We had the special opportunity to spend a week in one of the Villas at the Fairmont Kea Lani and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. The two-story, three bedroom villa was elegantly designed with enough Hawaiian influence and flair to give it a real sense of place without being overdone. Furnishings and decor were of very high quality and the little touches like the coffee press, Nespresso pods and fresh banana bread were delightful. Housekeeping was excellent and the villa was always kept immaculate. Service at the concierge desk (led by Dee--a wonderful member of Les Clefs d'Or) was friendly and helpful and the door staff were exceptionally engaging and helpful, especially in arranging the house car to take us around the resorts and restaurants in Wailea. Not traveling with children, I was a bit worried that the resort may be too "family friendly" for my liking, but the tranquility pool (along with our private villa pool) gave us plenty of quiet space to relax. The newly renovated lobby and bar are amazingly elegant and give the resort a more upscale and refined feeling than the showier resort next door. The Fairmont Kea Lani offers a magical experience while being friendly and authentic.

We just returned from a 6 day trip to Maui and our first time staying at the Fairmont. I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel - the main draw in staying there was the suites, which came in handy as we were traveling as a group of 5 adults and 2 toddlers. We had 3 suites total, all in a row, and they were perfect for our needs. The Fairmont provided a crib, diaper genie, baby toiletries, and moved furniture out of the room for us to better fit everything. The room was promptly cleaned each morning when we left and turndown service was always delivered while we were at an early dinner. We also appreciated the baby pool, the breakfast buffet (which was delicious but very overpriced), and ate at the small market downstairs several times. It was an extremely family friendly hotel with a calm, un-chaotic vibe which we appreciated. Overall I was very pleased and will absolutely return on our next trip!

I'm really not sure how to rate this, but gave 5 stars. The hotel and staff were all wonderful. The breakfast buffet was great! During our stay it even included exotic fruits like rambutans and carambolas. Our room was much bigger than I expected with plenty of closets and with a large bathroom (2 sinks, Roman tub, large shower - toilet closet). The bed was comfortable and included high end amenities like robes (no slippers), loofah, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. Our lanai was spacious and comfortable overlooking a quiet part of the garden. The resort fee included a gym (with a couple of Peloton bikes) and fitness classes. The instructors were all very qualified and we enjoyed the classes. We thoroughly enjoyed the canoe paddle experience. The cocktail bar offers live music and sunset views.
Our room was spotless. I wiped down surfaces with an antiseptic wipe and there was not a spec of dust on the cloth! The rooms, gym, and spa are all air conditioned. The rest of the hotel is open air, including the hallways, so we weren't surprised when we saw one small bug by the sink once; however, the day we were leaving, I noticed another one on the counter of our minibar. Normally, I'm very freaked out about bugs, but overall everything was very clean and comfortable. I would stay here again.

My husband and I, along with our three children have visited this resort four times since its opening - our most recent visit included our children, spouses and six grandchildren ages 2-9. As a group of fourteen it was a bit challenging arranging accommodations, travel and activities. We had some criteria in mind including four ground level poolside rooms adjacent to each other, a luau, a snorkel outing and dinner reservations at local restaurants.
I started conversations with reservations about nine months before our planned stay in January 2020…Brittney was very helpful and although she couldn’t guarantee room location and proximity she dutifully noted all my requests and assured me they would try to accommodate. When we arrived our rooms were exactly as requested, ground level/poolside, all in a row so we could visit on each others patios and parents could be close to both their room and pool. It couldn’t have been more perfect – and our ocean view was also incredible!
Malia(concierge) was friendly and efficient scheduling the Andaz Luau (an absolutely magical night), snorkeling with Alii Nui (couldn’t have been better), all dinner reservations, the Outrigger canoe experience (also a must do), babysitting services; groceries delivered and cribs in two of the rooms. All of the arrangements were made before the trip and itinerary was constantly updated and emailed so everyone was aware of activities and times. Her communication and attention to detail, was amazing!
Highlights of the trip besides those already mentioned….. Torch lighting ceremony with all the grandchildren following the very entertaining torch lighter around the entire resort! The family pool with its upper and lower locations including the slide, (a hit with both young and old), in pool basketball and rental of the dive scooter, first time scuba diving in the pool and ocean by our 8 and 9 year old grandsons, sand castles and boogie boarding at the beach and, of course, afternoon cocktails at the upper pool with the specialty drink and beer of the day!
My husband and I have been to most of the Hawaiian Islands and visited many hotels including Four Seasons Hualalai (another highlight), Fairmont Orchid, Mani Lani, Hapuna Prince, Grand Hyatt Kauai and have enjoyed attributes of all, but Kea Lani is one we definitely will return to because of the following: Large suites with oversize bathrooms and lanais Beautiful grounds and family friendly pools Beautiful, swimmable beach with kayaks and SUP’s available to rent Friendly, efficient staff On site courtesy vehicles Ocean view walk with variety of hotels and restaurants Brand new fitness center
Our family vacation at the Kea Lani left us with memories that will last a lifetime, Thank-you!

The staff is wonderful. The best part of the hotel are the people.
I am disappointed by the resort fees, having to pay for a cabana by the pool, expensive food prices, inability to reserve a specific floor when making a reservation AND the fact that they don't give a 2 hour late check out.
The Four Seasons has plenty of cabanas and poolside service for free. Their food is far superior at half the price. They also give free bottled water in the room everyday!
Other improvements need to be made to make this hotel a luxury hotel. The rooms with two beds are full size, not queen. Why?
The grounds are lovely, but they have a bird issue. Odd that the Four Seasons next door does not have this issue.
This isn't meant to be a bad review. This establishment is nice, and you will have a wonderful time. You'll pay for it $$, and be told no to some important requests, but it's Maui, so enjoy the island.
If I could tell management anything it would be this. If we make a request after paying thousands of dollars to stay at your hotel, please know the request is important to us. Saying sorry after we get home or inviting us back doesn't help. Things need to be done at the time of our visit. It's our vacation, and we spent our $ money with you. Please accommodate our request for a specific floor, don't charge for cabanas...buy more! Shade around the pool is important. The pool is an important part of our vacation. It should be a wonderful experience, and you should have more chairs. Come on!

We booked three nights at the Fairmont Kea Lani and enjoyed our time there.
The rooms are spacious and were larger than I was expecting. The property is well-maintained and absolutely beautiful. While there were a lot of families and children, the adults only pool is a great option if you want less noise and to be outside of the cannonball splash zone. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but the breakfast buffet was expansive with lots of great options. The location worked out well for us and we did walk to/from the nearby shopping and restaurants (about a 25 minute walk). The fitness center was well equipped but did get busy at times so you had to be flexible on which equipment you used during peak time.
There are a few areas to improve. The room decor is a bit dated. The design and decor of this hotel is not modern, clean lines - It is a bit dated and traditional. Because if it’s age, expect some stains on the rugs and furniture. Our room defiantly has seen some spills and wear and tear. One area for improvement is the WiFi. I did have a few work projects to attend to while out of the office and the WiFi service was intermittent, and when I could connect, extremely slow. Others have noted this and believe the reviews. If you need to work or coke cut to WiFi, head to the coffee shop down the road and use their WiFi. It will be a more productive use of your time. Again, little items in an otherwise fantastic property.

We rented a 2 bedroom villa with kitchen and had prearranged a 4PM checkout (aka paid a premium) since we were catching a red-eye. Upon checking in, Luz quickly asked if we can please vacate our room at 12PM and she will give us a hospitality room. No offer of an additional property credit, discount on our room rate - just we can keep the room until we need to leave which was 4PM (lol). We declined. Between noon and 4PM on our checkout day, housekeeping came in 3 times to see if we were gone and the pool man asked my kids to get out of the plunge pool as he had to service it to get it ready for the next guests. They must have overbooked the villa and their mistake quickly became our problem. Mahalo Farimont!

We stayed at Fairmont Kea Lani during Thanksgiving Week. This was our first resort stay since 2019 and we really enjoyed the beach, pool, room service and overall comfort and beauty of the resort. The staff was amazing! I wish we could have stayed 10 days instead of 7, just as we were really relaxing it was time to leave.
I think the room decor looks fresh, everything is palm themed. They offer rose scented Le Labo products and I love the showers and double sinks with a long ledge for our toiletries. The pull out sofas seem comfortable enough for our 10 and 8 year old.
Polo Beach is gorgeous. The sand is like powder and waves were calm most of the week for snorkeling however we did get some swells the last few days perfect for boogie boarding. I think the resort could do more to offer buckets and shovels to borrow. Each visit we buy 3 boogie boards and sandpails and shovels. Seems extremely wasteful for a beautiful resource such as Hawaii to have to manage plastic after we leave. They used to have signs discouraging people from saving chairs, they seem to be gone.
The buffet is one of my favorite parts of the stay. The food quality is still outstanding. They aren't offering an omelet bar anymore due to COVID. When we first arrived, we were escorted by a staff member who picked up tons and placed food directly onto our plates. A little weird, but they were very patient and friendly. $50 per adult and half price for our kids under 12. They un-officially close the buffet area at 11:15 so we arrived each day at 10:30 and treated it like brunch. By the end of the week they allowed guests to wear a plastic glove and self serve. If you want bagel or toast you order from your server.
For some reason we thought the $18 cocktails were underwhelming at the pool and Ko. We drank mostly Maui beer. The kids' food at the pool was really good, our kids loved the chicken tenders and fries. Sad news, there was no shave ice vendor! I miss afternoon shave ice by the pool.
We had a problem with room assignment the night we arrived. Our family of 4 was assigned a wheelchair accessible room, without a separate enclosure for the toilet. We are returning customers and we booked 4 months in advance so I had no reason to expect anything less than the usual standard ocean view suite. By mid-afternoon the next day they moved us to a proper oceanview room with the traditional bathroom setup. This burned our first night and first half day. If I stay at Kea Lani again I will probably call in advance to confirm the room...
We look forward to staying again!

Family of 4 chose Fairmont to celebrate a special occasion for 5 nights at the beginning of May. Our check in process was a little cold for Hawaii standards but very smooth nonetheless yet and the room was ready even though we arrived a few hours before the 4pm check in time. Unfortunately there was no welcome baskets or anything for the children like some neighboring five star resorts go out of their way to provide and we had to call to get some pillows and blankets for the “pullout” sofabed. The room was spacious with a large balcony. The bathroom is modern and nice with an amazing open air shower and large tub and HUGE mirror. The rest of the room is a little dated. The carpets and curtains look old as does the furniture. No USB plugs anywhere in the room outside of one on the alarm clock that can’t charge a modern iPhone. Bed was comfortable. The gym is also very nice, but you may not need to go there if you have to open your sofabed up. It’s a workout and by far the hardest pullout anything I have ever dealt with. I would save your chins and ask them to open it for you We loved the family pool and the staff there. Water slide is a lot of fun and they allow kids 31” and up so even my 3 year old could go. Food at the hotel is good, but we had some issues. Breakfast is buffet but still good. Ko was great, when you eat at the restaurant. However when we got Ko to Go they first forgot to put our order in and caused us to miss our sunset while we sat in the back of the restaurant waiting for our to go order and then gave us the wrong food once they gave it to us 40 minutes later. Also, no lobby bar or bites. Not sure why, one concierge said it was because of remodeling and the front desk said it was because of low occupancy (didn’t seem that low) but keep that in mind if your coming. Don’t think the spa was open during our stay. Called a few times, no answer. So confirm that as well. Overall it was a great stay. But given the dated decor and lack of service and services, I struggle to put this hotel in the same class as the other 5 stars I’ve visited on the island (4 Seasons and Montage)

I was struggling with a 4.5 rating, but I’m going to go with a 5.
Family of 4 experienced travelers - out first time in Maui though. We booked the fairmont 6 months in advance and leading up to the trip we’re familiar with all the machinations of traveling to the state of hawaii.
The hotel is actually great. The room we got was the suite with the ocean view (and what a view it is!) and the room was ideal for a family of 4 with 2 older kids. Both the living area and the bedroom had privacy and the bathroom was laid out in a way where there was privacy between the toilet and the shower area. And the 850+ sq ft of space did not hurt.
Given we’re from the east coast we were up early pretty much every morning and spent the time watching the glorious sky and sunrise from the balcony, which is a stellar treat.
The property is wonderful. The pool areas were crowded but frankly we made the most of it and the staff was accommodating too - felt bad for them with the large crowds so to speak certain areas of the day. The beach is the right size and we had several days where we managed a few hours of ocean swimming.
Apart from the buffet breakfast (which is a long and drawn out process given the covid situation where the staff have to actually serve you), makana cafe and ama by the pool, we didn’t eat in the other restaurants since we were always out and about and managed our meals in the different towns we were in - paia, kalapani, lahania etc.
The mrs and I also used the gym (and frankly some days we worked out in the open spaces there’s many kind you) and it never felt crowded.
The one thing I have to say is I always felt that the property had a mildly therapeutic feel to it. We loved our vacation and when we return to Maui, the fairmont is it.

I agree with everything Betty U said in her answer. The next time we go to this island, we will choose the Four Seasons over the Fairmont. Our experience at the Fairmont was below expectations. The breakfast buffet, as was the lack of service, was overpriced for what you received. We ate dinner at the upper-level bar, and the service was slow, and not fully educated on their food and beverage choices (wine).

I have not tried the roll away but I have yet, in my 81 years, to find a roll away that was comfortable as a real bed. Put the kids in it and don't ask. They are lucky to be in paradise.
