I went with my sisters and mother. Jose Maria is an amazing waiter and we could not have enjoyed our experience without him! We did not feel pressured to order anything we didn’t want to unlike other restaurants in the area, his focus was to ensure we enjoyed our time and meals. If you happen to have him I would listen to his recommendations!

Our daughter 8 years old was very sceptical at start but loved the food, drinks and attention she got. The rest of us was also very pleased with the food and the service. The restaurant is a hidden gem in the middle of a touristic area.

If you’re looking for a place to have delicious Spanish tapas and drinks around the Sagrada Familia, Taverna Moderna is your choice! We came from Taipei, Caracas, and Panama, for a family wedding in Barcelona, and while we were doing some sightseeing, we needed drinks and good food, and this was the best choice. José María and Mafe were simply exceptional, making us feel at home and constantly ensuring that we had everything we wanted. The Albóndigas Aiai, and the Spanish tortilla were the best for me, with a nice bottle of cold cold Cava.
Oh! And chocolate truffles with a tasty shot to end a great evening :)
