You have to love taking a sea plane or a helicopter in order to reach this resort. Once there you will be in AWE of the scenery and the amenities at the resort. The rooms have THE most beautiful water views and dinner here is an experience with the freshest fish (salmon, wild salmon) I have ever eaten. All dinners were superb.

My guide was fabulous even though it rained every day. Mike is the best.

I also talked with Sarah at the conservatory. Kudos to Sarah.

Everyday I had muffin and berries for breakfast since I fished everyday 8-12pm. They were always waiting.

I am allergic to pineapple and every meal was made carefully and i was told they kitchen checked and told me that my fruit was made using a different cutting board and knife.

Fishing was great and my guide Mike is a great guide. I had a couple of days no fish but he found me bears, eagles and sea lions.

We flew in to the Sonora island resort from Vancouver by seaplane. We stayed in the diamond room at the Sonora Island resort for four nights. This is truly an exceptional resort. You are surrounded by mountains and snowcap mountains in the distance while looking out on a beautiful water ocean inlet. The diamond room, with floor to ceiling glass, allowed us to capture the beautiful scenery. The food was outstanding, and the chefs go out of their way to accommodate your requests.

For example, my wife and I, when we were young, had lived on the south island of New Zealand for several months. We met two Sonora resort staff members from New Zealand, and we told them how much we had loved their country. We also commented on how much we enjoyed Pavlova, the famous New Zealand dessert. Well sure enough for dessert that night we were served Pavlova, and two New Zealand staff members joined us at our request.

But what made the Sonora island resort experience truly outstanding was the attention we received from the staff. Many of the young staff come from different countries throughout world. It was so interesting to talk to them about their travel experiences and about life in the countries from where they came. The staff made us feel like this was our home, and we can’t begin to thank the staff enough for their kindness.

If you are looking for a five star resort experience in an extraordinary setting, we highly recommend the Sonora Island resort.

Spectacular views, large clean apartment, helpful staff, tasty meals, bar fridge which is replenished daily.
The daily activities cater to everyone, fishing, bear watching, eco tours, fly fishing, tennis, games room, putting golf green, golf simulator to name a few.
We went fishing with Logan who I can’t speak highly enough of, without his knowledge and attention to detail I would not have caught my ENORMOUS salmon.

The resort is seriously perfect, location, scenery, activities and staff/service. We came to see the bears and orcas and werent disapointed, + the boat guides were very knowledgable, entertaining and went out of their way to make a successful outing . I also highly recommend the ocean kayking .

The kitchen - not so much. We're not foodies, reasonable expectations but been around. Breakfast was great but dinner 5 nights / 5 remained repetitively so unappetizing that we learned to avoid everything but one of the salads and the halibut ( which was dry but edible) nb fellow, equally diappointed guests said the beef was ok.

Ok, so we tried lunch , the Montreal smoked meat sounded enticing . . . evidently the chef has never heard of or tasted a Montreal smoked meat, but still all would have been ok if it had at least been smoked meat and edible - Not. So we then stuck with breakfast and wine for the reast of our stay - the BC wine was excellent.

In sum, a fantastic resort but with a real and serious chef problem which if not addressed for the next season, should place the chateaux and relais distinction in peril.

Thank you for your feedback. We continuously look for ways to improve the guest experience and pride ourselves on offering world class amenities and exceptional cuisine. We are sorry to hear that our cuisine did not meet your expectations of a Relais & Châteaux property, as it is one of the features at Sonora which gets the most favourable comments. We are pleased to learn that you found all other aspects exceptional and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide you with an exceptional culinary experience.

The views from our room over the river had seals and eagles and just a 5 minute walk away there was a group of sea lions. The staff are friendly and efficient with a clear desire to make sure you have a fantastic time. A very special place

What a wonderful experience we had from check-in to check-out! The staff at Sonora Resort truly made our stay extra special, as well as the delicious food, excellent outdoor activities, and attention to detail. We traveled from Florida, which was a long journey, and we were blown away with the beauty of the resort, the surrounding environment, the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the impeccable service. Our favorite experiences were salmon fishing (3 times!), hiking, archery, and our dinners. We will be back!

This is a very special place in the world. Set in a unique location of Sonora Island, this magnificent property is a super location to explore the incredibile wilderness of Sonora Island and the surrounding islands.

Amazing fishing, great views, stunning expeditions and activity, great food and above all attentive and friendly service! All of the staff were exquisite and very kind towards our infant and couldn’t have made us feel more comfortable and at home.

Managed to see some great wildlife including humpbacks, orcas, grizzlies, eagles, seals and more… check out the drone video on YouTube “Sonora Expedition”!

Second visit and won’t be our last!

Thank you Sonora!!

Sonora is a very special place. For us a once in a lifetime treat. Arriving by helicopter to the resort was thrilling. We had a diamond room top floor which had spectacular views and was a very good size. It’s all inclusive and the food was of a very high standard. There was even a “snack” room to pick up goodies prior to your excursion’s. We went on the grizzly tour and fished for salmon with Don. Both we would recommend. The hiking trails great and you must stop at discovery island to see the sea lions and seals. The helicopter wasn’t scheduled on the day we left so took the 1 1/2 hour boat trip into Campbell River at 1pm and our flight to Vancouver didn’t leave until 6pm. This was annoying as there was a lot of waiting around so look into this when booking. It was also suggested that we tip $60 per person per day and tip all our excursions. The resort was quite expensive so thought that tips should be included.

You definitely can see Grizzlies in the Sonora area but timing definitely depends on the salmon run, which is usually closer to September. Your best bet would be to call and speak to their reservations team for their timing recommendations. Best of luck!
