We discovered this “little gem” and found our mini escape to be absolutely incredible. This Century home has been restored and every detail mastered by a designers dream. Beautiful beyond belief. Our room was lovely and comfortable. The gourmet breakfasts were over the top served by Priscilla and Ken with style, friendliness and above all humour. You stole our hearts as we sat on the deck looking over the gorgeous gardens! Tranquility. As the day ended, the highlight was sitting on the wraparound porch soaking up this piece of paradise. A must during your stay is a bike ride on the Rail Trail to Southampton. Very rewarding and fun, nice people along the way....especially farmer Mo.
A special thank you Priscilla and Ken for making our stay such an enjoyable and memorable one. We’ll be back.

We spent a very comfortable night in the McClung room. The century home is absolutely stunning and feels like home as soon as you walk In the front door. The grounds were very well manicured and brought a sense of peace and tranquility.
The hosts are very knowledgeable with the area in and around Port Elgin. They also made you feel like one of the family. Walking distance to the main town which was nice and a lot of historical buildings. Had an amazing breakfast on the back deck looking out at the beautiful gardens. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in Port Elgin this charming historical home is the place to be. Thanks again Priscilla and Ken for a wonderful experience.

My fiancée and I had the pleasure of staying at Priscilla and Ken's bed-and-breakfast last week for two nights. We stayed in the McClung room, which was cozy and nicely decorated, fitted with a comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was large with a double sink and jetted tub. The entire bed-and-breakfast itself was spotless. We had a chance to peek into the other two rooms as we were the only guest staying in b&b at that time, and they too were beautifully decorated and a good size.

Although the place is newly renovated, this bed-and-breakfast is full of character and charm. Every corner of this home has a story, which Priscilla is happy to share with her guests. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with plenty of sitting areas to relax and enjoy the outdoors. This bed-and-breakfast is also steps away from the main drag and only a few short blocks away from arguably the best fine dining restaurant in town, Andres.

Breakfast both mornings was healthy, delicious and quite filling! Our first began with a multi-fruit smoothie, followed by fresh fruits and a couple of slices of homemade banana bread. Then out came the homemade waffles with fresh raspberries, blueberries and sweetened whipped cream and of course, real maple syrup. Our second breakfast consisted of a different but it's just as tasty smoothie followed by berries, granola and yogurt with a couple of slices of cranberry nut bread.
The main course was a beautifully presented plate of bacon, scrambled eggs on toast and grilled cherry tomatoes and mushrooms.

Most importantly, I should mention that the hospitality during our stay was exceptional. My fiancée and I were interested in renting mountain bikes to explore the Bruce Trail. Although she didn't know of a nearby rental shop at the time when we first asked her, she was quick to ask around and find an answer for us within the hour. She directed us to the neighbouring town and sure enough, Martin's bicycle shop in Southampton rented a variety of good quality bikes. She also offered to make dinner reservations for us, and always made sure we felt comfortable and welcome.

To put this review into context, I have had the good fortune to stay at a number luxury hotels and accommodations, including various Fairmont and Four Seasons hotels around the world. Silken retreat undoubtedly delivers top quality and value for the nominal nightly rate charged. Needless to say, we will definitely be returning.

Just returned from a two-night stay at Silken Retreat. This place is perfection. From the feather-top bed to the Jacuzzi tub, this B&B has EVERY modern convenience you could ask for. And its charming as can be---as are the hosts (who also speak French). Rooms are quite private, each with (meticulously clean) ensuite bath. Décor is modern, elegant, and serene; it feels like my favourite spa. Spent time sitting on the covered porch, second floor balcony (watching fireworks!), and even in the garden under the trees. There are plenty of places to relax and put your feet up after a day at the beach. Free Wi-Fi, a Keurig coffee station, and a mini fridge are definite perks. Breakfast was top-notch. Had a smoothie, fresh fruit, home-made banana bread, yogurt, and granola, followed by eggs benedict. It was scrumptious! Very peaceful and comfortable with all the amenities of the best 5-star hotel. Highly recommended and will definitely return!

The house: renovated old charm with new amenities. The bed (we were in the King) was the most comfortable ever! Our hostess, Priscilla; charming, helpful, friendly and a great cook, the location; perfect, near the main street but quiet, close to the beach, breakfast was not only delicious but the presentation (fruit with chocolate sauce for breakfast? Mmm) was 5 star. Would we go again? In a heartbeat. You will love it!

Such a stunning building. After 5 years of renovations, they did absolute wonders with this house! Priscilla was telling us all about the various work they did, and how detailed the work was!
But enough about the architecture.
The rooms were amazing, the bed - one of the most comfortable I've slept on, and the bathrooms made me feel like I had my own private spa!
Priscilla made us amazing french toast for breakfast on the first day, with her own home-made raspberry sauce.
I really could gush for another page...but I think you get my drift.

My husband and I wanted a B&B in the Port Elgin area with charm and a sense of history but also the modern amenities we like. We found all that and more! The location is good as it's near the downtown area and not far from the shores of Lake Huron. The rooms are comfortable and the decor is soothing. Priscilla is a wonderful hostess - it's clear she loves the home and sharing it with her guests. She has added some unexpected extras that are sure to please - a coffee station with a Keurig, a computer and desk, Wi-Fi, TV, and comfy bathrobes. The gardens are gorgeous and there is a large front porch with lots of sitting areas for reading or chatting. We were particularly impressed with the breakfasts - tasty, generous, healthy, prepared with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. We are already looking forward to a return visit.

Priscilla and Ken were very kind and accommodating. The McClung room is clean and beautifully decorated (jacuzzi tub is a must). For breakfast we were served fresh fruit, greek yogurt, an omlette, and toast. Laying on the couch in the common room felt like you were at home. It was such a relaxing stay and wish that we could of stayed longer. Thanks for everything!

Wanted to get away for a night and have never been to a B & B. Heard many good things about Port Elgin and Silken Retreat. We had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful, clean and has everything you would ever want. Tea, coffee station, fridge, wine cooler and computer. Sitting on the porch, sipping on a glass of wine, swinging was the prelude to a wonderful nights sleep. Priscilla and Ken were more than accommodating, friendly and made us feel relaxed and at home. Can't wait to go back up.
