Stayed in the yurt for 4 nights. It’s well furnished and has everything you need for basic cooking etc.
The bathroom is one step outside the back door and is only for use of yurt guests. Decent shower and hot water. The toilet is a compost toilet and you have to stand on a narrow step to use it. The step is attached to the floor so it doesn’t wobble but could be an issue for anyone with balance or mobility issues.
There’s a lot of spiders, little bugs and moths around cause you are in the woods so if you don’t like that, there is a fly swatter. If you really don’t like it, you might want to take some spray. The instructions in the bathroom say the staff turn the compost in the toilet every day or 2 but no one did in the 4 days we were there. You can request it which is a good idea as it starts to smell. We saw the owner when we checked in and other than telling us how to turn on the heater, didn’t really offer any additional info. Had to go back to the office the next day to get the key he said was in the yurt. Other reviews mentioned canoe for use but they don’t have that anymore. The property is for sale and although it is beautiful I just got the feeling their heart isn’t in it anymore. We had to go hunting for where to put garbage. There was firewood and a fire pit and a bbq and we asked for a lighter from the office.
The wifi does not work inside the yurt. It is strongest on the deck and in the field outside. Adjust your entertainment choices bas d on this as you can’t rely on Netflix’s or anything wifi based. There are no games or DVD’s available that we could find.
It’s a really unique experience and I’d do it again but I would pack differently and assume that I have to provide all my own water toys etc as they no longer are available. About a 15 minute drive to Nakusp for grocery shopping.

My husband had to travel to Nakusp for work and decided to bring the family to Rock Island instead of staying in a hotel. Best decision he made! The fall/winter rates are comparable to a hotel room except you get sooo much more! We had our own cabin on the water with a fully equipped kitchen, bbq, cable, internet and an extra space that was ideal for our 15 month old to sleep in. They even provided a playpen!

Waking up to the gorgeous view every morning was such a treat. We enjoyed walking our daughter and dog down the road or along the beach. It's so quiet and serene.

This is a wonderful little resort well worth the visit!

We love the yurt! It is our first time staying at the Rock Island Resort and we hope to be back. The yurt provided us with an amazing home base. We could go to the hot springs if we wanted...or hang out at the yurt to relax, cook in, read at or just sit on the deck and look at the mountains and water. Oh and our boy liked to play his ocarina here.

The bed is extremely comfortable as is the futon. Our son wants a futon just like this for home.

Thank you so much to our hosts for making our vacation awesome! We even picked up a couple of Susan's pottery pieces. A+ accommodations for those

My ex bf first brought me up to Rock Island Resort to meet his family a few years ago. We brought our dogs and I'm pretty sure it was the highlight of my labs life. He spent the entire time in the lake swimming or standing in the lake waiting for us to watch him swim. The cabins were great and had awesome patio areas for bbq time. The cabins are far enough off the main road that you don't get any road noise and the secluded beach front property was perfect. We had fires on the nights we were there on the property and although I didn't go in the lake, we wished we would have brought our kayaks up.
We came back to Nakusp a second time for a wedding and booked the same cabin we liked it so much. If I ever find myself back in Nakusp I would definitely stay at Rock Island Resort.
We didn't actually stay in November 2014, but it won't let me pick any back dates. We actually stayed both times in the summer. I highly recommend it!

What an amazing getaway! Our 100lb lab cross traveling companion was in heaven with the roomy accommodation, leash optional rule and endless beach. Beautiful views, great price, complete serenity!

The full kitchen and bbq provided made it easy to prepare meals.

I stayed in cabin 1 for over a month for work. It was a great place to stay. Bill and Suzan were very friendly and helpful. The cabin has everything you need with a full kitchen, satellite and Internet. The place is dog friendly and right on the water. I would suggest any one to stay here, would be great for a family holiday.

Booking somewhere at a distance is always a bit risky. When it's a few days that's going to be the core of your family trip to Canada - a two-yearly return from the UK to visit relatives and remind ourselves why we love this country so much, then the pressure is really on.
Our initial contact with the Rock Island Resort over email and phone was great and Bill was very patient as we moved dates around, changed accommodation and asked loads of questions.
Travelling up to Nakusp was easy (from relatives in the Okanagan) and the location was everything we were hoping for. We took both of the spacious cabins overlooking the lake. There are plenty of outdoor seating areas, barbecues and a communal covered lodge with a long family table just by the water.
Bill & Sue provided a kayak for us to use and a floating dock to fish from. There are also some inflatables and other 'beach' paraphanalia which the younger folk in our group really enjoyed.
The cabins are well built, clean and modern and are placed in a spectacular location. Sitting on the foreshore with your breakfast, looking up and down the lake with bald eagles and ospreys above us, made this the special visit we had hoped it to be. There are probably many beautiful places in the Arrow Lakes but the welcome we received made this one special.

We stayed in the yurt for three nights. It had all that we could've wanted, and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was well equipped, with a full sized refrigerator, full sized gas stove (no microwave oven), and there were two plush bathrobes for us to use during our stay. The head of the comfy queen bed was underneath one of the two z
Windows, and there were two doors on the yurt, the front door going out on to a patio deck with furniture, and a view of the Arrow lake. We could walk right down to the lake for a swim ( the floor of the lake was grassy, and not hard on our feet). There was no air conditioner, but it cooled off at night and there was a fan to use. There was also a wood stove in the yurt. The yurt itself was a nice big size. The bathroom was in a separate little from on step outside the back door. It had a stall shower, (which was temperamental at times), as well as a compositing type toilet (a first for us).

This was an extremely private place to unwind, quiet and peaceful. It was a bit rustic, but it had everything we needed.
The town of Naksup was 10 miles up the road, and we were able to restock our groceries, buy gas for the car and do our laundry.

There is also a nice hike nearly at the end of the Nakusp Hot Springs road. It is called the Hot Springs Trail, 8 km long winding through a dense forest completely carpeted with moss. These were also a number of small streams and waterfalls along the route with little log bridges or boardwalks to walk on so that our feet wouldn't get wet.

I'd stay in the yurt gain in a heartbeat, and hope to do so in the future. And next time I stay there I will try hiking the trail up to Kimbol Lake.

I've travelled all over the world and now have another WOW place to recommend. The cabin was spacious, modern and well equipped. The kitchen and BBQ area have everything you need to enjoy your stay. But plan to spend most of your time on the resort grounds soaking in the views. The mountains surrounding the lake are stunning. Bill and Sue provide all the equipment needed to enjoy their little piece of heaven, in total comfort.
