The resort is situated in an exceptionally desirable location. After a few steps on a gravel path, the guest is greeted by an endless beach and a blue ocean. This is paradise on earth! We were greeted at the entry by Fabiana who led us to the reception. She was very friendly and helpful.
Check in was uneventful. We were assigned room 22 with a view of the ocean. The room is large and has a porch overlooking the beach. The resort is not new and it appears a bit tired. The doors and windows had large gaps with the wood partially rotten in some area. In the bathroom, the window area showed signs of mildew. The most frustrating issue was the inexistent water pressure, making it impossible to take a cleansing shower after a swim. Both the tub and the sink faucets had just a trickle of water. We alerted the reception and, although we were promised a fix, no one ever showed up. Water is not drinkable in the room. The restaurant, situated in the beach, offers an acceptable menu, but the service is atrociously slow. Count on 45/60 minutes to be served. In spite of that, the servers are pleasant and friendly.
The value received for the price paid is unbalanced. Both the room and the restaurant are overpriced, but one needs to consider that in Costa Rica there is a 13% sales tax.
Overall, our family really enjoyed the stay at the Tropico Latino and we would certainly consider returning. This resort has the great potential to be an exceptional facility. It does need some improvements!

Our stay on Tropico Hotel was the best choice we could have hoped for, it completely made our trip. The facilities are well taken care of, all Covid protocols endorsed, walking-distance to the beach, beautiful views and sunsets. The place is secure and private, right in the middle of Playa del Carmen, so you have restaurants and shops nearby. Has everything you need for a relaxing and peaceful getaway, Spa, massage sessions, an excellent restaurant, pool and we were lucky enough to be there when a Yoga retreat was being held and participated in a meditation session (after receiving an invite from the staff), it's suffice to say it completed an already awesome experience. But the most important one and what made the difference for us was the staff, Evelyn, Francesca, Josue, Jefferson, Xiomara, Nadia just to name a few were more than accommodating, we celebrated a birthday there, had breakfast in the beach and were amazed at how elaborated and delicious the food was, the plans we had were complimented and even surprised by the teams welcoming vibe. They were always answering on time via phone and messages, this communication made our stay even easier. They seem hard working and honest, trying to get your stay to be the best one which helped us in feeling more comfortable there after all these times in-house due to Covid. This team feels like a family inviting you to their home, this adds a lot to the relaxing and positive energy atmosphere you breathe in Tropico Latino. This is the first hotel I would recommend here, definitively would come back to the glamping suite.

I attended a yoga retreat with a group of friends in Febuary 2020. This hotel was simply paradise!
First, the landscaping is beautiful. They have incorporated old with new. There are so many gorgeous trees and plants which encourages native wildlife. There was a family of spider monkeys that lives in a tree outside of my room! Many species of birds, lizards and iguanas were around as well. The hotel is compromised of several small bungalow style buildings. Each of the rooms has a huge covered porch. There were so many options for relaxing outside including hammocks, lounge chairs and adarondck chairs. The rooms are minimally and simply furnished. It was clean and had everything I needed. The grounds, beach and landscaping were always clean.

The hotel's commitment to sustainability was a huge win for me. Their shower products are compostable, they use resources only as needed and use natural options for pest repellants.

The food was some of the best I've ever had at a hotel. It was fresh and perfectly prepared. I appreciated the variety and the changing options every day. I felt I was able to experience local cuisine through the chef''s selections but there was enough variety for even the pickiest eaters.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the staff. They were wonderful! After a few days, they knew each of our names. They were friendly, sincere and helpful. They were prompt and delivered everything they promised. They helped us plan excursions and gave great advice about the local area.

I felt that the hotel and staff did everything they could to support our retreat experience. They helped us become immersed with the culture and have a serene and relaxing retreat. If you are looking for simplicity, culture and relaxation this is the place to be. I will definitely return to Hotel Tropico Latino!

We stayed here for a week split in 2 different rooms. The beach setting is unrivalled, and the gardens and restaurant are surrounded by mature palms and trees.
You can here the roar of the crashing waves from any room which just reminds you all the time that you are beside the Pacific Ocean.
The rooms are pretty basic in that they don’t have coffee making facilities, but they are comfortable enough.
I felt the Shambala restaurant which is part of the hotel could be a lot better and, other than breakfast we tended to eat elsewhere in the town.
The setting is excellent but somehow the food and the service don’t quite match up and if they did, this would be a 5* choice.
Still the beach is just an unspoilt joy!

I actually don't have enough words to appropriately thank Hotel Tropico for hosting & supporting our beautiful yoga retreat.

The hotel itself is beautiful and located directly in front of the ocean! We dined alfresco for each of our phenomenal meals each day. From amazing fresh smoothies to unique and delicious five star cuisine -each of our 28 women felt so well nourished and supported at every sitting,

The rooms are clean and quaint and have everything one needs, including air conditioning and built in soap, shampoo & conditioner bottles to make packing lighter. Each has a wonderful porch and Hammock for chill time extraordinaire.

The spa was another dreamy space with open air rooms allowing for the sweet sounds of the waves to lull you into bliss while experiencing amazing therapist/ all of the spas ingredients are prepared fresh and are all natural.

The yoga deck was a dream come true as a teacher- again, open air. Directing my students to gaze toward the ocean or fixate on the sound of the waves was truly magical.

Lastly, the owners, managers & staff. Top notch all the way! Almost feels rude giving them titles as they made us all feel like extended family members being welcomed into their homes.

I will always hold a special place in my heart for this little slice of paradise and for the remarkable people who guided our experience with such care.

Roberto, Mechi, Maria, Marco, Josue, Olam, Juan Carlos, Alex, Nadia, Phina, Daniel, and all the others who I'm forgetting- thank you for the blessing that is Hotel Tropico!
Peace & Love, Aho

This place is a piece of heaven on earth. The location is the best, right by the beach, with direct beach access, the food is delicious. My favorite moments were breakfast at the beach, chilling in a hammock listening to the sound of waves. Rooms were good, location was excellent and staff was extremely friendly. If you're looking for fancy luxury rooms, this is not the place, in this place the luxury is the nature and the experience itself. Highly recommended. They say santa teresa is the new tulum. This place definitely is. I think we got lucky in finding the best spot in the entire beach.

I am in love with Santa Teresa since my first time there 5 years ago. Since then Ive always visited Tropico Latino but as it was always sold out I only used the spa, for massage, mani and pedicure, took great yoga classes in their two beautiful yoga beachfront rooms, spent time at the hammocks by the ocean and ate delicious food at the restaurant and bar. This year I am was luckier and spent my bday week in a beautiful room with ocean view, balcony with hammock and a jacuzzi with a friend. After my friend left I transfered to the closest cabin by the beach for 10 amazing and memorable days. The owners and staff are wonderful people always super friendly and helpful. Stay there if you are as lucky as I was to get a room, I am sure you wont regret or forget! Sunsets in Santa Teresa are a kind of a prayer, everyone sits by the ocean to watch and their location could not be better for that!
Pura Vida!!🌺🦎🌴🐚🔥🌈 🌅

After driving to what feels like the end of the Earth, my partner and I came to Hotel Tropico Latino tucked away in the center of town. We were greeted by the Spirit of the Hotel, Evelyn, who checked us into Room 16- one of their Junior Suites with a peaceful private patio overlooking the Pacific. The hotel's on-site restaurant, aptly named Shambala, served us 5 Star dinners and breakfast with locally sourced ingredients and unprecedented care in preparation. Maria, Jennifer and everyone on staff immediately becomes a close friend ready to support you when you need help and facilitate a tranquil and enriching stay. A visit to Santa Teresa is replete when staying with the fine people of Hotel Tropico Latino. We will recommend to any listening ear and will be back in the near future to forge more memories on the shores of the Nicoya Peninsula. Pura Vida!

I stayed in cabana #4 with my husband and loved it. The room is rustic chic and has everything you need to be comfortable: spacious room, 2 queen beds, air condition, porch, etc. It's a short walk on a path to the beach, pool, spa and everything the hotel offers. It is also close to the good things in Playa Carmen so you can literally walk to a different restaurant every night. But you can also stay and eat on the beach at the hotel restaurant where the food did not disappoint. I had the most delicious grilled squid there. I would definitely go back and stay there again!

There are beginner surfers immediately in front of Tropic Latino, but there is no surf board rental and no lessons. You need to walk, maybe less than 1/2 mile to get lessons. You could always hire a private instructor to meet you on the beach nearby.

Honestly I am not sure because we fly into San Jose because we live in south florida and flights there are cheap. Then we take Nature Air into Tambpr then it's like 30 40 minutes by car. I will say this if you are travelling in rainy season know that the roads wash out and if that happens you can only get in and out by motorcycle. It's a GREAT town ... go!
