We stayed overnight at the Lighthouse in one of the keeper's houses and ate dinner and breakfast in the small restaurant on-site, which occupied the other keeper's house. The restaurant is very small and simple, but immaculate, with seating for people who come just for dinner as well as for people who are staying overnight. Darcy prepared an awesome dinner (seafood lasagna, caesar salad, strawberry rhubarb tart), one of the best meals we have ever eaten. Breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared as well. A family group had come up from town for a celebratory dinner when we were there. Everything is very casual and friendly. Wine beer and spirits are available. The "hotel" rooms are simple but atmospheric; perhaps a little updating is in order. There is a nice common room with books, coffee, tea, etc. Of course, the best feature is that you can see the Lighthouse from your room. Definitely recommend this experience, it will add a lot to your holiday!

I can't imagine a more divine setting, truly breathtaking. A little tricky to access, but so worth it. The accommodations were simple, extremely comfortable and welcoming. And the food -- wow. Dinner and breakfast were plentiful and delicious. Darcy's rhubarb crisp might be one of the best desserts I've ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot of dessert.)

Great breakfasts and dinners. Darcy is an exceptional concierge. Best bedsheets we’ve slept on since arriving in NS! And as a plus, Wild Caraway is at top of the road, as well as Irving. Suggest walking sticks for the access trail.

We had a marvelous stay, including dinner, at the Lighthouse this June. Unbelievable views, warmly welcoming host, comfortable accommodations, lovely dinner - we could ask for nothing more. If you're in Nova Scotia, do yourself a favor and make an effort to experience this unique place yourself.

OH MY GOD, if you're traveling anywhere near the northern shores of NS, I would heartily recommend a night or two here. The lighthouse is perched on the tip of a Cape and has increible views in all directions. The rooms (in the old lighthouse keeper's home) are nice and the restaurant serves freshly cooked, home style meals. Darcy, the owner, is right there with you and will provide all sorts of hiking and activity suggestions - or just sit and relax with a good book and enjoy the great view! If you can time right, make sure to be there for the beginning or the end of the high tide coming in and you can watch the Dory Rip appear and disappear before your very eyes - very cool!
Three caveats: To get to the lighthouse you have to down a pretty long, kinda steep road, so pack a nightbag to take with you (instead of all your stuff). Also, when we were there they did not yet have a liquor license so bring your own bevs of choice. Lastly, it is a working lighthouse, so you may get the foghorn whilst there (but isn't that part of the experience??!!)

We have been hoping to do sea kayaking in Advocate Harbour as we've heard lots of great things about the tour and Advocate, NS. However we would have to stay overnight to catch the early start to the tour. After numerous tries by e-mail and phone call to book accommodation at The Lighthouse of Cape d'Or, I still haven't gotten a response. Very disappointing.

We spent just one evening here in Room #1. It was the highlight of our 10 day Canada trip this year. To say that this place is magical and special is an understatement. It's at the end of a road, private, quiet, and totally original in look and feel.
The lighthouse is still operating (via the Canadian Coast Guard) and the lodging is in one of the old Light Keepers houses. There are 4 rooms and we picked #1 as it had the private bath IN the room and also a private entrance. All of the rooms and the central area were perfect.
We arrived around 7:30 and were greeted by Darcy. He immediately made us fell at home and welcome. He offered dinner as long as we weren't picky and did not get to choose it. We accepted and got a most excellent meal. Our meal included a great salad, fish and potatoes in a great presentation, and berry crumble pie. Very delicious. During dinner Darcy summoned all of the folks outside to watch the incredible sunset. We then all came back inside and finished dinner. We brought our own bottle of wine and Darcy did not mind. We even shared a glass of wine with him.
After dinner Darcy lit a campfire and we sat around as the full moon rose from the east directly in front of us. After a few hours of campfire we went to bed and got a great night's sleep. The room, bed, linens, and bathroom were spotless. The bed had a down comforter.
For breakfast we joined Darcy once again and he prepared french toast, fresh fruit, and coffee. It tasted delicious and was presented in a professional style with all the touches. Darcy is very good and understated.
The location alone makes this place special. The fact that Darcy is there makes is even better. And Darcy's cooking and warm smile makes this place truly one of a kind for us. And we have traveled all over the world and this place is world class if you like quiet, simple, clean, and unique.

We all had mixed feelings about staying overnight in this location. The Inn Keeper, Darcy, was a WONDERFUL COOK and went out of his way to make dinner for us, which was not in the plans. Dinner and Breakfast were delicious and Darcy was fun to talk with!
However, read on because the next bit of info we were not prepared for....
No one told us that we would have to park the car and walk down a steep and horribly rocky road just to get to the Lighthouse and Inn! No one told us that we were going to have to pull our suitcases down this road close to a 1/8 + mile!! No one told us that the rocks on the road would not just dirty our suitcases, but destroy the wheels!! Wish I would have known this because then I would have just taken my toiletries and pj's and I would've left all of our suitcases in the car! We had two kids who had their own suitcases--my husband had to carry the youngest childs suitcase, which was BRUTAL. At times, we had to carry the suitcases, too, because the "road" was just so rocky, the suitcases wouldn't even roll! This was NOT PLEASANT. Then, when we finally reached the Lighthouse Inn, we had to pull the suitcases further UP HILL!! As soon as I met the Inn Keeper, Darcy, I begged him to help us drive out suitcases back up the hill when we would leave the next day, which he graciously agreed to do.
Now, let's discuss the rooms~~This is clearly NOT a typical Bed & Breakfast. The building smelled of oldness and the closets smelled of Mothballs. Linens and Bedding were clean, but definitely NOT comfy and poorly matched. Beds and pillows were NOT comfortable. Decorations were SPARSE.
Now, let's discuss the FOG HORN on the Lighhouse that NO ONE told us about either! That thing is so loud and so disturbing and ANNOYING! It sounds off EVERY MINUTE starting somewhere around 5 am!! I could not wait to get out of there!
Oh, yes, the VIEWS ARE BEAUTIFUL, but if you are looking for comfort and have anyone (elderly,overweight, other health issues, or young children) that cannot make the hike down or back up the ROCKY ROAD, this is a DEFINITE PASS and KEEP GOING!!

A group of us stayed here in the autumn of 2003. It was, without a doubt, one of the best evenings I have spent in Nova Scotia. The hospitality was exceptional, and the food was magnificent. Plus the owner seemed to organize one of the most stunning sunsets I've ever seen. We finished the evening around a roaring campfire.
I have been tempted to keep quiet about our wonderful evening as I fear it will soon be over-run with others wanting to stay there. We will definitely be back.
As the previous reviewer mentioned, the walk down is a bit difficult. It is worth the effort.

My husband and I spent one night in the lighthouse guest house and loved it. The only room with private bath was already reserved, and we did not want to share a bath, so we were able to book the 2 rooms which shared a bath, and that gave us lots of space. We had a wonderful dinner and great breakfast and enjoyed the beautiful views in all directions, especially the sunset. The innkeeper brought our luggage down from the parking area in his truck, which was both gracious and helpful, and took us and our luggage back up the trail when we were ready to depart the following morning.

It was an Inn this past summer. Doubt that anybody is there in the winter. Try the email address. That is how I made our reservations. My guess is that nobody would be there in the winter and that the owners are on vacation until early summer.
There are more places to choose from in the Advocate Harbour area.
