My husband surprised me by booking a stay at The Bayview Hotel for our 22nd anniversary in September 2020. After a wonderful day exploring Acadia National Park, a sunset cruise on the schooner Margaret Todd, and a run to get takeout pizza (this was during the pandemic), we settled into our comfortable room at Bayview. The bathtub was ideal for a soothing soak before nestling into the cozy bed. At sunrise, I went out on the balcony overlooking the bay to take in the beautiful scenery. Everything was incredibly peaceful and calm. Before checking out, we took our time watching 2 seals fishing nearby. Our breakfast was packaged and ready for pickup in the lobby (again, this was during the pandemic) in a lovely bag featuring the hotel logo. The assorted pastries, granola and yogurt, and juice got us off to a refreshing start for the next day's fun. The hotel staff paid careful attention to the necessary precautions to keep their guests healthy. I recommend this hotel because of its location, the pleasant rooms, and the friendly staff. We experienced grace and hospitality throughout our stay. The hotel is an ideal base camp for Acadia adventures. The Bayview Hotel is on my bucket list for future trips to Maine after the world emerges from the pandemic, when we are able to see each other smile again.

The Bayview was probably the most peaceful hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life. My husband, myself and my daughter got an awesome deal on an Ocean Queen room On Trip Advisor. The hotel is tucked away off the road, feels special as you drive up. The lobby and common areas are newly renovated along with the rest of the hotel. I will say that you definitely pay for the view, which is stunning. Our room was clean and basic. It’s kind of in the basement or “lower level” with dehumidifiers in the hallway to keep away dampness I’d assume. Room was comfortable and large, carpet new and plush but again very basic. Balcony was large and again view to die for. I wouldn’t call rooms luxurious but still the stay felt very special. The staff or possibly the owners were so welcoming and friendly and accommodating. They packed us a beautiful breakfast to take with us upon checkout due to Covid restrictions limiting the usual buffet breakfast and when we contemplated staying an extra night they offered us the same great deal we had gotten the night before. I would highly recommend this hotel if you want a secluded, beautiful, tranquil spot to stay while visiting beautiful Bar Harbor. It’s just close enough to town, but just far enough away!!

If you only read one sentence, read my headline :). The hotel was truly fantastic in almost all categories. Highlights include some of the more genuinely friendly and welcoming people working the property, they handled covid precautions very well (especially with the pivot from buffet breakfast to cute to-go breakfast bags), the harbor views (you really are just 75 ft from the waters edge), comfortable accommodations, big rooms, etc. The cons, the hotel clearly just went through a renovation and is working top to bottom, starting with the 3rd floor down to the 1st (according to what the woman at the front desk shared). The pictures online make all the rooms look exceptionally modern, which the lobby is, but the rooms are not. At least not OUR 1st floor room. As of September 2020, the rooms on the 1st floor have furniture and a bathroom 10+ years old. It’s not a deal breaker, but the pictures online are deceiving. I hope the owner does the right thing and updates them because they are doing themselves a disservice by misleading their guests and being greeted with confused and disappointed travelers. I would have chosen a different room on a higher floor had I known. Instead I chose the most affordable room (which at $350 is still a premium) because I was lead to believe the only difference between the room types is the floor level - and imagine that the view from the 1st to 2nd is negligible.... anyways I shared my feedback with the manager and was offered a discounted stay which I greatly appreciated. I cannot give this 5 stars because this was not as described. Other FYI you are a mile to downtown bar harbor. Super easy (3 min) drive in and out and it’s nice to be slightly removed from the downtown but if you want to walk out of your room to dinner downtown, know that you’re a drive away.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights earlier this month on a romantic tour de Maine trip. We opted for the “economy” version of the bay view rooms, an island king I believe (the rooms below the lobby floor). While the view and location directly on the bay were lovely, we did expect a bit more at $300/night. The room was quite spacious but felt oddly lacking in furniture, leaving kind of an empty feeling in the space. The super simple chairs on such a large balcony felt like a waste, especially given how much we would have liked to be comfortably outside. The rooms clearly haven’t had much of an update, and the bathroom did seem outdated. With a couch or some additional comforts, we would have felt much cozier and less like we were staying in a passerby motel.

The stay was fine and people were friendly, but I don’t know that I’d stay again based on what we were hoping for.

this was the perfect getaway for us during Covid, and we felt lucky when Maine lifted the quarantine restrictions on New Jersey. In fact, it was noticeable that all hotels in the area seemed to have vacancies in what I assume is the height of their season, but we never felt unsafe, and both the hotel and the surrounding restaurants were very focussed on safety. We had two adjoining rooms for my wife and I and our 22 year old twins, and the view from our terrace was as spectacular as advertised. In fact, one night we decided to take in dinner, as the atmosphere on our terrace trumped that of any restaurant! We opted for no daily maid service, but the staff provided fresh towels daily. Breakfast was a really nice treat, the best homemade granola I've ever had. The staff, in general, was extremely helpful, whether we had questions on Acadia, restaurants, or selling us a great bottle of wine for our dinner in our room. Finally, the location was perfect - either a long walk or short drive to town, and extremely convenient to Acadia, while maintaining that spectacular view on the water. Would highly recommend to anyone.

My husband and I recently stayed in the Bayview Hotel for our honeymoon and were very disappointed. Before talking about the negative aspects of our stay, I should first note that Matt, the gentleman who manned the front desk for the majority of our stay, was very kind and professional and is a huge asset to the property. He even provided us with a bottle of champagne as he knew it was our honeymoon. Unfortunately, the rest of the property did not live up to this. The property recently changed hands and the new owner completed a "renovation." My mother and sister are interior designers so I have been around this stuff my entire life. This property was updated in the cheapest way possible and much to its detriment. Any charm it may have had in the past was lost. The hallways have literal astroturf that is already wearing down, the rooms have new bed frames, mirrors, chairs and lamps, but still have some of the older furniture and accessories from before the half renovation which makes for a highly imbalanced interior design effect that is off-putting. The bathroom still has particle board ceilings that were literally falling apart. Our bedroom had a large stain over the carpet that was incredibly unsightly. There was an old hutch that I assume used to hold a mini fridge that remained in the room and the mini fridge was instead moved into the old armoire. Very strange choice. There were no amenities at all (with the exception of an old ice machine in the hallway that looked like it was from the 1970s), including no robes, no slippers, nada. The hotel does have a very nice location on the bay and the views are beautiful. However, there are several other waterfront hotels that are far less expensive. We booked the Bayview because we were looking for a luxurious property for our honeymoon. The room we booked was even billed as their "most luxurious room." If the room had been less expensive and the pictures on the website weren't, based on our room, quite misleading, I would have taken no issue with the property. However, to charge >$500 a night for the room we got was really a rip off. We stayed in 4 properties over the course of our honeymoon and this was the only property we werent thrilled with. This was also the second most expensive hotel we booked despite all hotels being in prime vacation locations. My husband is pretty low key and not as selective as I can be but he was also really disappointed. In fact, he said this hotel would be the only thing he would change about our trip. Not the best. Additionally, when we checked in, we were asked if we wanted maid service given COVID. I requested that we have towels only and said we would let them know if we changed our mind. This was apparently miscommunicated (I'm sure an honest mistake) and we came home to a maid leaving our room which was a little shock. Again as this was likely a mistake, so no big deal, except she had her mask off and hanging around one ear. Did not inspire a lot of confidence and made me feel pretty uncomfortable.

We planned a last minute trip to Maine and The Bayview was so lovely and accommodating! We arrived early and our room was ready and they gave us the cutest welcome gift for our dog - including a bandana and homemade treats! they have a free shuttle service in the afternoon/evenings from the hotel to downtown and the driver has great restaurant recommendations and knowledge of the area that was super helpful. We ended up adding an additional night and the staff was so great about moving us to another room to accommodate the last minute switch. The rooms/bathrooms are very clean and the beds are SO comfortable. The location is about a 15 minute walk to downtown but we actually loved that we weren't in the hustle and bustle of the main drag. We will be back in the summer! highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful escape

I arrived a bit late in the evening and so the first three hotels that I tried were already closed for the night or full. I was lucky that there was one room left at The Bayview. It was more than I was looking to spend but i'm glad that I ended up staying here.

The hotel is small and has a calm atmosphere. It is set back far from the road and the rooms all face the water (every room has a balcony) and so it is quiet and relaxing. The location is ideal because it is less than a five minute drive to town or Acadia. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I look forward to staying here again.

Our room was over $600 per night, counting fees. The toilet didn't work properly, unless you depressed the flush handle vigorously and kept it depressed until the bowl was completely empty. One of the two bedroom lamps kept turning off even when the switch was on, presumably because there was a short in the wire. There were very few wall plugs and no "smart device" plugs. Our room was near the laundry room on one side and some sort of employee break room/towel folding room on the other. Their laundry washer and/or dryer emitted a very loud, grinding siren like whine as it whirled. Employees would squat near the machines, showing their butt crack as they watched the operation of the machines. The supposedly clean room had a broken clothes hanger and a prior guest's room card key in the closet. The closet did not even have a door. The view was lovely, but completely NOT worth the expense. This hotel is cheating its guests. When we voiced our concerns to the front desk staff person, we were met with a shrug and not even an "I'm sorry." They know they are rooking travellers and they do not care.

The Bayview Hotel in Bar Harbor is an excellent hotel. We chose the Bayview as a base for our 7 day Acadia NP vacation. The hotel itself is small and privately tucked out of the way off the main road. All the rooms are ocean front and have private balconies to enjoy sunrises and sunsets. The staff is extremely friendly and I really appreciated everything the hotel does to make the guests feel comfortable. The hotel manager Matt was very helpful when making the reservation and during check in. In the era of Covid 19, a lot of the hotel's features were not available: dining room, shuttle, and swimming pool. I would say despite this the Bayview is still a great place to stay. I think what I enjoyed the most was the quite and peacefulness of the property. We could visit Bar Harbor which is less than a mile down the road or Acadia NP < 2 miles away, enjoy everything those places have to offer, and then return to our hotel and really feel like we are completely away from the crowds. Additionally the rooms are quite large and very comfortable. We stayed 6 nights in the 3rd floor Peak room. The room seem recently renovated and we found the room to be modern and well done. I honestly believe we enjoyed our stay visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia NP as much as we did because we knew after a long day of hiking or cycling we geniuningly looked forward returning to our hotel room.

Overall, I would recommend the Bayview and look forward to returning next year.
