Wonderful hospitality, great friendly hosts, beautiful rooms and excellent breakfasts. Avocado eggs and scones were just out of this world.
The town with all the murals and hanging baskets was just charming. Great place for a weekend get away with a friend or as a couple.

In June we spent two wonderful days in this stunning heritage home. Each room is decorated with such attention to detail. The breakfasts were delicious. Even before we came down to breakfast, coffee and tea were waiting for us in the upstair parlour near our bedroom. Their covered veranda was a great place to sit, read and relax. My husband and I highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

Stayed here for three nights this March and hated to leave! Everything here is first class! The hosts, Shelley and Robert, are charming and very friendly. They provide an atmosphere of quiet elegance that big hotels cannot match, from the very first moment you enter their beautiful Victorian home that is so tastefully appointed with their collection of antiques and travel memorabilia. The food.....oh my goodness....there are no words to describe the amazing 3 course breakfast Shelley served us (with Robert’s help on Saturday). Everything was homemade and served with their unique style. The beds, linens, and little extras are high quality as well as attractive and comfortable. Every room is spotlessly clean. We have already advised friends and family that if they are in the Edmonton area, they MUST stay here for a truly memorable experience!

Beautifully appointed rooms, exquisite breakfasts, gracious hosts and a peaceful environment make this Bed and Breakfast a must for your couples retreat. The hosts, Shelley and Robert, are accomplished in creating a beautiful space for relaxation. The King room, where we stayed, was spacious and welcoming. The soaker tub is esthetically pleasing, and the infrared sauna efficient. Highly recommend this as a place to explore if you're looking for a quaint getaway! They were able to accommodate gluten free needs for breakfast, and overall attentive without being intrusive.

We stayed at the Rare Gem for a little mini-moon after our wedding. We stayed in the king suite which has the most comfortable hotel bed we've ever slept on and a wonderful soaker tub, complete with fragrant bath salts! The hosts are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging and serve delicious breakfasts and evening snacks. The breakfasts are not your run of the mill eggs with bacon or oatmeal with fruit. The cook is very creative and utilizes seasonal ingredients. I highly recommend staying here and expect to return for a little weekend getaway in the future.

Decided to do a last minute overnight in Stony, just because we could. Thankfully Robert and Shelley were able to accommodate us in their beautiful home. It is a heritage home with many great features inside and out. We stayed in the queen room and it was both comfortable and very well appointed. We went out for the evening and when we got back in there were two little chocolates waiting for us. In the morning we had a serving tray of coffee with China and silver. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and I couldn't even finish it the portions were so generous. I am so glad we went there it truly is a Rare Gem and we will definitely be back. Shelley has a keen eye for beauty, artistry and warmth as was seen throughout the home and with the meal. Superb! (And very fairly priced for what you get). Next time we are going to stay in the king room :)

I am just writing this review now so that people who are thinking of staying here in the next few months will consider it even though we stayed here last December.
The hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us tips on things of particular interest to us as we are kind of nature, natural-type people. The first thing I noticed, was that it was a nice old-fashioned house that was decorated in a sort-of vintage style for the holidays. There was a tree in every room and chocolates by the bed, which was very nice as we were not able to spend Christmas at home that year but the owners made this a really cosy place for us. We had a beautiful dining room of our own on the second level that looked out onto the street. This is where we opened our stockings on Christmas morning and where our hosts brought us wine when we relaxed there in the evening. The breakfasts were made with home and locally-grown ingredients which you could tell from the fresh taste. Some items were a little too adventurous for me but it was fun to try new things. A lovely place!

We had an absolutely AMAZING experience for anniversary. The service, food and accommodation was beyond our wildest expectations. The three course breakfast was scrumptious and satisfying, each item was picked with great intention and with a lot of local ingredients! The king size room we stayed in was absolutely amazing, comfortable bedding, bath salts for the gigantic bath, and we even had a sauna in our room! We could not have asked for a better getaway!!

As always it is such a treat and a relaxing time spent at Rare Gem. Both Shelley and Robert are so gracious and accommodating. I so enjoyed the King room. It was a nice pleasant reprieve from a long couple of days. As always the hospitality and Shelley's breakfasts where amazing and so delicious. I will be back again.

I simply searched on line for a B&B in Stony Plain and found the Rare Gem for my 89+ year old Mom, adult children and me. It just made us feel good. You could't ask for anything better! We'll be talking about our stay for a long time. The hospitality was second to none. The house was a feast to our eyes and the food a delight to our stomachs. Highly recommended!
