Nestled in a secluded location, Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica offers a vibrant mix of entertainment and tranquility, with its lively music and events. While the service has received mixed opinions, with issues in speed and room amenities, many guests commend the friendly staff. The resort's value, however, is a point of contention, with some travelers finding services overpriced. Amenities like diverse dining options and well-maintained pools earn high marks, though room maintenance and privacy are areas for improvement. The overall cleanliness of the grounds and rooms stands out, contributing to the resort's appeal.

The property is beautiful with lots of wildlife to enjoy and for the most part the employees working the resort are nice, accomodating and cheerful. The food is average. We have had much better meals in the same branded restaurants at resorts. This is the only resort that they make VIP Members pay for cabanas, the VIP Services overall at this resort would make it not recommended to upgrade. In you room they put two low grade bottles of liquor in the mini bar. Every other resort we have been to they come to your room and ask what you would like stocked daily. At other resorts snacks are plentiful with variety at this resort 1 M&Ms and 1 bag of chips daily. The room was in a great location and enjoyed the daily wildlife visitors, but from when we checked in the room was never cleaned properly. Our room came with someone elses hair and was never cleaned up and we refused to touch it. The hot tub was never cleaned daily and therfore unusable.

The Club was nice and the people very friendly and the UVC Team was great, but the resort needs to step it up a notch,

This is a stunning resort, with beautiful, natural, unspoiled mountains surrounding it. It is a relatively small beach in a bay and is the only hotel on this beach. All the buildings have been tastefully built with lots of vegetation around them so they don't look like the typical condo highrises of most resorts. Several swimming pools with lots of vegetation around them. It's very clean and staff is very pleasant. You have to deal with the regular sales pitch on arrival to have an "appointment" regarding time share, but we were not interested at all, and once we said no, we were not harrassed about it. There are several restaurants, which we found ok, but not great. I know that resorts have to cater to a wide variety of people, so the food is pretty ordinary, except the breakfast buffet is amazing. We had one terrible meal at the Ocean side grill with poor service. The food was tasteless, cold, not as described on the menu and I never received a side dish that I ordered. But that was the only bad experience. The only other short-coming, is that every day at noon there is a water aerobics class in the pool closest to the beach. The music is so loud, that once it started, sitting on the beach, we could no longer hear the surf and couldn't concentrate to read. If they moved this class to the upper pool, it would be far enough from the beach that it wouldn't intrude. But in the big scheme of things, and in comparison to the many other resorts we have been to, these are minor complaints.

I am not a fan of this common hotel concept of the bathroom and bedroom being in one big room. There are separate toilet and shower stalls, but they open up in full view of the bedroom. There is a curtain you can close to give some separation between the two areas, but I prefer bathroom privacy and this really gives you none. Other than that, the room was very clean and had a capacious armoire for hanging clothes, slightly underserved with drawers for folded clothes, but a comfortable bed with turn down service.

We were with a group of 10 people. Checked in January 3rd. There were a few rooms with incorrect number of beds, kings that should have been two doubles. Took two days to resolve that issue. Resort is beautiful. Food was average. Nighttime Entertainment definitely needs work. Lots of wildlife roaming around. We had Mountain View rooms and it was cool to watch the monkeys climb around. Rooms were well maintained. Despite leaving $5 tips daily for housekeeping, we were not left enough washcloths or hand towels a few days, so I just stopped tipping the last two days. Beds were comfortable, and we did not hear any outside noise in our rooms. Bathroom situation was not too bad. The curtain is not see through, and we took turns sitting on the balcony while the other one used toilet/shower. Got a great massage on the beach for $55. Buffett food was basically the same thing day after day, with two or three items changed up. By day 7 everyone in our group was longing for something different. But overall it was a very enjoyable stay, and we would recommend Dreams Resort.

Quick summary:
Resort quality and facilities overall 4/5
Room cleanliness 2/5
Food selection and quality 3/5
Overall value 3/5
Liquor selection 2/5
Service overall 2/5

The resort is expensive and I expected more for the price point. Service levels did not change whether you tipped or not. Not a single person throughout our stay asked how our stay was. Meat in the buffet was usually quite overcooked and very limited selection of cooked vegetables. The lounge chairs are saved at 6am so if you want a spot by the pool, get out there early. The VIP services are a bit annoying and right by the preferred lounge so always asking you to attend their presentation. Most bars by the pool ran out of Imperial light just after noon. No import beers are served unless you buy it yourself in the gift shop. Minibar only has Imperial and Pilsen. Only diet pop available is coca cola light. No spiced rum, no clamato for a caesar, limited selection of liquor overall. Our room floor was never washed and filthy. Ketchup stains on the dividing curtain and end table was never cleaned from the previous guests. Patio doors were never cleaned and finger prints all over from other guests.

The weather was great at the end of January, warm, light breeze and no rain.

Overall, we felt this resort was average at best for the price point.

Just spent 11 days here, Dec 26-Jan 5. Family of 5, two junior suites. Second time here. Better than the first time in a few ways, but no improvements that I hoped for. The pillows and the Wifi are both big letdowns unfortunately. However the food and the service are completely over the top, honestly. Housekeeping is exceptional. The beach is calm, perfectly safe for toddlers and elderly adults with diminished physical abilities. Evening shows are fun and elaborate. New Years was brought in with a 45 minute fireworks display. All first class. If you want to hit a resort with great food (everything, not just the seafood), clean comfy rooms (good layout, great shower, never ran out of hot water ever, you can drink the water out of the sink), polished but not over the top modern, still in touch with a natural surrounding (monkeys on the daily at the beach that are timid but friendly), where the people are all kind (speak mild to amazing English-no language barrier), and not feel like you have to leave for adventure because you can really enjoy the rest, then seriously, stop reading and just book. Literally the most relaxing vacation I have ever had. Beachfront is brown but quite sandy, its also like a mile long plus the reefs that can be scaled, absolutely no ocean vegetation washup....this is a real vacation. Great deals apparently in Jan starting on the 3rd!

My husband and I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Costa Rica. We stayed at Dreams Las Mareas in Guanacaste, a beautiful 5 star all inclusive resort. The resort is in a quiet location and remote to any major towns or places to visit. It is about 1.5 hours drive to and from the Liberia airport.

The weather in early December turned out to be perfect. Everyday we had a gentle breeze to cool us off and it really felt like paradise. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. We had a great view of the mountains and could hear the relaxing sound of the ocean from our room. Because our view was obstructed by the lush vegetation we were unable to see the beach. The maids did a great job cleaning but occasionally did not leave the the right kind of towels each day.

The resort is right on the beach and also near the rainforest. There is no shortage of swimming pools as they can be found almost everywhere in the resort. I did notice leaves accumulating in some of parts of the pool and I would prefer to see them maintained regularly throughout the day. The grounds and landscaping was fabulous with many varieties of trees, bushes, shrubs and flowers. It was fun and exciting to see capuchin and Howler monkeys, many different kinds of birds, iguanas and lizards at the resort.

As a vegan, I was happy with the food. It was always fresh with lots of varieties of fruits and vegetables. All the restaurants and the main buffet were great. The Seafood and Italian restaurants were the only 2 that did not offer much vegan options. Our server at the Italian restaurant did not speak English very well and did not get my order correctly. Some of the staff did struggle with English but everyone did their best to meet our needs and provide the best service possible.

Roberto Quintana, VIP guest services, was excellent. He was always friendly, knowledgable, helpful, and was a great point of contact for us whenever we needed assistance. He made dinner reservations often for us which made our dining experience much more relaxing. Roberto checked in on us often and always made the extra effort to be helpful. Since this was our first visit to Costa Rica and to Dreams Las Mareas it was comforting to know we had someone like Roberto we could count on to guide and assist us at the resort.

I highly recommend Dreams Las Mareas and would definitely come back again.

I have just returned from my first trip to Costa Rica and Dreams Resort. From the moment I arrived I was wishing I had booked a fortnight not just a week. Check in was swift, cool towels and sparkling white wine. I was taken straight to my huge room overlooking the jungle and indeed later in the week had jungle visitors in the shape of monkeys.

The food was delicious. However, I am a vegetarian and I might have been better catered for if I was a meat eater. The breakfast juice bar was out of this world. They had real fruits I had never even heard of. The only moan about breakfast the Americans seemed have first choice of tables while I was asked to queue and I did have an issue of their keenness to clear my breakfast when I just went to get another juice.

There were plenty of pools and sunbeds, contrary to other reviews I always got a sunbed in my chosen spot without dawn stealth. The drinks were generous and no holding back on two shots of rum in the Green Monster ! The beach was not white sand but I spent a quiet time there watching the sunsets.

I am an animal and wildlife fanatic and you did not have to go out in a group to see all the monkey species, birds and wild animals from racoons to sloths. These were all on the doorstep of the hotel. I travelled solo but was lucky enough to find a lovely couple who took me out on a monkey and bird trail.

Evening entertainment was supplied by the Dream Entertainment Team. I was up on stage three evenings! Sleep quality was excellent. It all went quiet at 10pm even a wedding stopped at that time. There was a disco area, open till 1am, well away from rooms so any weddings and receptions or those who wanted nightlife did not disturb guests.

The room was huge with a beautiful rain shower and bathtub on the balcony.

You are asked not to feed the animals but the Caspian monkeys were so cute and jumped out the trees as you walked to breakfast via jungle pathways.

It was a laid back very relaxing holiday do as much or little as you wished.

Thank you very much for recognizing our attributes, the food service, the rooom, the pool service, but I will share tour feedback to improve the breakfast in the buffet. And we know the animals are amazing, and they are part of the hotel, but it is not advisable to feed them due to the affection to their nature, and a daily banana could generate diabetes for the sugar content, taking the monkeys as a reference. My family decided to splurge and treat ourselves to an all inclusive Christmas getaway this year. We all upgraded to the Preferred Guest semi private pool rooms for our stay. We had 5 rooms in total over 20k in total . The rooms were nicely decorated and the pool experience was beautiful. The rooms led out to a semi private pool surrounded by lush greens. Upon arrival to our room, we were greeted by a scorpion and a tarantula, we called maintenance to remove them, but it kept me on edge the entire stay because I was worried about what else might be hiding in the room. The room was a little odd because the toilet and shower had frosted glass which allowed the person on the bed to see what’s happening. The appearance of the exterior of hotel was very nice and well manicured and the staff was extremely friendly. We were expecting top shelf liquor because of our preferred status, but we had to keep going to the lobby bar to get Titos or grey goose. My kids loved the virgin drinks but the Coke that was offers was watered down and flat. I asked several times for cans of coke or the bottled coke and they did not allow it. Eventually, we took the glass bottles of coke from the mini fridge and brought them down to the pool area and when we dined in the restaurants. The food was about the same as other all inclusive hotels that we’ve been at. If you’re traveling in a large group, expect to wait an hour to be seated. We never were able to get reservations for the habachi grill. The ocean is based on a peninsula , very calm water with locals giving massages for $60. My kids ran into the water and immediately ran out, the ocean is covered in little jellyfish, which the staff call “ojo de oro ”. The stings cause tingling and burning. The hotel offers vinegar to calm the irritation. Additionally, we had to pay an additionally $ 450 to get COVID tested even though on their website it says that preferred guests have their tests covered(free of charge). I tried speaking to the manager at the front desk and he said that we booked our trip in October and they are only covering the tests for reservations booked from November on. They would budge on it. Overall, my stay was underwhelming. The preferred “up charge” want worth it and we probably will stay at another resort for our next vacation.

I want to start by saying I have been to at least 7 all inclusive resorts between Mexico, Jamaica and Costa Rica so I have had a variety of experiences. The first thing I wish I would have researched is the proximity of Dreams to most of the exciting things Costa Rica has to offer. Dreams is 1.5 Hours from the Airport and the majority of volcanoes, waterfalls, and additional excursions were 1.5 hours back towards the airport. The ride to the resort is tough if you get even remotely motion sick, making you not want to get back in a car. As for the resort itself the grounds are beautiful. There are so many areas to sit pool side (families, and those that want to relax). The two biggest items that left me feeling neutral is the lack of entertainment. If you have been to any other resorts you may have seen an impersonation show, fire show, party pool/music, foam party, band at night etc. There are "shows" at night that start at 9:00 and it is an hour of dancers. They are good dancers but it doesn't exactly bring you to you feet or get you clapping along. Secondly the food is not very good. The buffet especially was borderline inedible. The food is always cold and often undercooked. El Patio and the Portofino are the best restaurants are the only two I would suggest. Overall the customer service is great and as previously mentioned the grounds are pretty but it doesn't make up for the price, location, food, and lack of entertainment being so far from the rest of the cultural experiences.

This resort is absolutely beautiful. Went May 27-June 1, 2021. The service was great. It wasn't crowded. It is definitely a ways from the city, airport and excursions. Be prepared to travel if you stay there. The couples massage was great. The staff were always accommodating. Even down to just deciding to stay an extra night (that was an easy process). The best food was breakfast, the teriyaki at the Japanese spot, Cajun pasta at the Italian spot and the sea bass at the seafood spot. Everything else on the menu and other restaurants had such SALTY food. We were really surprised by that. I also was disappointed by the lack of option at Barefoot grill, which is the main spot that is open during the day for like your poolside options. They had the same thing every day and did not really cater to people who did not eat pork or beef. Definitely became bored with that daily. One thing, probably one of the most important thing to note is that the sea water was full of JELLYFISH and me and my boyfriend was stung pretty bad. It seemed like the locals on the beach knew that this was a thing after the fact because they told us to head to a restaurant and ask for vinegar. My boyfriend started to get whelps and my legs and arms turned red. Eventually, I guess they were like the resort EMS people met us by one of the pool bars to spray us down with vinegar. After about an hour the whelps went down as well as the redness and stinging/burning feeling. It was a bit crazy. Thank God we did not have a severe allergic reaction!! IDK if it was the season or what but heyyy they should warn people!! All in all though it was a good time. It was very relaxing. We were able to catch up on a lot of rest. Also remember the resort pretty much shuts down after 10pm or 11pm. If you are looking to party all night till morning this is not the spot. But we wanted a romantic getaway just focusing on us and this resort gave us that. It is definitely aesthetically pleasing. Ultimately, we probably wouldn't go to this location again mainly due to not really feeling the beach but we would definitely do dreams or secret resorts somewhere else.
