Great 2 night stay - the guest house was comfortable, appreciated the kitchen facilities, the grounds are welcoming, and management are friendly and super accommodating.
The attention detail is refreshing (ie gazebo loungers and blankets).
Highly recommend!
A perfect launch point for the Veloroute Peninsule acadienne. 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴

We used Hotel Paulin in Caraquet as a base from which to visit Miscou Island and it turned out to be a great choice. Because of Covid personal interaction was limited but there was plenty of communications with the owner, Karen, and she was great, as was the property. Extremely clean and classy in a comfortable way. It was so relaxing to sit out on the veranda in the evening with a glass of wine and a book. The attached photo is a shot of the sunset from the back of the property overlooking the shore. As I titled this, we couldn't have asked for more.

Near historic place, in operation since 1891. Karen, the proprietor, is very responsive and accommodating. The hotel is historic, with nicely renovated rooms. It’s a small operation mostly run by the owner. Contactless check in and check out is an option, nice in Covid times. Good value and worth a stay in this area. Good for business and personal stays.

The hotel is a historic treasure full of history. We had a comfortable quirky room and breakfast was fresh and left for us in the fridge to have when we were ready.
The owner was warm and friendly and gave us recommendations for dinner that night.
Much better than some soulless hotel or motel in the town.

This place is such a treasure. Decorated beautifully, with antiques everywhere. Very clean. Hostess was thoughtful and accommodating. Great location. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Access to the beach. Hope to return in the future!

I will admit that this is the nicest place you will probably find in the area. It really is. But I had anticipated it to be the highlight of my trip and it was a big disappointment. I attribute most of that disappointment to the Mrs whose imported Toronto management style was quite a shock to us. It is fine to want one's family business to be profitable but hospitality is still key to a "family run inn". It was like staying with a tactless, cranky, selfish old auntie. I was so disappointed. As this is a family business that is all I will say. We will not go back but if you are in that area anyway, the building is beautiful and it's your best bet up in those parts of the province. The food was good. I just wish they were nicer, though we did seem them yucking it up with some people. The people who run the supermarket down the road were so nice, as was the cop who didn't give us that speeding ticket after all. So there are some nice people in New Brunswick which will make for some good memories.

I had booked this hotel through their website via e-mail. They actually made a mistake in the spelling of my name in their confirmation return e-mail, which could have resulted in cancelling my reservation...

This was the most expensive accomodation in my trip to the Maritime Provinces of Canada, but the reviews I had read seemed to make it worthwhile, and I was looking forward to a romantic stay in Caraquet.

I was surprised to see that the hotel was actually on the main street. The front lounge and restaurant therefore have a street view...

Rooms are up a very narrow staircase. Our room was an "ocean view" suite, very nice room altogether, much nicer than the rest of the hotel. The problem is the noise of the fans on the side of the hotel, which can be heard from all the rooms actually. When asked about the noise, the hotel owner metionned that it was the kitchen fans, that were switched off at night ; that means from 11 o'clock PM... Too bad if you want or need to sleep before that time! My mother's room was missing air-conditioning which should have been present given the price.

We thought it would be a good idea to have dinner at the hotel. Dinner conditions were sent to me by e-mail, but were so complicated as to make them unclear. It is necessary to order before noon the same day, which we did (choice of starters, main and dessert). We were told upon arrival to be at the table at 7:00. We actually had to wait until 8:30 to be told that some of the starters that we had selected half a day before (soup...) were no longer available! We had to wait until 9:00 to get the frist course (by then the children were no longer hungry!). Main course was served around 10:00... It was very elaborate, but way overcooked!
Overall, like the rest of the hotel, the restaurant tries to achieve a status that it cannot achieve. Hotel Paulin should try to stick to a lower standard which it could offer safely, instead of trying to offer a superior standard which it does not manage to offer. Of course, they would not be able to charge such outrageous prices... but they would get better reviews!

Breakfast was very nice but again very pricey.

My recommandation would be to go for alternative accomodation and dining in Caraquet, value for money cannot be worse elsewhere.

We stayed at Hotel Paul in September during an east coast tour. This place was by far the most dissapointing of the hotels or bed and breakfasts where we stayed. They messed up our reservations two times. The couple that own the place were consumed with quarreling with one another rather than attending ot us, the guests. They were literally yelling at one another at one point. A dinner of leftovers served in our room was decent but overpriced. The owner is a third generation owner of the property and exhibits the attitude of one who inherits his lot in life rather than someone who has a passion or interest in what they do. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is unenchanting as it is located nest to a neon lit motel.

In terms of value, this ranks at the bottom of the scale. After offering breakfast (with no menu) we had two eggs prepared over easy by the cleaning lady and later found a charge of $35 to our bill. The cost for our one night stay was $375 (two people). We were also charged gratuity charges for the food we ate in our room (which I carried up myself from the kitchen) as well as for breakfast which was served by the owner as we were the only guests.

What a wonderful hotel, and what a surprise! There didn't seem to be many places to chose from when we were planning our trip to Caraquet. We chose the Hôtel Paulin because it seemed the most interesting, but we weren't expecting much more than a pleasant bed and breakfast. I'm not much of a fan of b&bs, since they're usually a bit too much like staying at someone else's grandmother's house, so I braced myself.

We couldn't have been more wrong. Our suite was elegant and tastefully decorated, and we had a spectacular view of the Baie des Chaleurs. It was a wonderful combination of historical charm and up-to-date conveniences. There were beautiful antiques and high-speed internet access, as well as any amenities you would expect to find at a five-star hotel in New York or Montréal.

And the food! We were ready for muffins and cereal for breakfast and trying out the local restaurants for the other meals, but we were wrong again. One taste of Karen's cooking and you'll realize that nowhere else in Caraquet could possibly be this good. Karen is quite simply a master at preparing the local seafood, and our meals in the Hôtel Paulin's dining room easily rivalled some of our best meals in Paris or New York. Don't worry about ordering; just leave everything up to Karen.

Any complaints? None at all. The service in the dining room is certainly slower than in a city restaurant, but this is a family-run operation, and it was usually Gérard alone who was host, waiter, sommelier, front desk clerk and telephone operator. And the surroundings were so charming that no one was in a hurry.

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Paulin last week and are already looking forward to visiting again. Our hosts Gerard and Karen made us feel like family. We enjoyed a glass of wine while chatting with other guests in the lobby before feasting on a delicious Surf and Turf dinner and decadent desserts. Our room was gorgeous, ( We were in room 4) I really had the feeling we had stepped back in time, every detail of our antique furnished room was perfect. (We watched the Olympics on a very moderen large TV hidden within an antique cabinet!) The bathroom had double sinks and a large tub. The following morning we enjoyed a gourmet breakfast prepared by Gerard before going on a Mushroom Hunt with the hotel forager. ( I highly recommend this - we learned a lot and had a blast) It is obvious that this hotel is run by people who take a great deal of time thinking fo what will make their guests´experience with them extra special. ( the live piano music during dinner is quiet enough to talk normally, there were scented bath salts in an old fashioined glass container next to the giant tub, the hotel makes its own transparent jewel toned luxury soap which is carefully cut and wrapped in small tule bags and placed next to the sink and tub.) My husband and I were sad to leave the hotel as we continued on our Canadian adventure the next day.
I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation filled with warm people, beautiful surorundings and delicious food. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you Karen and Gerard!
