Nestled close to stunning beaches and local attractions, the Grand Decameron Complex Bucerías is lauded for its desirable location. While the resort's atmosphere is deemed relaxing with a Mexican flair, reviewers frequently suggest room modernization, lamenting the absence of amenities like fridges. The cleanliness of the complex often receives high marks, although some have highlighted housekeeping inconsistencies. Guests commend the staff's commendable demeanor, despite occasional service hiccups. Despite its allure, the resort's perceived value suffers due to food quality concerns and unexpected charges, leaving amenities receiving mixed reviews.

We were here 10 years ago when it was rated a 3.5 star resort, now it is rated at 4 or 5 star, Really? I heard that it had been upgraded recently to change it’s rating. Except for most of the rooms have new more modern AC units installed the complex is exactly as it was 10 years ago and showing years of wear. In general the food was terrible, the 5 a la carte restaurants were all very mediocre at best. The reservation process for these restaurants is from the dark ages, you have to line up at 6 AM to get a ticket from the desk that opens at 9! Upon arrival the check in process is painfully, it takes forever and the instructions to find your room in this large complex are very frustrating. The room was clean but that was about the only positive thing, no coffee maker, no fridge, no shampoo or conditioner bathroom light was burned out and after multiple requests was never replaced. The staff in general was very friendly and helpful and are constantly cleaning and maintaining the grounds. The pool areas and the beach are very well maintained. We love the location of the complex as it is away from the hustle and bustle of PV, it is a short walk or taxi ride to Bucerias which has a market and cool beach bars and restaurants. It’s not a bad place but do not go there expecting anything more than a 3 to 3.5 star accommodations. We would probably go back again someday but love to see it upgraded.

We have stayed in this hotel a couple other times and several times at the Decameron Los Cocos in Guayabitos. Always been reasonably good value. Rooms and food are nothing fancy but pretty good all in all. 5 a la carte restaurants again pretty good and buffets good too. Staff for the most part is great. Two negatives.
1. Wifi is pretty bad. Have to be right in a lobby or bar and even then is sometimes quite spotty. And requires full login every time you want to access. There’s no remembering your last login. Not a deal breaker for me but pretty simple to boost the signal and get some extenders placed around the property.
2. This is the big one for me. We’ve never experienced the level of entitlement? in the past at any resort. People “saving” palapas/beach loungers and pool umbrellas early (5:00am) and not even using them until in one case, 3:00 in the afternoon. Same group actually started to try and save these primo spots at 5:00 the night before. Get up to go to their rooms and leave a book, an air mattress, old towel spread across 6-8 loungers. It appeared that some were saving beach spots and pool spots at the same time. This same group actually picked out a few of the best boogie boards, signed them out and then just leaned them against the tree and left them there for several hours. Just in case they wanted to go out and surf. Brutal. In the past I have heard that the Americans were rude and badly behaved but I must say most all the Americans we interacted with were great. It was the good old Canadians who behaved poorly. And not reserved to one province or another. I think the hotel needs to make an effort to curtail this behaviour or at least limit it. At minimum put up signs and enforce one chair saved by one hotel issued towel. No saving chairs with a “reserved” sign over the back, or book and no saving three chairs with one towel. That way people could only save one chair for each person in their room and would think twice about putting towels (that cost if they’re lost) out the night before. Rant over. Friends are at the Decameron Los Cocos for the 6th or 7th time and they will not be going back after this year. No Beach Club and two new hotels on the property with everyone trying to access the same restaurants and bars.

We arrived on the Christmas Day and reached the hotel around dinner time. Staffs were nice and efficient at the reception, yet the room arrangement was very much inconsiderate. We are a family of three ladies and one 2 yrs old toddler girl, and we were being assigned to block 6 which was the last building of the hotel where was pretty much far from anything. We were disappointed to see how the room looks. It looks very old, not enough lighting in the room, the bathroom was very outdated. I’m not sure if it was because of the humidity, the bedsheet and blanket always felt wet. As I mentioned, four female travelers, and we were only given 1 small bottle of shampoo and 2 bottles of water in the room everyday, clearly showed the inconsideration. When I asked for a kid’s bathroom, the one sent to my room was covered in dust that I had to deep clean it :( the second day of our stay was my moms birthday, and we highlighted during our reservation with the hotel, there were zero arrangement from the hotel with not even a written birthday card, again disappointed! The food at the buffet was just average, with limited selection and poor presentation. The type of food was pretty much the same everyday except then New Years’ Eve dinner. I would strongly recommend to go dine at the a la carte restaurants if you expect more on the food. The things that we appreciated the most was the beach, the pool, and the evening entertainment. And one thing to add, the New Year count down was amazing! I can actually see the management made an effort to have it done so well. Lastly, I think hotel should consider adding a kid club or at lease a playground area for younger children who don’t want to spend time at the pool or the beach all day. Times like a rainy day, kids actually got literally nothing to do.

We booked this hotel as a late deal with Tui. Struggling to find two rooms for three people.

Our rooms reminded us of Spanish hotel rooms we enjoyed back in the eighties. My daughter couldn't access her room when we arrived, an hour later after a bit of bashing and drilling by Manuel aka 'The Fitter' she got in. So whilst very irritating after a long flight the solution was very good.

The place is spotless, staff very attentive, good range and choice in the Canteen (Self Service Buffet Restaurants) and the ala carte restaurants are well worth a visit.

Wine is awful, however all the spirits are branded and the cocktails tasted really good.

No shortage of sunbeds both by the numerous pools and on the lovely beach. However a few more umbrellas would be welcomed.

Hawkers on the beach are a pain, this could be resolved by roping off the beach bed area. A few other hotels have employed this tactic.

Location is great, just a few hundred yards from a village which hosts a wide range of shops and bars.

We had a wonderful stay and happy to recommend.

I saw someone write that they thought they overpaid by $500. I completely disagree. As someone who has been to Mexico at least a dozen times I felt Royal Decameron is a tremendous value.

It is not the most updated or fanciest property, but it is gorgeously landscaped, immaculately kept, the rooms was always very clean and the staff are so much better than so many places we have been before. It has an old Mexico feel as so many people would say. Walking just down the road into Bucerias downtown/market provides even more of that. The range of activities and areas directly on the property are awesome. I have seen people complain about the pool area being loud in other reviews. There are five different pools. One is very loud. Most are not. I believe one is even adults only. There is something for everyone. The safe key was the equivalent of $2.50 American a day. If you are spending a thousand plus dollars a head for a weeks getaway, how can you complain about that? Again, I have seen others do so in their reviews. So many places that my wife and I have been to both in Mexico and other countries including the U.S. would charge 3-4 times that much. The prices in the on-site stores were also very reasonable in comparison to the off-site stores.

In conclusion, if you hate paying a bunch of money only to get someplace and have the property pressure you to spend more and more, then this is a great place because you don't get that at all. If you are willing to walk the grounds and see everything they have to offer, you will be rewarded with all kinds of added value. There are bound to be things that are up your alley as each of the different buildings/areas has their own pool and many have other thinsg like the iguana pool, amazing landscaping, giant chess, volleyball on the beach, pool games, night time activities including faux gambling with prizes and very quality performers both earlier and later in the evening. If you are young and want to party hardy, not the ideal hotel for you. Want to have some drinks (or not), meet some new friends and have a good time relaxing? Then this is a GREAT place for you. We left appreciating the cleanliness and friendliness and complete absence of pressure to buy things after we already paid healthy $$$ and had avery good taste in our mouth from our experience.

Traveled to the Royal Decameron the last week in February for the first time. We have been in Puerto Vallarta many times but this was our first visit to the Decameron. The resort is about 15 - 20 mins from the airport but can be longer if your transfer bus has to drop off at other resorts. We took almost an hour to get to our resort as we went into Neuvo Vallarta to drop off. We took a taxi to return to the airport and it only took 15 mins, with a cost of 240 pesos.

It is a lovely resort, with multi colored buildings which gives it an authentic Mexican feel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Everywhere in the resort is clean and well maintained, actually I don't think I have ever been in a cleaner resort in Mexico. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

The food is plentiful and fresh and well prepared, from the breakfast buffet to the Specialty restaurants. Our favorite was the PIccolo (Mediterranean style, but mostly Italian). There are 5 Specialty restaurants. You can book the restaurants every night of your stay, but can only book 2 at a time. Booking is every morning at 8:30(the brochure we were given said 8 but the Guest Services staff does not get there till 8:30. People begin lining up as early as 6:30, once the process begins it is very quick.

The beach is very nice, able to walk a long way in either direction. There are many lounge chairs and palapas along the beach. Suggest you bring a blow up float mattress (from the dollarstore is fine) to put on the lounge chairs as they are the hard white plastic chairs. The air mattresses are also sold at the gift shop in the lobbies

There are 5 pools, 2 are in an adult section or quiet section of the resort, Block 5 and 6. We stayed in Block 5 which was very quiet and peaceful, In the evening you could hear the show at the theater but you can hear that through the whole resort, it ends around 10:30 pm and once your balcony door is closed it is not a problem Not all the buildings have elevators (3 and 4 story buildings), so if you have mobility issues make sure to request a building with an elevator. There are no fridges in the rooms, but I believe you can request one.

The rooms are locked with a traditional key that is put on a lanyard, be careful not to loose your key as you will be charged for a replacement, but also the key has your room number etched into it, so if found someone could enter your room. There are safes in the rooms, however it also is locked with a key, that you purchase for 50 pesos a day.

There are spa treatments available, we had a massage on the beach which was lovely. They run specials everyday, on Tuesday a 50 minute massage was $20 US

I would recommend this resort but if I had younger children with me I am not sure that they would be entertained, there is an activities pool but not really a children's section or play areas.

We actually traveled to Bucerias in February 2019 to visit friends and stayed at the Royal Decameron for the first time. Overall, the property was clean and well maintained and well located on a beautiful beach. The rooms were spacious and the housekeeping staff was attentive and all rooms had balconies.Breakfasts were pretty good, lunches were adequate and dinner buffets and specialty restos were disappointing. One of the real pluses of the property is its proximity to the town of Bucerias. We actually ate out a several times in the evening and thoroughly enjoy some wonderful local restos (Italian, French and a Jazz Club) in the neighborhood.
There is also a large Flea Market each day in the town centre and a weekly market up the street.
From a negative perspective, having to go to the main lobby each time you wanted to access the WiFi was a real pain as well as having to put up with the hardest and most uncomfortable loungers diminished our experience. Most other resorts have nylon covers / pads for these loungers as a cheap and effective solution.

My husband and I have been to this property over twelve times. This year, we felt that the owners had made cutbacks relating to the quality and variety of foods in the restaurants. Evening entertainment was less than usual as well. Overall cleanliness of our room and of the property was also a “step down.” We applaud the use of reusable glasses in the bars, but some of the glasses had an old “plastic” smell that affected the taste of the drinks. I don’t believe that the glasses were washed properly either. I believe that they were being quickly rinsed by the bartenders during busy times.

The staff always rate a ten out of ten. They are friendly, honest, and they have a great sense of humour. We always look forward to seeing them again every year!

This is my fourth visit to the Royal Decameron Complex in Bucerias. Just to be clear, this complex is reached through the Puerto Vallarta Airport in Jalisco, but is a short ride depending on traffic to the state of Riviera Nayarit and the town of Bucerias.

This location is perfect for me as I can get to PV quite easily by public transport or taxi for about 320 pesos. You can walk to the town centre of Bucerias by sidewalk or beach and enjoy restaurants and shops and corner stores along your walk or again take a taxi for 60 pesos.

This hotel is Mexican and is reliable with the same dining themes, staff and clean grounds and rooms year after year. The staff are multi lingual and customer service is a priority. I needed a break after a whirlwind year and this resort gave me what I needed a great rest and a Mexican Christmas. The dinner on December 24 th was spectacular in its attention to detail and ambience.

The food at best is barely eatable, same things everything day at the buffets, nothing changes, breakfast, lunch and dinner! It’s also crazy and unacceptable in today day and age of technology that you make your guests get up every day and lineup to get a spot at what is called, a la carte restaurants. Most serve u same food items u would get a buffet but plate service. It’s an absolute inaccurate to ok call these a la carte restaurants. For this you are asked to give up 1-2 hours of your vacation on a daily basis to lineup for these to afford you the opportunity to make a reservation. Also the general attitude is they are doing a favour, sorry your taking 1-2 hours a day of my vacation away, and how are guest compensated or where is the value, plain clear and simple there is no value to the guest. Apologies for the rant, but now on to more important things guest security, all the room doors are at best made of pressed cardboard, they are indoor closet or bathroom doors with locks that any elementary school child could bypass or force their way through, absolute atrocious and a real lack of concern guest security from this establishment. Incase of a fire these doors might as well not be in place to stop the spread of a fire from one room to another. As for the rooms they are simple and clean. The mattresses are hard as rocks, almost Expected in this part of the world. But don’t throw salt on the wound by saying if guest pay extra they can have a Myers’s topper. That’s admittedly saying you know you have a problem you just want to make money from the situation. Also pillows for adults are suppose to be bigger that one foot square, this not a crib pillow! I won’t even bother with Wi-Fi services (do not exist except in Lobby)

Overall disappointing because the facility and grounds are exceptional and are extremely well situated. They have missed on guest services and delivery of services.

It’s a shame and speaks to mind set of management and the value they place on guests and their comfort!

I know this is late but will answer for anyone else who is interested - your best bet when coming to Mexico is to order pesos from your bank at home ahead of time and/or use your debit card to withdraw pesos at a bank machine in Mexico. Money exchanges are not common & will often require long lines & passport. Not something I’d choose to do on vacation.
