My wife and I just returned to Canada from a one month stay at this resort. We have stayed 4 weeks here almost every year for the last ten. I read a lot of negative reviews and I feel these come from people who expected a 5 star resort and also feel somewhat entitled when in fact this is a 3 star; you get what you pay for. We had one concern and one only this year, the food selection was limited and repetitive. This because a hurricane in November destroyed most of the fruit crops an affected other agriculture, also there are still many shortages due to pandemic. Food quantity and variety is also limited and adjusted to the fact that there are very few guests this year. The food that is available is delicious and well prepared, my feeling is that if you go hungry it is your own fault and the complainers very likely do not eat as well at home..We continue to enjoy this home away from home for good reasons. It is very quiet, not overly fancy and is spread over 120 acres of natural beauty, the next closest resort is 40 minutes drive away. The beach is world class, beautiful shallow bay, clean clear water and about one quarter milelong. Acres of grassy areas to lounge and no shortage of chairs. In one month we never saw more than 50 people in the water at once. In one direction you can walk off resort beach and into the countryside on various roads, lanes and paths and be perfectly safe to enjoy the sea views and nature. Immediately at other end of resort beach a one minute walk then introduces you to a second beach, pristine in every way and not busy at any time, you can walk it all the way into the small village of Las Galeras, about one kilometre, where you will find many shops, food markets, bars, restaurants, bank etc and very friendly local people, and again, perfectly safe. Exchange your money at the bank for pesos, local currency works best, take your passport with you. The grounds of Grand Paradise are immaculately kept by outdoor staff and the pools are amazing. The shows at night are well done with some amazing dancers. I read a lot of complaints about staff being rude and not speaking English. One must remember you are in another country, the locals respect you a lot more if you at least try to learn some Spanish and they try their best to do English; we have established wonderful interactions with most staff and in return received satisfactory and sometimes excellent service. Upper level managers are humans and very open to speaking with guests if approached; they are problem solvers. General manager Henri Ulloa is very approachable, Accomodations Manager Samuel Vasquez will go out of his way to try and resolve any issues you may have and answers questions or provide information. An outstanding ambassador for the hotel and after many years as a repeat client, a great friend. Reception manager Samuel Guzman is one of the most helpful persons we have ever dealt with and is always highly visible not only in reception but throughout the resort. all three managers have excellent English language skills. Two other very helpful employees at reception front desk with good Language skills are Cristina and Santos. Other outstanding employees are pool bartender Luiz, beach bartender Henri, animation team members Judy Puello, Elena Santos, Olga Donastorg, Kaky and . In conclusion I suggest you give this hotel a chance, we will definitely return again next year for a month to one of the last undeveloped areas of the Dominican republic with its lack of crowds of people, exceptional sea views and beaches plus acres upon acres of natural beauty.

This hotel as the best location in Las Galeras, it's right next to the beach and walking distance to town and to other amazing beaches of the area like Madama Beach, which I fully recommend on visiting, you can go by boat, but I recommend doing the trail/hike route as it is way more rewarding in the end. The area is pretty safe and they enforce the safety protocols like the use of face masks, disinfection of areas, they even give you a kit with face masks and alcohol! I was a little weary at first cause comments I had read here have been mostly negative about filthy rooms, poor service etc. But this is certainly NOT TRUE! My room was clean, due to the safety protocol you have to call front desk beforehand to schedule a maid to clean your room and in any case who goes to a resort to stay in the room, with all the amazing things to do, like hang by the pool or beach with a piña colada?! Drinks and food are superb! The best thing is that if you are looking to RELAX this is the perfect place and NOW is the perfect moment as the beaches are practically empty and you can do so many things!! The scenery of Las Galeras is absolutely breathtaking and the Ocean View I was assigned had an amazing view. It was my first trip to Las Galeras and it did not disappoint, so I eager you to book this hotel and enjoy the beauty around it, I will definitely will be going back in the future!

We had a Deluxe Garden View Room. Clean! Very basic but it didn't matter as you spend most of your time outside where it is beautiful. We did not have high expectations as it was rated 4 stars and knew we were going for the great outdoors. There was no iron/board or hairdryer as mentioned in the details but if asked I am sure they would have provided it. Again, didn't matter as it is hot outside and your hair dries quickly.... even long hair and we brought wrinkle free dresses/clothing. Staff is VERY friendly despite what some of the people say in their reviews. We had to pay $15 US for a lock for the safe in the room as it is not included in the Deluxe package. Keep in mind that there are three different room packages (Deluxe, Premium and Select). We tried to book the two al a carte restaurants but you can only book the day of meaning you had to be up early to get something reserved. Keep in mind that the two restaurants can close based on occupancy and we could not get in on two of the days we wanted due to closure. We asked our Air Transat rep and he said it is because the hotel was not at capacity. Also, in the main restaurant/buffet area is sectioned off for the "Select" group even if it is not being used which really taxes the traffic in the main buffet area. The Sushi Restaurant ($5 per person) and the Japanese Restaurant ($15 per person) is worth paying for with Deluxe Package but is included in the Premium and Select. There are also some good restaurants in town which is a short walk along the beach from the resort.... maybe 4 km round trip. If you book a trip go in town as it is cheaper than at the resort. We had great luck with Euris. Very friendly and helpful at booking something you want not just the "packages" put together from the resort. Wifi costs for Deluxe Pkg. $5 a day; $10/5 days; $12/7 days; $17/11 days and $20/14 days.

Did not rate the room cleanliness "excellent or 5" only because it is an older resort. The beach and lounge area is beautiful and worth going back for!!

Bungalows are big with at lot of space. Cleaning is fine, but among staff the concept of customer service does not exist.

The hotel seems overcrowded, mostly filled with people from Russia who probably have traveled half around the world for cheap and bad alcohol. So if you are looking for this - it’s the place to be.

The food is poor quality and due to overcrowding it is hard to get a seat in the restaurant if you are a family with more than four persons.

The Italian restaurant can be recommended - great service and fantastic food.

Facilities seems “run-down”, pools are not clean, but beaches looks fine and clean.

Only Spanish is understood by staff.

Be aware if you order non alcohol drinks – you can’t be sure that it’s without alcohol. Maybe caused by my no Spanish

The prepaid WiFi will not work at 90% of the time

All in all, there are many other great places in the world that far surpass this place, both culturally and in terms of hospitality and beauty.

Just got back from a week vacation. This is not a four star resort, more like a 2 1/2. Drive from airport was very long.

Food was pretty good at the a la carte restaurants. Buffet food was alright but getting a table was a nightmare, sometimes we were pointed in the direction of a dirty table and the staff would clean but not set it completely, would have to get our own napkins and coffee cups.

If you're a beer and rum drinker then you'll be fine but if you like blender drinks like I do, they are non existent and club soda always seemed to be flat.

We upgraded to premium and were in building 7, our room was nice and everything worked fine including hot water in the shower with pressure. They have an adults only pool in the premium section, but the rude Russians thought it didn't apply to them and let there loud kids use, after complaining staff finely kicked them out.

Shout out to Daniel at the premium pool bar, he was amazing to us, even let us take over his phone for the music we wanted played.

The beach is beautiful and tried to make the best of our vacation. If you are thinking of coming here and can get it really cheap, make sure you upgrade to Select, as you get a bit better treatment then maybe, but as for me I will not return.

Just returned from a week in Grand Paradise Samana. This is the third time we have stayed here over the past 7 years..unfortunately it will be our last visit. Some things have improved since our last trip..The quality of food is certainly better and the new pool area is very nice, but some things have changed for the worse. Since our last visit they have implemented a tiered guest system.. with "select","premium" and everyone else. If you happen to go as a regular visitor the experience is as a third class citizen. The management of the main dining hall is the best example. It used to be the whole dining area was open to everyone. Now more than half is reserved for select or premium guests leaving only half available for the rest of the guests. So while half the dining area was virtually empty the regulars were crowded into a too small area with tables so close you were constantly being knocked by passers by. If you did not get to the buffet (either breakfast, lunch or dinner) as soon as it opened you would be lucky to get a table. People were sitting at tables with no place settings or often sat down at a table that others had just left before it was cleared to get a spot. The upshot of all this was dining was more of a cattle call than a relaxed dining experience...meanwhile we gazed longingly at the dozens of empty tables on the other side of the dining room.
It also seemed to have affected the staff.. who on previous visits were outgoing and friendly. That does not seem true anymore. They seemed remote and generally unhappy. Maybe it had to do with the fact that seemed more about policing who could do what and go where under the tiered system than actually providing a service to the guests. I don't blame the front line people. I think they are just as unhappy about this as I was.
The laid back, friendly vibe I returned for has gone :(
The natural surroundings both on the property and around it are stunning..It is truly a beautiful area. I have recommended this hotel many times over the years to friends who want a relaxed vacation in a beautiful setting but I cannot in good consciousness recommend it anymore. I will not be going back.

We found our room in building 7 to be very nice but be aware there are no elevators and the 3 floor hike started to get old fast, anyone with mobility issues will have to have main level. The couple we stayed with were in building 6 and had nothing but problems and the room stunk like cigarettes.
The food at the buffet was decent and I always found something good to eat BUT it gets busy and the seating is brutal, you can't sit at the premium seating so they will usher you over to a dirty table and you have to pester the staff members to clean and reset the table, this was almost every time we went there.
The beer and rum is good and I was content BUT the two ladies in our group like blender drinks and that is non-existent!
We were staying near the "Adults Only" pool which is clearly marked as such but yet many families decided to swim there and there is nobody around to enforce the rules which made for some tense arguments (in Russian) about the issue, some people just figure they can do whatever they like!
The beach is beautiful so if you just want to drink beer on the beach and you get a good price then go for it! Otherwise look elsewhere.

Let me just start by saying this is definitely not a four star resort, probably a two and a half, maximum three.

The bed linens looked and smelled like they were not changed since the previous guests stayed in the room, it was disgusting 🤢.

The beach was the best part of the resort even though there was a lot of seaweed being washed up every day which didn't bother me as it's part of nature.

One more thing I have to mention is that we booked the waterfall and horse back riding excursion through the resort and although the waterfall was amazing, they only gave us about 20 minutes to swim and that part of the tour felt very rushed. Also, the horse ride felt very unsafe as the grounds were very uneven, muddy, slippery and at times very steep. The horse guides did not look or act appreciative when you tipped them, they don't even say thank you.

I will definitely not return to this resort

Hello everyone. First of all I just want to let you know that this is not meant as negative, let me explain.
March 6th, we arrived at Grand Paradise for a week of fun and relaxing. This was our 3rd visit here and we were so looking forward to it.

1st time we booked premium junior suites, excellent, 2nd time Club select, not worth the extra cost at all.
This time we took garden view rooms, good rooms overlooking pool, clean, hot water, ac working, so no complaints here.
Okay, go to breakfast, this is where it starts to go downhill. Food is very repetitive, good but not much selection. The service has decreased so much, waitresses, front desk, grounds, it's so noticeable. A friend that I recommend to this resort was back for her 2nd time the week before us and she was telling that the resort was not has well kept and the food was not what it was the previous year. We'll I saw for myself. I asked some other returning guess, some that had been coming here for many many years and they indeed confirmed.
I have recommended and bragged about this resort to anyone who would listen to me. Even on bus from airport to resort, we had a group who this was their 1st trip that they would not be disappointed.
Well let me tell you how embarrassing it was for me to see them unhappy.
Oh the biggest let down was the animation team. There were 3 of them that we would see all day. This was pitiful. But hats off to Yoanne, Nabuk and the young lady, I cannot remember her name. They did what they could but, not enough. Only familiar face was Benito, the bartender at main bar. He's been there for 11years and he is good, nice and so happy all the time. He definitely made our stay more enjoyable.
Bottom line, management will have to look into these issues if they want people to return. And also get staff that speak and understand English and French, this was such a big issue for Quebec guest. Being Fluently bilingual, I had to translate alot for them, and I did not know themAs for us, we will not be returning for awhile.
Wishing this beautiful resort, all the luck.

Sincerely,

Joanne

Traveled here with family in February. First off, this is definitely not a 4 star resort (2 at most); The pictures on various sites are quite deceiving. Resort is very run down; it is not properly maintained. We had a leak in our washroom and I had to go to front desk more than once for someone to come and check it out. If you do not request room service, no one will show up! and when they do, they do such a poor job of cleaning up the rooms! Bed linens also reek!

In regards to the staff, they need to hire workers who know how to speak English considering guests are international. Also, a lot of the staff are quite rude and unpleasant to be around, as if they are forced to do their jobs.

Buffet and a la carte restaurants were horrible... not much selection and everything seems to run out. There is no complimentary snack bar in your room; they only provide bottled coke and bottled water.

Save your money and go somewhere else--- overall, seemed like a run down motel.
